Isn't the Golden shoe the award that is given to the top scorer in Europe? It used to be like that. I cannoT understand that much Italian; but in that article about this Golden shoe, something different is written I guess?

Andriy Schevchenko from AC Milan, nearly 29 years old, is the Golden Foot 2005 winner, the award promoted by World Champions Club and La Gazzetta dello Sport. Shevchenko has scored only a few votes more than Paolo Maldini, his team mate. The Portuguese Luis Figo got the third position, closed to the winner too. On the contrary, the seven other nominees (Beckham, Crespo, Kahn, Romario, Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy and Zidane) were much far away.

From 7:00 p.m. today, Andriy Shevchenko's footprint is shining besides the ones of other very famous footballer (George Best, Francisco Gento, Luigi Riva, Roberto Rivellino and George Weah), so great that the 2005 Golden Foot winner felt embarrassed at first: "I feel touched, it was quite a stress to see football legends besides me. I shook their hands with the shyness of a kid".

Golden Foot

The Golden Foot award is an international award only for at least 29-year-old football players, who stand out for their sport results (both as single players and with their team), for their personality and for the esteem of the public and football experts. The winner is chosen out of a ten nominees list decided by a jury consisting of the Golden Foot media partners representatives and of the fans from all over the world who give their preferential vote through the official site. The peculiarity of this award is that the winner leaves a permanent mould of his footprints on "The Champions Promenade", a sort of "Walk of Fame" of the international football on the seafront of the Principality of Monaco.

2005

Winner: ANDRIY SHEVCHENKO (Ukraine)

The other nominees:

David Beckham (England)
Hernan Crespo (Argentina)
Luis Figo (Portugal)
Oliver Kahn (Germany)
Paolo Maldini (Italy)
Romario da Souza Faria (Brazil)
Ronaldo Nazario de Lima (Brazil)
Ruud Van Nistelrooy (Netherlands)
Zinedine Zidane (France)

"All Time" legends awarded:
George Best (Northern Ireland)
Francisco Gento (Spain)
Roberto Rivellino (Brazil)
Luigi Riva (Italy)
George Weah (Liberia)
