For completions sake-
The Nerazzurri have explained their decision not to appeal against UEFA’s order to play their next four European ties behind closed doors. “I have known this institution for many years and we accept their decision,” noted President Giacinto Facchetti. “We will not lodge an appeal because we have great respect for UEFA and, even if it is a sentence that will cost us, we will accept it.” Many expected the San Siro side to be subjected to a less lenient punishment, including a ban from playing in Europe altogether, following the crowd violence that prompted the Champions’ League derby with Milan to be abandoned. Yet Inter, and in particular Coach Roberto Mancini, were very vocal in their insistence that the four-match ban on having fans present was “an exaggeration.” It is hoped that the side can now move on and their chances of qualifying for the next edition of the Champions’ League were massively boosted by yesterday’s 1-0 win away to Juventus. “We must not make the same mistake we always do of becoming too elated by a result and resting on our laurels,” warned President Facchetti. “This is just a partial victory and I will only be happy when we achieve something concrete at the end of it. These wins show us that we have the potential to do even better and learn from our mistakes so that we don’t make them again next year.” |
