Seedorf or Pirlo

I often feel that Pirlo is deprived of what he actually is because he is stuck so much into the defensive midfield duties that he does not get a chance to get forward and express himself. The best I saw of him was at the 2006 World Cup in Germany where Italy played with two holding midfielders in Gattuso and Pirlo which lessened the burden on Pirlo and allowed him the freedom to move forward. I can understand that at Milan we cannot change our formation but what we can do is think of Seedorf as an overall player. See I admire Seedorf’s game up front but what concerns me is that he does not come back often like Gattuso which leaves Pirlo with a lot of work to do and stuck in the defensive areas (Center and the left side to be precise).
Now if we replace Seedorf with someone who may not necessarily be as good as Seedorf up front but a better player in coming back and helping the defenders at the left side it will allow Pirlo to only cover the central area leaving the right side to Gattuso and the left side to whoever the new player is. In this way with little burden on Pirlo he will go forward a lot more and he can do what he is good at. Plus the only reason why I see Seedorf needed currently is because we have a weak strikeforce and in every likelihood by the start of next season we will have a strong new striker who can spearhead the attack along with Pato with Kaka aiding the two I think it’s about time we seriously consider Seedorf’s future at Milan as he will be least needed then. Moreover this will mean more chances for Gourcuff as we often play the away games of champions league with 5 midfield palyers in which two players Seedorf and Kaka play in the attacking midfield role so with Seedorf gone Gourcuff can easily take his place as an attacking midfielder.

I seriously disagree. The best Pirlo/Milan we saw were the one with Seedorf/Pirlo/Gattuso, problem now that Seedorf dont have the legs for full games in that position anymore. In fact, our best game this year, against Napoli, were one of the very few we used that formation. With that formation we also dominated teams for years, something we seemingly have problems doing currently.

Seedorf must stay in Milan but he has to accept to be replaced sometimes ... he is from past, present and near future (still 1 year ?), he is not long-term future, so he would be a perfect champion if he was using his experience to help a guy like Gourcuff next year.

I mean by that: he plays the CL matches, he plays the first important matches against other "big teams" in Serie A (Roma, Inter, Juv, Lazio, Fiorentina), for the other matches, Gourcuff plays, and gradually plays a bit more in Serie A by playing some of the return legs against the previous other Serie A "big teams".

For Pirlo, he is perfect where he is, what I noticed is he does better matches when Ambrosini doesn't go too often forward (even if his runs are important like against Palermo), probably because he has to defend a bit less ?? I don't know ...

I'd say Pirlo benefits from offensive runs for his teammates as that gives him more alternatives and open up more spaces for him.

Pirlo is no doubt the air to breathe for Milan.but Seedorf is an important player too.so i won't let one of the them go but i had to choose (which is i hate choosing..except win or lose i will gladly always choose for win ) NO DOUBT that will be Pirlo between that 2 players.

Both of them are unique, but only Pirlo is irreplacable in Carlo's squad.

Pirlo is definetly the heart and soul of Milan's midfield, problem is that we need a midfielder to cover for Pirlo as well as venturing forward. I don't know about your opinions but I would say Jankulovski or Ambrosini or Thiago Neves, Guerci or Gourcuff.

i actually think pirlo is somewhat overrated. If we do end up getting Amauri or Dinho, i wouldnt mind seeing pirlo go with gourcuff taking over his role, when we choose to play him.

yea... Gourcuff.. whenever that guy defends he makes a foul... or even worse, he makes players onside(when Milan play the offside trap)

Pirlo? over-rated? you got to be kidding me..

how many times did he give other players a chance to go on goal instead of striking from outside the area(WC 2006 Semi final, Grosso's goal, a big example..).

what about his accurrate passes with both legs?

his crosses..

freekicks?(he's the best FK taker in Milan, and probably in Serie A?)

imo, he is NOT over-rated.

and i would take Pirlo over Seedorf or any other Playmaker(of his age)

Seedorf or Pirlo? Two heroes of our colors.

There is no necessity to choose.

The biggest mistake we're doing in the recent years is looking for a Pirlo like player to replace him. He's unreplaceable. It's like trying to replace the genius of Michelangelo. Impossible.

I think in those games we don't have Pirlo we must radically change system: pure 4-4-2 with two central holding midfielders, two good wingers (maybe calling Abate back from Empoli and sign Vargas ) and a big target man.

Gio I agree with you that our mistake is we look for direct Pirlo replacements over the years, it's near impossible to do. I don't really agree with the system, but I also think that when Pirlo isn't playing we should look for an alternative way of playing.

escalade what makes you say Pirlo is overrated?

Pirlo has to end his career in Milan !! lol

He is Milan !! You probably think I'm mad, but when Pirlo plays badly like this year, there is no more link between our defense, our midfield and our attack. It's like if we had 2 or worst, 3 different teams on the pitch.

ACMILAN1983 is true (argh, 2nd time I have to say that in 2 days !! lol), we have to find another kind of play when Pirlo isn't there, simply because Pirlo is the kind of player who is impossible to replace by putting another "lambda player". He is unique, like are Kaka', Messi, C.Ronaldo, Gerrard, etc (not a big list). When they're not there, the whole team has problems.

Which is a bad thing, mark Pirlo and Kaka and we are toothless. We need to be more fluid and have more options. As good as Pirlo is, I sometimes think his free kicks and corners are very wasteful, but of course it does not help that we lack little ability in the air, something we get punished for at the back all too often.
