Honestly the 4-3-2-1 formation was an emergency thing and we'll most likely revert to the 4-3-1-2 next season. Our mid 3 are usually two creative mids plus the strong defensive midfielder. That's why I don't see both De Rossi AND Gattuso fitting into that lineup.

I'm almost certain some of these journalists read this board though. I put a post about De Rossi last night and all of a sudden there are statements saying that Carlo was interested in him. He leaving Rome WOULD cause the world to come to a halt though...so maybe..

De Rossi commits to Roma

Daniele De Rossi has stated that he would like to stay with Roma forever, despite the transfer rumours linking him with a move.

The world champion is contracted to the Giallorossi until 2009, but has been paired with a departure after attracting the interest of clubs the likes of Barcelona, Inter and most recently Milan.

“I would stay here forever,” said De Rossi to the Press. “I have always said this, this has been my dream since I was a child.

“It would be very difficult for me to imagine myself far from Roma, where I have all my friends and great supporters,” added the midfielder, who Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted he would like to have in his squad.

“I don’t even want to consider this option, I am here and I have a contract. Even if I had something to discuss I would do that with the club officials and not with the journalists.

“This is not the right time to do so or to talk about my departure. Obviously I am flattered to know that important clubs are interested in me, because it makes me feel like a great player, but I don’t want to think about these things now.”

De Rossi also commented on Juve’s return to Serie A after one year in the second division for their part in the Calciopoli scandal.

“I was disgusted by the scandal but now it’s enough, they have paid for their mistakes. I want to congratulate them for their excellent season, I only hope that next year there will be no controversy after Juve are given their first penalty,” concluded the Romanista.

“They don’t need him, they would have enough men to field three teams if they were to buy all the good players,” commented the Giallorossi tactician.

“We do not want to sell De Rossi and I am sure that the club will do all it can to avoid his departure. In any case he is an expensive player, if someone is willing to pay that much we could always re-invest the money, but the plan is to keep him here,” added Spalletti.

Spalleti's words aren't negative at all. Surprizingly he would be open to let De Rossi go if the correct ammount is to be offered. For me, De Rossi is now one of the best center mids in the world and can only get better. I don't mind Milan offering a huge sum for him. I'd be happy. Even De Rossi's words aren't that convicing that he would stay at Roma. He says he would stay, however if there was something to talk about he would to it with the club not the papers. These words in my eyes aren't that convincing.

About the formation, the 4-3-2-1 is definately the formation that we will use against the big clubs next season as well. With a healthy Ambro and in form Seedorf I don't see Carlo sitting either one of them on the bench, and the same goes if De Rossi comes. I don't think he will leave any one of De Rossi, Pirlo, Gattuso, Kaka, Seedorf on the bench so that leaves only one striker. Of course we will use 2 strikers to get some rotation going in some "weaker" games but I think Carlo's favorite formation at the moment is the 4-3-2-1. This of course all depends if Ambro stays healthy and in form and if Seedorf keeps up his amazing form.

All this being said though, I do wonder why Carlo is so desperate for a DM, considering we have Gattuso Ambro AND Brocchi. Maybe he really intends on permanently switching to a 4-3-2-1. Is this all to compensate for Ronaldinho's eventual arrival ? Then where does poor Gourcuff fit into all of this ?

I think nowadays in order to have REAL chances for winning both serie a and CL, a team needs more or less two equally good sets of players ... with the number of games we face these days and the pace of the game asking more and more from a physical point of view, the notion of having a well-defined "first" team and mostly average bench players beyond that, is looking more and more out of date and out of place IMO.

Take a look at this year for instance. We did so well in the final stages of the CL, when players feel more and more the heavy load of the season, because we basically managed to rest many of our starters ... that however was due to the fact that we were not paying much attention on serie a and for us it was basically a training ground to prep the team for Europe.

If Milan want to NOT have to chose between europe and Italy, I think we need several quality additions, as Carlo himself said in that press-conference and even then, most players will have the chance to play a good 30-40 games per season which should be the norm anyways ... and that's not counting the possibility of injuries, which may strike at any moment players like Pirlo, Kaka, Seedorf, Gattuso ... and then what? ... Brocchi may be good enough for teams like Empoli and maybe even Fiorentina but when it comes to playing Inter, a strong Juve, ManU, Pool, Barca, etc, etc, I think his performances leave a lot to be desired ... the same could be said about several other players we currently have in defense and midfield, mostly.

Personally, I think we have way too many defenders right now (11 or 12 depending on how we count Sergio), while we could use 2-3 more midfielders, who could relieve Pirlo and Kaka and offer some more width i.e. tactical options to Carlo (Ze Roberto, Ribery, Keita ... just some examples).
We also lack strength in the CM role (Pirlo's role, that is) and against certain teams that is eveident hence Carlo's looking into options like Emerson, De rossi etc.

A glaring problem is the LB position where we are playing Janku out of his natural position ... a LB like abidal or zambrotta or even Chivu is a must, I guess ... a CD as well, although I guess in the end we might just go for an easy transfer (Zapata) for that one with Kaladze staying and Maldini, hopefully, recovering ... I wouldn't exclude a world class CD though 'cause Maldini's situation offers no guarantees and Kaladze just had a horrible season filled with injuries. This may have worked this year when we focused mainly on CL but next year, when Serie A will be a target too, we may very well find ourselves stranded should Maldini's and Kaladze's problems persist.

zlatanov, I agree with the first part that in order to win Seria A And UCL you need 2 sets of good teams -- a great, and a decent, the decent one is used mainly for Seria a and well basicly you just switch it and stuff.. Any idea who exactly he will buy? I see the line up going like this.

The bench, he's only, what, 20, 21? One mroe year on the bench with spot starts wouldnt hurt.

And I agree with Mystik, which is why I think, in all honesty, we shouldn't get another dm so scratch de rossi out, besides comon we have gattuso, i wouldnt play de rossi over gattuso, sorry, they both probably equally as good, corect me if im wrong but dont lie-- gattuso brings the stadium to life.. lol check this out hilarious.. :P
