Messina Vs Milan (Pre Game & Game Comments)

This is the first time i open a thread before a game, so hopefully milan can win this because we are already 8 points behind juve and we cant afford another slip up.So hopefully i can bring luck too milan and come back to milan with a comprehensive victory.

This Wednesday, Milan travel to Messina, as both squads try to get back on track after a turbulent weekend.

BACKGROUND
Messina must be very disappointed by their 3-2 loss at the hands of Roma at the Stadio Olimpico this past Sunday. The Giallorossi took a 2-0 lead into halftime on goals by Riccardo Zampagna and Alessandro Parisi, in the 11th and 31st minutes. The mood in the locker room must have been one of extreme confidence, but Azzurri idol Francesco Totti quickly brought them back to reality with a goal in the 55th. The Peter Pan-esque striker, Antonio Cassano, leveled the match just five minutes later. Brazilian midfielder Alessandro Mancini made the comeback complete with the match-winner in the 81st minute. Messina was sent home with a crushing defeat, but they now return to the Stadio Giovanni Celeste, which has been a fortress for them this season. Messina has only lost at home once all season, a 4-1 victory by Lecce, and that was way back in October. They do settle for draws either, having won six of their ten home fixtures.

Milan is in an absolute freefall at the moment. After scoring eight goals in their opening three matches of the year, the Rossoneri have gone down to two consecutive 1-0 losses. The former was an away loss at Livorno, with Corrado Colombo scoring the lone tally in the 28th minute. The latter, without a doubt one of the most shocking results in all of Italy this season, was to Bologna at the San Siro in Milan. Tomas Locatelli scored in the 26th minute, and Milan could not muster up enough in front of goal to achieve any type of favorable result. The Rossoneri now go on the road, where they have had trouble scoring goals all season.


TEAM NEWS For Messina, Portuguese midfielder Jose Mamede missed the match against Roma, and will most likely not be available to this fixture either. Riccardo Zampagna was not expected to play in the weekend match, but he ended up going to full ninety.

Milan will be missing several key figures. Clarence Seedorf is not available, and Filippo Inzaghi is out for another month with a fractured thumb. Talismanic striker Andriy Shevchenko sustained an injury on Sunday against Bologna, and he will miss two weeks.


PLAYERS TO WATCH
Marco Storari (Messina) - With Milan still dangerous despite the loss of Shevchenko, the Giallorossi goalkeeper will need to be on his best form to stop a hungry Rossoneri attack.

Kaka (Milan) - Since Milan will not be able to rely on the goals of Sheva, Kaka must provide the majority of scoring chances for a Rossoneri victory.

PREDICTION Milan are desperate for a win, but Messina will not be easily pushed aside on their home pitch. The Rossoneri must get three points from this fixture to somehow put the pressure back on Juventus at the top of the table, and they will do so.

So as i said before hopefully i will bring luck and milan defeat messina.

I personally still believe in the Scudetto, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't. Juve will eventually drop points, so it is up to Milan to take advantage when that happens. For now lets focus on ourselves....we can't drop any more points, February needs to be a 'perfect month' for us in order too reach the key month (March) within touch of Juve. Then there is always our game against them to discount 3 more points (or take over them).....but anyway, all these calculations are kind of worthless if we keep on dropping points...I expect nothing less than a victory from this match...and the next one..and the next one...and so on...we can do it and we will do it. Forza ragazzi!!

As for our lineup (considering Seedorf, Pippo, Simic and Sheva are not available), I would like to see Dida, Cafu, Nesta, Stam, San Paolo, Rino, Pirlo, Dhorasoo, Kaka, Rui Costa and Crespo.

I heared that Ancelotti is going to make some changes maybe Rui instead of Tomasson. I.e. we may return to he system that Berlusconi hates.

Exactly. Last October "invincible" Arsenal were considered champions already in England, within 3 months they are 10 points behind Chelsea

Juventus are grinding out results at the moment but sooner or later they will drop points, all Milan can do is put as much pressure on them as possible


This is a tough fixture and really is the sort of game for some of the team to prove their character and show that despite Juve's lead they are still up for the fight. Without Sheva the responsibility of winning the game for us falls to Crespo and JDT, hopefully they wont let us down

but seedorf is in the list of players for this match!

I don't have the time lately to discuss about Milan in detail, so I'll just say lets hope things improve now, starting with tomorrows game!

The league is still in reach, never give in until its too late!

hmm, guess who choosed to be the ref tomorrow? our good friend Bertini, yeah, the man we all remember for good mostly from the match of the season in Torino, the ****** that prevented from Milan to go up 1st place. hmmm, who do you think will ref the Juve match? you got that right, Messina... yes yes, the SOB that alienated Nesta seconds to finish in Livorno, the one that didn't whistled a clear penalty on Sheva and Crespo... I tell you, this just prove once and for all that Berlusconi is not mafiyoso, otherwise there should have been a contract on their heads long long ago!

Stam will open on the right instead of Cafu. Costa is back at the expense of a second striker! the line with Gattuso(Ambrosini), Pancaro(Serginho) and Seedorf(Dhorasoo) may change.

Well, I confess to not being as optimistic as you all seem to be, however, I will continue to wish that Milan wins every game we play......

Even if the scudetto race is over (IMO) I think we need to win our Serie A games, if for no other reason than to prevent Inter from overtaking us in the standings..now that would be an even worse blow than losing the scudetto to Juve, as everyone knows that Juve would have won not by excellent performances, but by dubious ref decisions.

We also need a return to form, so as to build confidence for the most important trophy, that being the UCL title. In this shape, Man U would walk all over us...so if for nothing else, we need to win this game, so the players will have the self-belief that it takes to win the big matches.

Milan should win this game, especially since Rui will be playing alongside Kaka, and if Berlu hates this formation, tell him to take a chill pill, as the results at this point, are more important than flashy football.
