I did something similar for Gilardino during the World Cup. I noted everything, the times he won the ball, lost the ball, was passed to, made a successful pass, attempts on goal, attempts on target, etc. I used that and no one took a blind bit of notice, so what's the point?

icculus, i think you should scrub off the ball running as that'll be very hard to mark. You'll only be able to see what the camera sees, so if the camera is in midfield and Gilardino is making several runs, you won't see squat.

It doesn't matter if you have 10 posts or 10,000 posts. If you come up with a good idea then run with it, see what happens

yeah, but at worst you catch the tail end, and can get a good idea of what their doing...especially gila, who stays very central, and makes very straight ahead runs...

from a coaching standpoint, i study it because you can learn the systems each coach plays, and how well a team plays together.
(the reason i like to watch AC Milan, and Arsenal is their mov't, milan with wonderful overlaps, and arsenal's tight 1-2 passing triangles)

from a players perspective, for example, when gattusso is carrying the ball across midfield, i watch to see what options the other players are GIVING him.

I also must say that Italy were (in my eyes) wrongly accused of being offside on at least 4 occassions. A note to the linesman ... level means onside !

Del Piero was hugely disappointing, i thought he'd run at the USA alot more.

For the next game, they should have this team. Buffon, Oddo, Nesta, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Pirlo, Gattuso, Camoranesi, Del Piero, Inzaghi, Gilardino.

The Czech's will have problems up front and it will fall to the midfield to stop Nedved, Rosicky and Poborsky making their runs. If they do that then they can beat the Czechs.

On to Gilardino. I thought he had a good match, indeed if he was praised by Oksana then he must have done something right

In the first half he was passed to 9 times, of which 2 of those times he was fouled, he was wrongly adjudged to be offside once and the other 6 times he passed the ball to another Italian. Of those 6 times he passed the ball he successfully passed it 5 times, which is an 84% success rate. Only once did his pass go astray. He did lose possession twice, but these came from long balls played in his area rather than direct passes meant for him. Of those two losses of possession, one was a tackle from behind and the other was a high ball he tried to square to Toni, but it didn't come off. Add to that the goal, so one shot, one on target and one goal ... 100% accuracy there

The second half he hardly touched the ball. I had him down as being passed to directly only 4 times ! Two of those times he was fouled, one of which was Pope's 2nd yellow card. He lost possession once out of those 4 times and passed to a team mate successfully the other time. He also had a late header that was wide of the goal.

He did make the runs in the second half, but Italy were all over the place that nothing seemed to work that well for any of the team. Iaquinta kept getting the ball and messing up. I would have liked to have seen him try a bit harder in the second half, but overall he was good.

I only did it for the Italy v USA game. It's hard to put all of this into context now as you really need the match fresh in the memory to make much sense of it.

oh, its still fresh...my family pulls for both italy and usa, usually without conflict.

Jim, that is good stuff! i beleive that is the information required to successfully support or critisize, in this case support.
i remember thinking that gila played well in that game, however, that game was unordinary, with all the fouls, sending offs, ect.

I was reading the posts here...MY GOD! Anti-Gila..Pro-Gila...good fans..bad fans....Guys you really dont see the point. Somebody said that I didn't apply the same measures to Sheva and Inzaghi...then look, how come that when you compare Sheva's and Gila's performance, you forget that Sheva have actually been injured for quite some time last year, huh??? And a lot of other staff that you write without thinking...So look at your own posts and facts before saying that mine are sh*t... I ll stop this discussion about facts, as you dont get what I am saying anyway...Keep on believing that Gila ll repeat Parma's record in Milan....
I wonder if someone mentioned it here before...but I found out some interesting information from my husbend's grandfather. Before Milan - Inter match he heard on SKY SPORT Gilardino saying: "Today nobody will cry for Shevchenko, because i am here and I am in such a good shape...." (those maybe are not the precise words, as its a translation from Italian..but the sense is this). How do you like that? I think that was very much above the limit...He seems to be enjoying Sheva's absense a lot....if he d score as good as he seems to enjoy the fact that Sheva is gone...Disgusting...

He seems to be enjoying Sheva's absence a lot? This is what I mean by taking words out of context in order to favor your opinion. HOw about this? I see this as his determination to score?

This is probably an equally biased statement. But I'm simply showing you the fact that your judgment is as biased by your stereotype against him as those who are so-called pro-Gila.

For God sake, it's alright to hate a person. But you don't need to interpret every single thing he said as something he is immodest, useless. I think THIS is above the limit.

i think we all would agree that he should be showing a little humility...at least now, if not always.

he should never bring up $heva in any conversations. their is no pt.

talking about other players, unless your praising them, ALWAYS comes off classless.

I strongly disagree with you Jeff..
First and foremost, He has absolute no right to say anything like that about Sheva bcoz he MAY be playing well but he is not Scoring Goals as a striker should.. It is absolutely ridiculous that it came from him of all people (his goals so far says a lot: 0)

Its good that he has that confidence to step in Sheva's shoes becoz I reckon not many strikers would even wish to dream of eclipsing Sheva's scoring record for Milan..
Its just sad that Albert talks the talk but he stumbles and fumbles during the walk..

About Milan not scoring much, everyone has to take blame simply because everyone has to chip in their fair share. Look at Chelsea, they won 2 straight Championship with a trash of a striker (Drogba?Kezman?Mutu?) Its so sad because IMO the whole team is being shouldered by KaKa who is an Attacking Midfielder.. Lets face it.. we're just like the Liverpool of 2-3seasons ago.. Gerard Plays well, Liverpool Plays well.. KaKa plays well, Milan plays well..

The only thing I have personally agreed with Ancelloti is that KaKa is simply the BEST Player / Midfielder in the world including Ronaldinho,Gerrard,Messi

I just pray that his confidence in himself is based on his abilities and not arrogance..

guys.....gila is gila...just give him some time..watever u guys say will not effect how bad he will play or how good he will play..its just a matter of him finding it within himself last season he did solid....a slow start does not mean the player itself is bad...lots of people criticized ronaldihino in the world i kno we cant compare the two...but both are football players and do wat the ydo best and eventually will turn around

SkyEdge.......who said that Gila said anything like that? Egoistika's husband's grandfather? - Come ooonn!!! I have nothing against him, or her husband, or Egoistika....but she is definatly, like Jeff said, is turning and twisting words just to make them fit her claim. It is so childish!

Let's be honest......if Gila said something like that it would have ben all over the web and the papers, and not only in Egoistika's claims. I really feel that this is a little suspicious as only "she" heard it from "someone else".

I'll give Egoistika credit for saying that those might not be the exact same words, but that is the whole point. Because one mistaken word or phrase can change the whole meaning of that.

Actually, Gilardino basically said that Sheva had alot of time to prove his worth at Milan and this was only his second season with us. Then he said that he would work hard so the fans dont miss $heva too much. Good luck to him aswel, Im sure even the electrical fans here would join me in wishing him luck in that??

I remember seeing the article/interview on Calciomercato and Channel4 and i'm almost 100% sure he said nothing like what Egoistka said.

He spoke about Shevchenko and said he'd be at Milan a long time and would hope to prove himself to the fans by working hard.

I think you missed something in translation.

I was thinking about the rating criteria and I would like to propose this further addition
As Icculus and I have already agreed upon the rating shall be three points per game
1:for all the mentioned activities/ qualities
1: for scoring
1: for scoring more than 1 goal

I would like to propose a rating of FIVE (5) points per game:
1:for all the mentioned activities/ qualities
2: for scoring
1: for scoring more than 1 goal
1: for a direct assist

That way no striker can have a scoring drought and be rated as "playing well" however their contribution to the score is acknowledged.

Also I must say that I am in total bewilderment at reading the posts of the pro-gila camp, who seem to overrate the non-scoring aspects of his game. Were he a support striker or attacking mid, these assertions would have had some semblance of credit. As it stands though they are simply ridiculous for an out-and out striker.

Additionally Sheva didn't need all those years that Gila and his fans are talking about to establish himself at Milan. He was our topscorer in his debut season. As a support striker/ winger he was almost always played out of position and except when injured/ recovering he produced. Sheva was a support striker/ winger by his own admission, but he did a wonderful job as the lone striker or an out-an-out striker. Why can't Gila at least do a half-decent job as a support striker? Hell I have seen RVN play support striker and he is even more selfish than Inzaghi!!! Sheva came from a much smaller club and a completely different league. Do please stop with the annoying Gila excuses and favourable comparisons with Sheva!! They are nauseating!!

I have been accused of being a fake milan fan etc etc. But how could the pro-Gila fans support such gross incompetence and then claim to be a rossoneri? I can't believe that there are those here who actually think that he played well in the WC!!! I wonder which WC were you watching?
And yet you have the gall to knock me for supporting a player that scored two more and one assist more than him (ronaldo)????

To me our strikers are generally hurting the team but as the most is expected of Gila, he is hurting us the most!
