Did you notice the fact that Pirlo Ambro and RInho combined run over 35 km, thats impressive by any standards... that gave us the edge

I saw stats like that for Gattuso when he was coming off - he supposedly covered 11.5km or so in this game.
Solid game by the midfeild although they did fell off physically towards the last 10-15 min but still mamaged to stop the wave of Bayern attacks and thus limit their chances to the occasional free kick or corner.

Nice and timely changes by Carlo too as he injected fresh into the team with the introduction of Gorky and Sergio and later Cafu too. If Sergio and Kaka were a little more concentrated, we could have killed off the game with a 3rd goal.

Very good game for us, everything is said that needs to be said. I just would like to say that Oddo had a really bad game but did well to clear that ball off the line in the first minutes of the game. He had some really bad pass that didn't lead anywhere. He just looks scared in the CL.

Ottmar Hitzfield :

Milan were the better team, but there was no real difference in quality between the two sides. In the first 15 minutes the match was balanced, but then my team suddenly lost their heads. We gave the ball away too easily for the first goal. [Clarence] Seedorf is an extraordinary player but he shouldn't have been allowed to get into a shooting position with as much space as he had. As for the second goal we shouldn't have allowed [Filippo] Inzaghi to get into that position - these mistakes proved costly. In the second half we found a way back into the game and had a few chances. We were in good shape, perfectly prepared and had big plans for this match, but I have to admit that we don't have the class of Milan. When they let the ball flow between their players, it is technical perfection. They play very intelligently and capitalise on every little mistake. They are one of the greatest teams in the world.
From Uefa.com

I have always respected Hitzfield but after these comments, I respect him even more.

After this game I hope Carlo continues to be the coach, whether we win the the CL or not. After all the bullsh*t this season, tonite's performance has really shown what this team is made of. Thanks to Ancelotti's leadership.

IMHO, man of the match was NESTA...

without underestimating Seedorf who was great also, specially between minutes 27 and 31...

Congrats milan! and thanks for slapping all the fickle fans in the face.

IMHO don't think we played our best football but we won, didn't conceed and the whole team worked for this win.

Overall it was a good team performance imo.

I have to agree with Sant, Nesta was our best player on the night.

There are still things that need work but we are getting there.

The important thing is that we are through to the next round.

Without a doubt, Carletto's best game this season as a coach. Here's hoping that whatever switches clicked in his noggin before Bayern, they return in two weeks.

Yeah, we didnt play beatiful football but played simple one.

Dida played great. That performance we need from Dida. On the second half, we just defended. Actually I didnt so happy to look at that tactic because if Bayern could get a goal, it would be big problem for us. Their spirit would charge up with a goal. But still I have to admit, the defence tactic was superb with trio Maldini, Nesta and Dida. I have also to give credit to Oddo who was really good to defend last night. Ambro, Pirlo and Gattuso were so solid in midfield plus seedorf covered the flank.

We didnt do great counter attack. We could win more then 3-0.

Oddo - Can't say he had his usual attacking game going, but defensively he was ok, and saved us conceding.
Janku - Pretty good game today, defensively solid and got forward pretty well, and even managed to produce a couple of dangerous crosses
Nesta - Excellent game, very solid and not a single mistake.
Maldini - Same as Nesta
Pirlo - A good game. There was a little period in the second half where Bayern's aggressive and physical approach caused him trouble.
Rino - Aggressive and worked hard
Ambro - Worked hard, important from a physical perspective
Kaka - a pretty decent game. He was involved in most of our attacking play. However, Lucio deserves credit, as again he was able to stop Kaka overall. I think this is due to Lucio's natural strength and speed.
Seedorf - Was superb during the first half, disappeared in the second.
Pippo - Worked hard, good goal, glad to see his return
Serginho - Added a lot to our counterattacking play, though clearly still not match fit.
Gourcuff - Was a good outlet at the end, holding the all well and really easing the pressure
Cafu - NR
I dont think Oddo was just ok. He was great to cover the right side and helped Nesta a lot. His performance was great in defence tactical point of view.

Lucio was superb last night but I do think last night was not Kaka's best performance. He was beaten by Lucio in catching the ball with sprint, it's unusual for me. His passing to Gourcuff, last shot on the second half and unsuccesful dribble just showed me that he needs rest. He was not fresh. He played too much.

For seedorf, I do hope he can mantain his last night performance. That's closed to old Seedorf I know with very good covering the left side area, dribbling and holding the ball, accurate pass. But still I couldnt see his old speed. He was still too slow for me, sorry.
