When he was young he was a big fan of ....

Hey !

You all know how every kid in Italy has his favourite club. Many kids in, lets say Bari , are chearing for their club, but almost all of them have a favourite club from the bigger clubs.

Just like all the other kids, nowdays players were also having a favourite club in the past. Some of them liked ( and still like) Milan, some Inter, Roma or Juve.

We all heard the stories about Maldini and Milan, about Del Piero being a juventino since he was born etc.

But what about the other players. What about Inzaghi who was celebrating his goals both in Juve and Milan. What about Buffon, Pirlo, Materazzi and others. Which was (is) their favourite club ?

From what i've read so far, Zambrotta was a Milan fan playing for Juve, Gilardino a Juve fan playing for Milan, and that's all i've heard.

Does any of you knows smthg more ?

I've actually read that as a child, Maldini liked Juve. Of course at the time he was still playing forward or midfield.

Maldini liked Juve, but they rejected him and now's he's full rossonero!!

Baresi was rejected by Inter, not sure if he was a fan.

May be Maldini was not aware of the corrupt gobbis that is why he mistakenly liked them.

Baresi's brother played for Inter and was pretty popular among the inter fans.

A few others, Raul is Atletico Madrid born and raised but they got rid of their entire youth team so he had to go play for Real instead!

Another load are the Liverpool legends, Fowler, Macmanaman, Carragher, Owen and (supposedly) Gerrard who all grew up as Everton fans

nesta as a lazio fan?

That's right, Nesta was always a Lazio fan, just as Totti was always for Roma. Not sure but I think Cannavaro was a Parma fan as a youngster (he was a ball boy at least).

Nope, Cannavaro is still a huge Napoli fan.
He's from Napoli and he's using every oportunity to mention how FC Napoli is the only team he trully loves.
If someone wonders how can Canna be a fan of a "small" team only, and he ain't fancing Milan,Inter or Juve, then the answer is simple :
At the time when Canna was a kid who just started learning his football in his home town Napoli, the football team Napoli, with Maradona and Ferarra ( both of them are his idols) was the best team in Italy.
Everyone loved Napoli back then


P.S : Dev , Canna was a ball boy in Napoli, not in Parma

1. And i've just visited Buffon's official site. As a kid he fancied 2 teams : the first one was Pescara, but FC Genoa was the team he loved the most.

There's one interesting thing i read there, and it's how Parma, Milan and Bologna were the 3 teams after him , when he was only 13. According to Buffon, Milan was the closest in getting him. Giggi came in 1991 at Milanello and was impressed by the 3 dutchmen, but since Parma was closest to his house, his parents decided to put him in Parma's youth school.
The rest is history....


2. Gattuso
It was hard to find anything about his favourite football club when he was a kid, but on his official site there is one sentence, when Rinno is asked about his idol, saying :
My idol is... "Mio padre, rossonero come me da sempre" ( My father, rossonero, just like me, since always"


3. Andrea Pirlo
Another one who cheers for his home town club...Brescia.
But, at a certain time of his life, he was cheering for ( you won't like this) Juventus
Ok, don't jump... Roberto Baggio was and still is his idol. He was more of a Baggio fan than a Juve fan .

Ah yes your right, my mistake. I only remember about the ball boy stuff because he did some cool juggling tricks with toilet roll.

but i noted that when u play football manager the fact that stated the player favourite player is quite real. i know that bonera is a milan fan.

yup... Pirlo is a huge Baggio fan... he did mention before that he wore a Baggio Italian jersey while watchin' Baggio durin' France 98...
