Official: Leandro Grimi signs for Milan

If he was voted the best young player in the Apertura tournament he can't possibly be as poor as some people are making out and please get over this obsession with signing young players and loaning them out immediately. We heard the same thing when Kaka' and Gourcuff signed and they went into the first team straight away. Everyone knows we need to build for the future so Grimi will get chances this season. I expect he needs to put a few hours in the gym first as judging from his weight he seems light for a centre back.

LMAO. Where did you see that he was voted the best young player in the Apertura? He wasnt even among the best youngsters in his team, and their own fans are celebrating his departure.

Its a false report. Thats not true.
And I know it because I follow the league, but even if you dont know about the argentinean league it would only take common sense to realize that Gago or Higuain or Mauro Zarate (Inter after him, they seem to know what they are doing) would have taken that award. But there isnt such award in Argentina and Grimi wasnt a top 10 player for Racing last season during the Apertura. And we are talking about a team sport consisting on 11 starters.

Interesting debate...but the "taste of the pudding, is in the eating"...so we all should wait until we actually does in a Milan shirt before we start with the premature evaluations.

If our scouts said he is good enough for us to spend on, then he is...until he proves them wrong, and GilAttack[11] and those of similar mindset right.

I for one, only hope he becomes a great player for us...

I am happy because he is joining us. I do not know how good he is and don't expect herculean stuff from him, but one thing I do know is that this will shut the traps of the people who keep crying for "young-blood" in our team without any introspection.

Warro, I understand what you are saying. And trust me, as a Milan fan myself Im shocked about this news and its sad. Obviously most of the people here havent watched Grimi and thats why they are taking a "wait and see" approach. Cant blame them. But the only thing you can hope with Grimi is that he isnt a blackhole for Milan and turns out to be an OK player. He doesnt have a chance to be special.
I wouldnt be surprised if Milan loans him out in june and never see him back in red and black.
Its hard to picture a Milan scout recommending Grimi. There must be something going on between managers, agents, etc.

The biggest bonus for me is that he is 21. That significantly reduces our back-line's average age.

Seems Grimi arrived in Milan today and already made some comments to sky tv saying everyone knows about Milan and it's players and that his idol is Paolo Maldini. It's not excluded that Grimi joins the rest of the squad for the mini tour in Malta.

Its all about quality. Milan is about quality. Im 19 and I would also reduce our team's average age, but thats not the point or Milan's goal.

Also there is a big difference between South America and Europe: a 21 years old player in Argentina, for example, already has 100 Serie A games while in Europe a 21 years old guy often is considered a young guy with little to none experience.

Maybe we will simply use him for some transfer targets, maybe we will give him to Lazio for Oddo deal, maybe to Palermo in attempt to sign Barzagli, who knows...

Fair enough but it's a start. Eboue and the like must have started somewhere. We didn't do too badly with Kaka. We'll have to wait and see.

I think this is an excellent move by the club. Remember that most of the first team players the club has brought in during the Berlusconi era have been successful. I trust what they're doing now, and I hope Grimi will become a great player for us. Another Kaká?
