Uefa 'Home Grown Players' Proposal
Definition:
A home trained player is either club trained or association trained. CLUB TRAINED: A player trained at that club for 3 years between the ages of 15 and 21. ASSOCIATION TRAINED: A player trained at a club in the same association for 3 years between the ages of 15 and 21. The Proposal: In all UEFA competitions a club has to name a 25 player squad list. UEFA want to introduce an enforcement that 4 of these players must be home trained. Then over 5 seasons to progressively increase this number to 12 home trained players. What are your views on this matter ? I honestly don't think it's that bad of an idea. All great players come out of some youth system. Just ensure your club has a good enough youth system so that it's your club producing these great players. Sorry I can't provide a link..but you can always google the rule if you don't believe the post. That's not off Uefa's site..that's from a post someone made. So don't quote me on anything there. |

I trust you.
And I thank you. And I won't quote you. ![]() I see that the definition of "association trained" makes this quota of 4 really easy to reach, as basically most Italian players are trained in Italy when they are between 15 and 21; and that could also include foreigners trained in Italy (say, Aubameyang, Bloudek, Digao?); let's say we have Zambrotta, Buffon, Oddo (well, he could even be club trained), together with Pirlo, Nesta, Gilardino. Honestly, I don't think increasing to 12 in over 5 seasons are so hard to do. Not at all.

So once we this rule is applied, Ajax and Roma will be the only true contenders UCL.
------------ It is a good idea as it will force clubs to invest on players from a young age rather than buying pricey and evolved players. We should start preparing it from now on. First objective should be to buy players between the ages of 16 and 20 and invest in the development of youth program infrastructure. It will also be good to appoint full time, trained instructors rather than appointing past Milan players for one year and then kicking them out of the management. This screws the rythm of the young players. I feel that the reason why we haven't got good players from the youth academy is because of the frequent changes in the Manager's post.

As Xudong said, this rule isn't as restrictive as it may seem at first sight. We meet the requirements even now with virtually all of our Italian players falling in the "home-trained" category.
Actually, even Chelski and Arsenal are covered, at least for now.

the funny thing is that, althoug Chelski are blamed for buying everything that breaths, it's Arsenal that will have a bigger problem with these requirements as the only Englishman in their first team or even among the 14-15 most played players is ... well, no one.
Chelski on the the other hand have Lampard, Cashly Cole, Joe Cole, Terry, Bridge (maybe not any more), Right-Phillips, and maybe some other youngster in the squad.

I have just went over to the link Mystik provided and saw this information that Mystik didn't single out.

So that means that each club has to have at least two "club-trained players" to be in the UCL this year. I would think that if that number would increase steadily over year (say, +1 each year), that could be the real killer. ![]()

well, he did sign a new contract. Maybe Zlat believes that he is still going to leave anyway. that could be very possible, seeing the way Chelsea is.

I mentioned that mostly in connection with why Milan were so keen on Oddo and weren't going after younger and more perspective players like Miguel or Alves, for instance. Still, having 2 club trained isn't much of a restriction, although with Maldini and Billy leaving we'd have to think more seriously about it. Marzoratti seems to have the biggest chance to jelp us out in this, and maybe Ambro will also stay with Milan. In the near future, however, I believe the number of club-trained players will grow to 4, so then we might have some more planning to do.

actually, I think Bridge was either very close to signing or actually signed a precontract with another EPL team, not sure which one 'cause frankly I don't care
... maybe it was Tottenham or Fulham or whatever.Either way, I would be surprised if he doesn't leave at the end of this season ... maybe even in the winter break. What would Chelski do? well, they'll just go out and count 20-30 mil for Abidal most probably
