If you want to probe, somewhat, how bad this guy is go to Argentina's only sports paper (www.ole.com.ar). The front cover says "Grimi to Milan. No, its not an April Fool's day joke"
Enough said. |

here is a working link:
http://www.ole.com.ar/ and the full article: http://www.ole.com.ar/notas/2006/12/28/01335064.html By referring to that "april fool's day joke", they are not implying that he is an awful player but that he is just a 21 yo kid with only 15 games in the Argentinian first division, who will soon be playing alongside great players like Cafu, Kaka, Pirlo, Inzaghi, etc in one of the best teams in the world ... something that is like living in the fairy tales for a kid like him, who has very little experience in first-flight football in general and until several months ago was playing in the lower divisions. So, maybe it's better to say more than read between the lines .

As for what he is really capable of, I would rather wait and judge him on his perfomances for Milan becuase at such an early age and lack of experience and confidence - he's had just 15 games in 1st division for his entire career, after all - a lot of misjudgements may take place regarding a player's talent and potential ... turning in several unimpressive/bad perfomances are no guarantee that he, in time, won't flourish and realize his potential. You know, kind of like that story about the ugly duckling. either way, getting him may be a gamble but whatever happens with him, he won't be a financial burden to Milan. EDIT: As for those forum posters making fun of Grimi, well, I am sure you will find MM members making fun of Ronaldinho even and many other established players ... it's just fans' opinion i.e. objectivity is hardly a first priority ![]()

I have even watched him playing Serie B ball, and he wasnt good either. I know this wont be a financial burden to Milan, but its a shame. They say "No" to Oddo because he is expensive and they are about to pay 2M Euros for a player they could have gotten for next to nothing and isnt an interesting prospect. |

after a long abscense, i had to come back when i saw this...
to say just .. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHHAHAH HAHHAHA NO WAYYY Hey, i can offer Galliani Almagro's RB, he comes from playing in 5th division, he might want him....we'll give him for free...or why not all our defenders hahah And another thing, this guy comes from Huracan, not really the best club if we talk about young teams... so, without experience in first division, and...well...no talent =P what in the hell do they found on him? BUT...... Remember Zanetti..he wasnt that good..or that famous..and came from a smaller club tha Racing, from Banfield (yuck)..and originary started playing football in Talleres de Escalada, on 3rd division... so we ll have to see...right now , the only thing we can do is.... LAUGH HAHHHAHAHAHAH

Milan is getting closer and closer to signing Oddo by the day. In italian papers they treat this as an almost done deal, so not really sure what you meant by "saying NO to Oddo".
As for people here not making fun of Gattuso, Pirlo, or whoever else apart from Kaka, I think you speaking more out of wishful thinking and not what's been written in these forums, or any other in that matter - Milan players, Gattuso, Pirlo, Cafu, Dida etc being mocked at by their own fans is like a national sport here, especially now in this difficult for Milan period. It's present all over the place even here on MM, and this is one of the most moderated forums you could find because forum rules have been adjusted so that insulting and deriding players is very limited. Go visit other Milan forums and you won't believe your eyes at the insults that are being thrown at players like Pirlo, Dida, Nesta and others. Fans are rarely fair and objective, you know (for proof, take a look at the post above yours )Anyways, I am digressing a bit from the main point here. I am not gonna say that I am thrilled by Milan signing a completely unknown player like Grimi but let's at least give him a chance or two to prove what he's worth and then start judging him.

Oh, and another thing...
this thing might have been going since some time ago, but the thing is Milan wouldn buy any player from Argentinian 2cond division...so they sell Grimi to Racing so he can be sold to Milan after playing in first division. Something like this (or the same) happened to former Tigre (3rd then, now 2nd division) player Carlos Luna, who played 2 or 3 games and not even in the starting line for Racing last year...and then was sold to some european club, i dont remember or so. Sometimes players dont need to play good, just a good manager. anyway HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

What if, and there's a good chance it will happen, the plan behind all this is to keep him around till the summer as a just-in-case back up and then loan him out to another serie A team to "prep" him a little more before he gets his chance to prove if he's Milan material or not ... sort of what we did with Coloccini. If you consider this very plausible option, getting Grimi all of a sudden doesn't look so pointless and laughable, does it?

Are all the people down with the Oddo deal? I am not. I don't want to give up a potential player, Foggia, and spend 7 mil on Oddo. Oddo was a Milan player and now we shoot our foot to get him back when we had the chance to keep him when he was younger. I think mistake shouldn't be repeated here. Brocchi was another example. I can only hope that we offer half of the ownership of Foggia with Lazio... not to sell him to get Oddo... you know...
As for Grimi... I have no idea and I haven't heard of him until today. I don't know if he would be great but I only remember all the young defenders Milan bought throughout, say, Coloccini, Ayala (Maybe not a good example here), N'gotty, Lausen (Maybe he could be a good player but he's too injury prone), a Brazilian named Julio Cesar I think... plus Pablo Garcia, Ba, De Acenstis, Guinti, Saudati, Commandini, Graffiedi, Jose Mari, Javi Moreno... man, I think I make my stand here... so I don't think Milan has any luck getting young defenders who turn out to be great! I don't have great expectation but I will keep my eyes open and hope for the best. |

I think Milan missed out on Oddo when they sold him to Verona at first place, and then again when they didn't buy him back after Verona got relegated. Camoranesi and Oddo were both having fantastic season at Verona when the team was relegated. They played great but just the two of them weren't enough to keep the team in A. Juve took their chance with annonimous, unproven but very talented Camoranesi, while Milan decided not to get back to 26 years old Oddo and they let him go to Lazio. Instead Milan bought 33 years old Caffu. I'm not saying Caffu was a mistake. Of course he wasn't and he's a better player than Oddo. But he wasn't someone for the future, while Oddo has proven his qualities in Verona, he was still very cheap due to Verona's relegation and he could have covered the RB position in Milan. But mistakes happen, and you're right they shouldn't be repeated ! |
