The Departed was awesome. Best movie I've seen this year. Great acting, great suspense, just an excellent movie in general.

I also saw Flags of our Fathers, one of the most overrated movies I've seen in a long time. I was expecting more, a lot more, especially after having read the book. Except for the three main characters, you don't get to learn anything about the other flag raisers. And the movie barely shows anything about the battle following the flag raising.

Even though its more historically accurate than Saving Private Ryan, I think the latter is a much, much better movie. By the end you actually get to know the characters and you care about what happens to them. In Flags of our Fathers, unless you've read the book, you probably won't be able to name the 6 flag raisers, unless you listened very closely. And you definitely won't be sure who was who in the movie.

Personally I found The Departed good, but not great. I thought that Leo while good in the role, could have done better. Mark Wahlberg of all people surprised me though. I loved what he did for his character.

Have you seen The Science of Sleep with GGB? Definitely his best performance. Funny, trippy movie about dreams. Higly recommended, if you can find a theater playing it.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Love it so much it hurts. There are so many great lines, and moments. To many to count. Johnny Depp should have received an Oscar for it. His performance is nothing short of genius. I know there never will be, but a sequel would rock. Benicio Del Toro takes a great turn as the disturbed side-kick. I wonder if his character could even tell the difference between sobriety and being high. All of the cameos are a nice treat, especially the Flea one in the bathroom, " I s-p-i-l-l-e-d L-S-D o-n m-y s-h-i-r-t..." Tobey Maguire has a great scene as well, he actually looks quite believable as the sickly albino guy. I'd say it's nothing short of incredible.

Goose - I haven't seen Science of Sleep yet, haven't been able to find a theatre playing it Will probably haave to wait for the dvd.

rahul - haven't seen that movie as I was always worried I would be disappointed....the book is such a great one I thought it wouldn't translate well. Maybe one day I will give it a whirl. (I can still remember reading the book on a cross-country flight and holding my nose cause I was laughing so hard and trying to not make a spectacle of myself)

I'm hoping to find a theatre playing The Last King of Scotland and also Thank You for your Consideration (from the same guy who did Best in Show - hilarious movie btw)

Of course, whenever a movie is made out of book you'll find the book more interesting. Still the movie is great and you will have no clue about it unless you have read the book.

Anyone seen Pan's Labyrinth? It wasn't what i was expecting, i thought it was going to be more along the lines of Alice in Wonderland with a whole new world to explore. That said it was still really good and surprisingly violent in places. Worth watching if you get the chance.

The departed. I'm still not sure what to make of that film, it goes on for a long time and then concludes quite abruptly. I don't think i've watched a film with as much swearing in as that one though!

I personally liked it - not as good as Goodfellas, IMO but still a good piece of film - surprise ending and shed some light on Boston realities.

maybe you are forgetting "Layer Cake" and "Snatch" ... or any of the other Vinnie Jones movies

I've not seen Snatch or Layer Cake, they don't really interest me to be honest. I don't think i've seen Vinnie Jones in any decent kind of role, he only had a few words in X-Men 3 and he still messed them up. His best role had to be in Gone in 60 Seconds where he didn't say anything in the whole film except for right at the end ... bliss!

The Departed was a good film, alot of good actors in it ... and i think i did enjoy it after thinking about it.

if you like good gangster movies - like the Godfather and now the Departed - you should take a look at Goodfellas (another Scorsese film) ... if you haven't done so already.

I've seen Goodfellas, Casino and a few other gangster films. Though i have to admit it's not my favourite genre of movie.

Roll on Thursday/Friday (depending when i see it) for 300!

The worse movie I've ever seen! Anybody contemplating going to see this waste of time should save their hard earned money.

I intend to watch 300 very soon, am a big fan of the book.

Well I'm not too sure if you've wathced it yet. Again Jim dont waste your money. Dev the book might have been enjoyable but the movie is really really bad.
I think it bad Jim for several reasons. First of all this is about an actual historical event. Yes hsitory can be vague and making it into a movie quite impossible to tell the WHOLE story. I can understand that.
What did irk me about this movie was the total cgi characteristics of the movie. I think all of it was cgi. Secondly the film was more "fantasy" than fantasy themed stories out there like Lord of the Rings. Remember this is based on a historical event. Lastly the allegorical touch to it was just way over the top. The whole movie just dehumanizes what happen to real people, be they the Greeks or Persians. It was just unrealistic. Dont believe me??? Well wait for some sucker to by a dvd and borrow it. Perhaps a pirated download is possible as well.
I for the most part just dont go to the movies. Dont have the time. I somehow got dragged into going from some friends who wanted me to go for the sake of scrutinizing the historical accuracy of the film. Trust me... it was so bad that they really didnt need me to figure this out. Last time I went to a movie prior to this one was that movie with Russel Crowe as some British sea Captain chasing some darn Frenchie vessel during the Napoleanic Wars. That was a LOOOOONNNGG time ago no?
