Van Der Saar would have easily saved it if it hadnt taken a deflection of Scholes, he was in the right position until that happened..

I've always rated Big Sam as a manager and must say he is doing exactly what i would have in the same position. Instead of doing what every guy in charge of the Toon has done since Keegan and just waste money on strikers he set about sorting out the leaky defence.

Out with junk like Bramble and in with players who not only have talent but also have a lot of hunger to succeed. He's bringing his scientists along too, even the famed Milan lab could probably pick up a trick or 2 from Sams techniques there
