It's a catch-22...the suspension is OK but UEFA are punishing the victim at the same time. That part is not right.

I agree with you that there is no pro- or anti-Milan UEFA. Perhaps it's wise to drop the discussion about G14.

"It depends on the seriousness of the deception, and the result of it," said the UEFA spokesman last week. "In the Mikoliunas case, a penalty kick was given and a goal scored. If a penalty had been awarded to Juninho, or if he had scored from the free kick, that would have resulted in charges being brought."

So... what makes Dida to be banned for two-matches? Coz Kalac was between the post and would have influenced the game?? Um... I think only 1 person on the forum will agree that...

Unfortunately, another factor is that Juninho's dive didn't even get an inkling of the aggressive coverage - especially that of the British press - that Dida's received. Milan are rightfully up in arms because his hearing was nothing more than a trial by media. UEFA were clearly swayed by public opinion.

As far as I'm concerned we're lucky it was "only" 2 games....but it leaves me wondering who's filling in. Those 2 games can hurt us badly.

That's a completely absurd decision by UEFA. Sure, there is no doubt that what Dida did was unsportsmanlike, but it wasnt another player who provoked him, it was someone who should not have been there in the first place!!

Celtic did not look after their security, a fan breached it---enough said. They should be punished for that alone, because the potential is always there for something worse to happen. If your security keeps getting breached, then one day it may be a lunatic with a knife who attacks opposing players. They should be punished much more than this to set a precedent about security at stadiums. Now what incentive does Celtic have to tighten up security? So what if this happens again, at most they pay the remaing half of their fine... That's absolutely ridiculous. They should have been forced to play some games behind closed doors IMO.

Now as for Dida, he has already destroyed his reputation as a fair player. That should be enough. What right does UEFA have to punish him? In football, you can get yellow cards for unsportsmanlike conduct----diving, arguing with ref, exagerrating injuries, trying to wind up opponents, trying to get someone sent off..But what Dida did was in response to a fan, not a player. What rules govern that?

What if the Dida "touched" the fan, and he fell over and acted as if he was shot. Does Celtic get punished for that? Does the fan get punished for that? Absolutely ridiculous decision.

I agree on this. Kinda reminds of Calciopoli where the press and the public opinion weighted more than the proofs.
The public opinion, since the begining, was clearly anti-Dida. Not many were talking about Celtic's fan as the guilty part. Influenced by this, UEFA failed to find the balance with the punishments.
I still believe that Dida got what he deserved. But now, compared with Celtic's fine, this looks like a harsh punishment (just like, if UEFA deducted -3 points from Celtic, Dida's ban would have seemed like a very light one). I'm aware that UEFA took into consideration the well, almost perfect, record Scottish teams have, but they made a mistake for looking at what happened in Celtic Park as two separate incidents. They should have looked at it as it was - one incident, where both parties were equally involved.

I saw the Italian paper headlines on Channel 4 and they mentioned things like 'Dida won't go to Uefa' and 'Dida won't say sorry'. Can anyone expand upon this?

Milan want Dida to go to Nyon to appeal against the decision. But apparently he doesnt want to, and is happy to see out his 2 match ban. Rumours in Italy say that the management aren't happy with this at all , especially as he signed a new contract and the Milan team will suffer in the next matches.

This is just heating the Dida & Milan breakup thats brewing..

i never understand why the ineterista thing is always put in the mix, why can't you admi that its a stupid act by a stupid human being doing it in the worst time ever to do.

Dida not going is a good way to repay the new £2.8 million a year deal he got in the summer!

Why wouldn't he go over there? Who knows, maybe he's embarrassed over the whole thing or he believes arguing his case would be futile. Either way, this complicates things. I can't see how he would be willing to jeopardize the rest of his Milan career.

I have always had the greatest respect for Dida but lately he has really been disappointing me.

I don't know about you guys but for me this Dida is not the same one as the Dida of 2-3 years ago. (not only talking about performance)

I seriously doubt he's happy that he was banned. Given the lack of information, my guess for now is that he's embarrassed enough about the dive and the resulting publicity, and wants it to be done with once and for all.

On the other hand, I won't go whole hog over a Corriere headline just yet, especially considering that it's probably little more than putting words in someone's mouth ("I won't go to UEFA"). They were the same publication who wrote about Chelsea's farcical Kaka bid and that Peruzzi had already sealed a deal to come to Milan.
