new midfield ideas from Carlo.....

Im sure most of you have seen that Carlo said he wants players like Emerson, Edmilson, Marquez... So PIRLO can have more space. What does this mean in tactical meaning?? We all know milan will play 4-3-1-2 with kaka behind 2 forwards. and if Pirlo stays in his DM's position, and Gattuso on the RM, then Carlo clearly wants to replace Seedorf to give Pirlo MORE SPACE.

now, in my personal opinnion Pirlo is the one who should be replaced with player like Edmilson, De Rossi, Emerson ... And player like emerson simply cant play in seedorf's role. neither cant Pirlo becouse he cant move as seedorf can. Actually, I cant see Pirlo doing anything except passing long balls when he has space. Maybe Carlo wants to change Rino with tough player that can also create ( Edmilson, De Rossi...).

What do you think about his?? What kind of a change will Carlo make in here?
Do we need changes for next season in midlield? Arent seedorf-pirlo simply too slow for this"new fast football"?

I think its quite clear that we need midfield reinforcements...and in particlar a defensive midfielder in the style of a "Redondo", who can tackle, pass, and create chances.

mrki, I disagree with you in terms of who you think should be replaced. Pirlo is too important to be "replaced" indeed, he has been labelled "irreplaceable" by our own coach..(not that you hold him in high regard, but it underscores the importance our tactician credits Pirlo with), and as such, it wont be he that will be left out by this aquisition.

Gattuso to me, looks like the person who would make way for an Emerson, or an Edmilson. It will probably Emerson, if Juve go down, if they dont, then who knows who it will be...I like Diarra, but it is unlikely that we will get him, as he is too pricey at the moment.

Pirlo, Seedorf (while he lasts) Kaka, and Player X, would be the starting midfield IMO...Carlo has already indicated that Max will be player X, but we could buy/aquire Emerson, were Juve to be relegated...I see Rino playing less next term, coming into games where we need more steel than creativity in the middle.

There is however, another scenario, that we would basically have two defensive midfielders, with Pirlo and Kaka being responsible for the playmaking.

I wouldnt put this past Carlo...indeed, it may be the more probable of the outcomes mentioned herein, as he is not (despite the opinions of some to the contrary) an "over-attacking" coach.

Any of the aforementioned possibilities begs a question however: Where does Vogel go in all of this?

Vogel is, and for now remains, a sub.

What I think is that we will just adjust their positions...

currently

-------Kaka'-------
Seedorf-----Gattuso
-------Pirlo--------

next season

-------Kaka'-------
Seedorf-----Pirlo---
-----Gattuso-------

I think we're screwed without Pirlo. Fact is, even when he's not at his best he's important to the team, because nearly every attack starts with him. I think the big problem he's has in the last two season is that he's been so tightly marked that it's been hard for him to play at his usual level. I definitely support what Carlo wants to do, it seems like a very wise decision.

However, he also said that we don't need players like Emerson and Edmilson, because we already have Ambrosini.

Carlo's tactics have been found out as being overdependent on Pirlo. He was abysmal in the latter stages of this season's CL; we urgently need a shakeup. However, I can't see Carlo doing that.

I'd be tempted to try one striker, moving more towards 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-3 but unless Sheva stays, that leaves us without a natural sole front man. Inzaghi doesn't link the play well enough, Gilardino isn't quick enough. Plus, we lack width.

Just a change of positions without any single reinforcement?!? I hope that you are wrong!

I like the idea of 2 "defensive midfielders and 2 attacking ones....with seedorf , gattuso , max , vogel and whoever he brings in going for the 2 def mid positions and kaka , pirlo , seedorf for the 2 off mid positions....

sounds something similar to how brazil have their midfield running......could be very interesting indeed

The reason why we are screwed when Pirlo doesnt play in my opinion is because Gatusso isnt too clever with the ball. We suffer offensively when Gatusso gets the ball because he loses it or plays a rushed pass causing his team mates to lose it. Our only outlet in midefield is often Pirlo and Seedorf especially when Kaka is further forward. When Pirlo is missing and replaced by another player without the same skills i.e. a solid DM we cant keep the ball at all. If Seedorf and Pirlo played with someone who is more confident on the ball the team would enjoy more time on the ball. I remember some of our best performances were with Vogel playing instead of Rino. i.e. Against PSV where we by some miracle didnt score. The other leg Rino played and we got hammered.

We do need another defensive midfielder to help Pirlo out. As I see it, our back four is too vulnerable with a "defensive" player like Pirlo standing in front. He is great in starting our attacks, but have you guys noticed what happens when we lose the ball? Pirlo's space, i.e. the space between the back four and our midfield is wide open. Opponents have plenty of time to take the long shot, make a pass, cross, etc... And this is not entirely Pirlo's fault. He simply doesn't have the defensive skills to effectively "screen" and "shield" the back four. It'll be awesome if we can get somebody to do that job for him. This way Pirlo will just be assisting the other midfielders when we're defending and will be free to track up when we attack. But at what cost? Now that Sheva's gone, I am for playing with Kaka and one striker, that way we free up a player without tampering with the current midfield set up.

I agree with Gattuso being replaced.. he isn't too creative in the midfield. We should buy a DM to put where pirlo currently plays and push pirlo to gattuso's position.. or replace him with a more natural winger.. e.g Sneijder

pirlo is our heartbeat. i don't see i need to replace him but maybe a change of plan. this is how i would line up.
---------kaka--------
seedorf------gerrard
-----pirlo-----------
with all these players interchanging at various times of the game. with our full backs providing width and gerrard and pirlo both sharing the playmaker responsability. jankalovski would be rotated with seedorf to give natural width on the left. i would use him more than last season but i'm yet to be convinced about vogel. lack of matches doesn't help so i'm open to change my mind on that one. if ambro stays he would be my choice over rino as his ball use is much better. anyway thats my opinion what you reckon?

i don't think this would be a solution, gattuso would give away too many free kicks and very close to the goal.
Maybe we can try 3 in the back to free up a position in the midfield.

Yah rt9, I'm in agreement with you. I would like to see us play a 4-2-3-1 with Kaka fielded behind one striker, joined by attacking wings, with Pirlo and Gattuso playing in front of the defense winning the balls and distributing. But nope, the President insists on two strikers...

To simply rearrange our midfielder's position's is ridiculous, I cannot believe that the board will conform to such a mediocre solution.

Sorry for my language, I think Gattuso has a lot of muscle yet too little brain and too few nerves, he can be used when Pirlo shines but that is too diificult to be seen now aday. Another important point to notice is Gattuso's lack of height. My suggestion is he is still good defensive MF and can sell for 17-20M to MU, let do it and go for Diarra (may be 20-25M) so we have the same amount of running energy, much more skill and coverage (we have currently Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso around 1.75 - 1.77 m, Diarra is 1.85 at least).

Provided that we can find another striker that can partner Gila or Inzaghi we should play the same:

-------Kaka-------
Seedorf - Diarra

-------Pirlo--------

If not here is what easier to work:

---------Kaka---------
Seedorf - Pirlo - Diarra
----Ambros/Gattuso----

or

-------kaka--------
Janku-Pirlo-Seedorf
---Ambro/Gattuso--
