true, but with the new EPL prize money being so much if they drop a league position they lose more than that.
Also if they dont make Europe they not only lose millions in EPL prize money and potential UEFA cup earnings but also half their squad will leave, particularly Arteta and Johnson, to go play for teams that did mkae Europe ![]()

They gain 500k only if Utd win the league, this also assumes they knew a great deal about the last few fixtures, for example Chelsea's draw with Bolton today. If that hadnt happened then Utd wouldnt have increased their lead, and would still be only been 3 points clear still with 2 tough away games still to play. Also, they are now 6th because of todays loss. The loss of 1 place in prem prize money is 500k which immediately wipes out the gains from Rooney winning the league, not only that but if Spurs win their game in hand then Everton drop another place to 7th! That would leave them 1 point above Portsmouth, who they play next weekend, before they play away at Chelsea on the last day of the season. Lose one of those 2 games and they would fall to 8th. Quite simply, because they lost today they are in very real danger of missing out on Europe next year and with it missing out on millions as well as risking losing half their team! Do the maths and you cant help but notice its not really worth risking all of that in the hope Rooney will now win the league ![]()

With TV money becoming a huge factor in the 90s, England, Spain, and Italy have each become very powerful financially. England, however, has done the best with collective distribution of these tv rights, but Milan, Juve, Inter can still financially compete with Man U, Chelsea, Real both because of their TV rights and generous patronage. The administrative side of Italian football is a downright mess, and its shortcomings in that aspect have been copiously documented. However, on the pitch, in my opinion, Italian football remains the sterling standard. Italy just won the World Cup with a team based entirely out of Serie A. The England (and even Spain to an extent) national football team is a joke. When you put 23 Englishmen together, a press which specializes in blustering patriotism before an event and abject despair after it, and the Baden Baden culture, you get the idea that not only are England destined for failure at every event, but also that that failure is going to be similar in nature everytime: hype which is followed by collapse and self-obsession. Anyway, to the point: the reason I single out the English media for special mention is due to the very fact that it is in ENGLISH. That is, the English media is the most widely read media on football matters simply because of the language it is written in. As such, they have a duty not to trudge out age old stereotypes of the depravity of Italians, and the mantra that Italian football is in terminal decline. Before the World Cup, and during it, you got the feeling in the English media that they wanted Italy to fail simply because of the match-fixing scandal. Now, of course, I am not going to deny that other media did the same; however, again, the English media is written in English. I'm sure you get my point. One last thing. I suggest you seriously look for some editorials before the event and in magazines that did more than "just look for reasons of squad unity once Italy got to the Final." |

it all looked very strange that for no reason Phill Neville belted ball into his own goal when he could have cleared it. very suspicious also when Chris Eagles scored nobody made an attempt at challenging him.

Hasan first of all i'd like to apoligise if you got the impression i felt the enmity was all yours. It is far more of a general observance over the past decade or more.
You do have a point about the English media being the most influential in the English speaking world, but you have to remember that in most of the anglo-sphere football isnt actually that big a game, Canada, America, Australia and co all prefer to play other sports. India and Pakistan again have plenty of English speakers but no great interest in football. English maybe the current lingua franca of international communication but in the world of football the strongholds of South America are almost all Spanish or Portuguese speakers. The main footballing areas of Africa are former French colonies like Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Morrocco and so on. Maybe as a native of North America you get what seems to be a disproportionate level of Premiership coverage, compared to the other 2 major leagues and that is skewing your perspective a little.

Eagles actually finished his goal well, and the reason nobody challenged him is because Utd tore through Everton on the break as Everton were chasing an equaliser. If that goal is suspicious then by the same investigative methods Utd's 3rd vs Milan is highly dubious, Milan had no reason to commit so many players forward but had done, Brocchi miscontrols a throw in(!) to Giggs, who runs 50 yards without any pressure put on him, before passing to Rooney who is put under no pressure by a world class defender and scores past a poorly placed keeper ![]() As i said before, i dont think it was a dodgy goal at all, just a series of coincidences that combined badly for Milan. Its just worth pointing out to conpsiracy theorists that football is played by men not robots, and men are prone to error ![]()

omg, its obvious that this game is fixed
Everton acted with little team effort, yet absolutely open-mindedly - that's where the 2 goals came from MU - all their goals are such pure luck, that you have to be blind not to see the pattern Everton 1st goal - MU defender deflected the shot, otherwise Van Der Sar had it, striker just took a shot.. 2nd goal - open-minded piece of play from attacker, beautiful, open-mindedly... great goal MU 1st goal - the goalie SURPRISINGLY lets the ball out of his hands WITHOUT ANY REASON for that... are you blind guys? 2nd goal - NEVILLE SCORES ON his own goals with no one pressuring him!!! ... further comments needed??
