Bravo Jim! Three words and much depth to it. It says a lot about you and deserves commendation.
For those who want to claim being "anti Gila"... for what reason do you want this? I wasnt too thrilled when we bought him but since then I will be pro-Alberto Gilardino as long as he wears the Red and Black. He will score for us and perhaps at a time when we desperately need it. I have the faith in our club to bring him full circle. You nattering nabobs of negativism need to stop these useless and vitriolic attacks on anyone of our players... staff included.
The life cycle of Milan through the good times and bad, succeses and adversity is not a product! It is a LIVING PROCESS that is not a RIGHT but a PRIVILEDGE which us fans need to come to appreciate.
Good job TEAM MILAN! I know more is to come.

FORZA MILAN!

I wasn't sure if this post was better suited here or the Gila thread itself, so I posted it in both

I'm getting pretty tired of all the anti-Gila statements here. Quite frankly, first and foremost, the guy doesn't deserve to hung over yesterday's performance, he did well, often contributing to the attacking build up. Yes, he missed a stunning opportunity, but considering how much pressure has been placed on him and the obvious lack of confidence he has, I don't really blame him. Borriello also missed chances about as easy, but I never saw any real complaints about him.

Fact is, Gila has a goalscoring record that not many have matched, and is young and contributes a lot to the team play, considering his position. In fact, from the statistics I've seen, he had the greatest number of assists last season of anyone (I think inlcuding penalties won).

Also, let's take a look at his record domestically, as in the last few seasons where he has established himself as a capable striker, he has a goalscoring record of just under a goal a game (his average throughout is career is roughly 1 every 2 games). So lets compare that to Pippo, who's a proven goalscorer, who throughout his career has managed goals on average something like a goal every 2-3 games domestically.

In Europe so far Gila hasn't managed to score, but bear in mind that last season was his first proper debut of playing outside of Italy. Pippo in this field does have a better record, as he started performing in Europe immediately. When you factor in Europe then Both Gila and Pippo have around an average of about 1 goal in every 2 games. To be precise, Pippo actually has a slightly better average, but the fact is we're talking about Gila who is pretty much matching a player who is argubly the greatest goalscorer of his generation. When you consider how much Gila provides for the team compared to Pippo, his overall contribution is actually greater than Pippo's.

Finally, Gila in the last 3 seasons has scored over 20 goals twice and 17 in Serie A last year. Pippo on the other hand, in Serie A, has only ever scored 20+ goals once in his career, and has only ever manged 17+ goals 3 times in his career.

Now this season, from day 1 in Serie A (I won't count CL qualifiers as Gila wasn't really available), Gila has scored 0 goals, Pippo has scored 2 (1 Serie A and 1 CL), Oliveira has scored 1 and Borriello has scored 0. Fact is, Gila isn't the only one underperforming for us when it comes to strikers scoring. However, for inexplicable reasons, he has the greatest criticisms against him.

There's one aspect about Gila which I have noticed is necessary for him to play at his best, and that is he must be the focal point of the attack, the target man so to speak. Since he joined, Shevchenko was the previous focal point (though due to his versatility though Gila had room to make a mark) and now Pippo is the focal point, which means Gila has to try and play more for others, a role that isn't really his natural position.

Quite frankly, at Parma before he was able to make his mark, I wrote off Gila. Not only did he make me eat my words, he has gained my support as he has proven himself to be a very good player who has a lot to offer. His statistics are almost matching up to Pippo's and in many ways, he has a lot more to offer than Pippo, who is undoubtably one of the best forwards of his generation, and argubly the best pure goalscorer of his generation.

So, Gila obviously has a good enough record to warrant a starting place. His performances haven't been great, but there are numerous reasons for that (playing unnatural roles for him and a clear lack of confidence, something ALL strikers go through at some point are just 2 examples). Maybe he should be dropped, but for who? It's not like any of our other strikers are doing particularly better, and personally I feel more confident that once Gila gets a goal, he will continue to really start shining than any other striker.

Bravo DEV! Shared sentiments as well! No one. NO ONE who plays for us deserves the venom some here have spat.

Juve menagment allowed me to start talks about buying Gila

20 M Euro is the offer !

Juventus must have learned from one "mistake" ( i put the "" sign because from Juve's perspective it wasn't such big mistake, but that move did help Juve's rivals).

Juve bought one player who was a topscorer in the league with some small club (just like Gila with Parma).
In his first season he scored 18 goals in the league (almost the same as Gila with Milan). He used to score a lot in his next 2 seasons, not as much as his first season tho, but then it came a 13 matches non-scoring streak for him at the begining of one season.
Carlo Ancelotti was Juve's coach back then and he benched him, giving chance to young promising David Trezeguet and sometimes he even prefered Thierry Henry in front of the guy we're talking about.
Then this guy scored 7 goals till the end of the season, but Juventus' menagement decided they should give more chances to David Trezeguet and sell this guy who obviously didn't score as much as he was expected to.

We sold him to our rivals. I, or any other Juve fan didn't regret this decission because we got Trezeguet who became one of the best scorers in our history, but we still think that if we didn't sell the guy to our rivals, we maybe would have won the 2003 Champions league.
Oh, and the guy was scoring and scoring and scoring for our rivals.

Any idea who was he ?

20 M is the offer ( no Juve players involved)

Have all of you guys gone completely Gila-mad? The guy is CRAP! While at Parma he wa Adriano's sub. His record tallies at Parma were also due to the fact that he took their Penalty kicks as well. He isn't that good, and that's the plain fact.

The guy has not scored A SINGLE GOAL FOR US IN EUROPE!!! NOT EVEN AGAINST MINNOWS NOT EVEN IN DRUBBINGS/ BLOWOUTS!!!

Does anyone thing that the coach at PArma was crazy for putting a younger less experienced Adriano ahead of him? NO! Adriano was miles ahead of Gila and he isn't even that great!

Please be a fan of the team and not a fanatic of one individual and se that Gila is HURTING US!!! He is not dependable. In the OLD DAYS, if Sheva wasn't scoring we had Pippo. If he wasn't scoring we had Jon Dhal Tomasson. Now if Pippo isn't scoring or Ollie isn't scoring we have NO ONE!

I rue the day he played so well against us when at Parma because that was all the 'evidence' our mamagement seemed to need to buy him

Loool, i wrote my post at the same time you finished yours, but yes, we were both comparing Gila with the good old Filippo Inzaghi.

To be honest, the risk of Gila not performing well for Milan, ever again, still remains. There are a lot of examples about players being top class for one and average for other teams ( Henry in Arsenal/Juve , Rivaldo in Barcelona/Milan , Mendieta in Valencia/Lazio, Sheva in Milan/Chelsea, Pirlo who was playing good football for a small team, pathetic in Inter and briliant in Milan etc etc etc).

But when Gila is concerned ( ok, he's one of my favourite young players and i may not be totally objective), i doubt he won't get back to his class displays in a short time.

I'm well into my 30's ( still feel like a 25 years old tho ) and i always had a passion in following youngsters and u-19, u-21 championships.
What Gila was doing 3 years ago on European u-21 championship, and how dominant he was against everybody else....wow. The only 2 examples of such dominance i can think of are Davor Suker for Yugoslavia in 1987 and Messi for Argentina last year.
Not even Pirlo, Raul or Figo had such impact on their u-21 teams or were so dominant.
So, if Gila was by far the best player of his generation in Europe ( and the world i'll dare saying) only 3 years ago, and now he suddenly he performs below his level, then the problem must be in his head, and it can be solved.
It's an insult to say he's not a Milan material, he's weak or stuff.
Just some more patience and he'll prove his class again. Ok, i understand club like Milan can not risk and in current situation there's not much time left for waiting.
But be sure that selling Gila won't do any good to Milan, but it certanly will do much good to someone else.

Henry and Pirlo are examples par exellence. You're not seriously thinking of adding Gila's name on this list, do you ?

I was swamped at work yesterday (Wednesday is an order scheduled day and a car drove through the front door of our business, causing over $50,000 in damage), so I forgot to check the score last afternoon. It took me almost five pages of track-backs to find out we'd won. But, I sure knew right away that some people find a guy who's having a rough patch of form is the worst player to ever lace on a pair of boots in the entire continent of Europe. Good prioritization people. Jesus...

Why do you compare Gila to Boriello. This comparison doesnt have any ground, same as comparison between Gila and Oliveira. Boriello and RO didnt immidiately get the place in the starting line up, unlike Gilardino. They had only several games to prove themselves, considering that they almost never play the full game or from the start of it. Yes Boriello misssed many opportunities...nobody here says that he ve done really well, but Boriello havent got any chances to play, what do you expect from him. He is a bench man.

Oh yeah? He contributes by loosing the ball, wasting 100 percent goal opportunities and not scoring goals at all? Do you mean this contribution? Stop mentioning THE PRESSURE...Its ****! (I m not going to sware, but everyone understands what I mean). About his assist statistics for the last season....he had 2 assists for the whole previous year. Is it considered the greatest number of assists?

Gila played for Hellas Verona for 2 seasons and scored only 5 goals, then he moved to Parma where he scored 5 goals in the first season and another 50 in the second and third. After that he moved to Milan....I dont really see brilliant statistics...Two lucky seasons. Yes, it is called luck, and nothing else. The second season was lucky and third he scored many goals only because of being UP...being not moody. Maybe he should have stayed in Parma...he is not MIlan quality player.
In CL Gila cannot score, in Seria A Gila is not scoring for a long long long period...So yes, of course, he is a brilliant striker! Just THE ONE we need. Gila is just a dream of every team...

About the target man...yes Sheva left, but even playing with Sheva Gila didnt score in the second half of the season. Now there is Kaka...so there is help for Gila. Dont try to say that noone helps him, noone passes on him...Its not everybody's fault that Gila is not scoring - it is Gila's fault.
STOP constantly mentioning PRESSURE, POOR SERVICE etc....This is not the problem. What is Kaka supposed to do (or Pirlo, Oliveira, Inzaghi, Seedorf, Kaladze....)? Push Gilardino with the ball to the net, so he d finally score?

That is very well said...but I am afraid people are so fanatic about Gilardino here, that they ll not see this..You can write and rephrase..They do not want to see it, they prefer to wear "Pink Glasses" and this that life is "Pink"...
