Ambro heir of San Paolo?

Flamini's arrival probably means that Ambro will become a reserve player. Allthough he will make his fair share of games when either Flamini, Gatusso or even Pirlo and seedorf will be injured, suspended or etc.
This is most probably scenario but there could be an alternative...

I think we all agree we need some new defenders as well maybe it's a wacked idea but I think Ambro has the right profile to partner up with Nesta in the heart of our defence. He has practically everything what makes a good CD. Lots of defensive midfielders are frequently used as a central defender especially when they are getting a bit older so then can use their experience.
Besides some sources claim he shoud be the heir of Maldini captain position so why not make him the complete heir?
I'dd give it a try in preseason and who knows what might happen.

What do you guys think?

Well ever since we got Nesta we should've got another classy CD but we shifted Maldini to the center and it turned out a huge succes. We also got Stam, good transfer but he left a while ago and he even retired recently. So we could bit(h about what happend years ago. Or we could start a discussion about todays situation. I mean two replys but not a single argument pro or con.
Besides what does it matter if we discussed it 6 years ago? Situations change, players change, transfermarkets change, even posters change. I don't recall the thread in particular that your referring to. But what's the point of that argument that we talked about it so many years, I mean some posts spread over some days say the the exact same thing as the previous.

Why does it come back? well just because it's a valid option I think.
Besides we all agree we could use another CD but the question is who?
Before we got Nesta there were 2 really great players 'available' (Canna en Nesta).

I just want to start a discussion about why it could be a succes or why it could be a disaster.

I suggested since last season when Paolo was out, and Kaladze was really out of form, that Ambrosini could be a good CD... he has a great jump and header, and I think he could do well there...

What so special from Ambro are his superb jump and that he reads the game so well. Couple years ago, he tackled not so well that caused him often yellow cards but these days he tackles pretty well. But what I am afraid of him playing in CD is his pace. He is not so fast.

As they say, you don't hunt a deer running after it... you wait and let it come to you...

an experienced player like him doesn't challenge the 20 year olds to a one to one race... he positions himself, and goes for the ball with better timing than the attacker.

For example, and on the other side of the field, Pippo is not fast, yet he scores a lot because of his amazing ability to be where he needs to be.

It was not my intention to mock your idea, It was interesting that always this discussion is brought when we are in need of defenders.

On the argument, This switch on paper seems really worth of try,but how will it turn out on the pitch, thats is smth we might never find out

Ambrosini will never fit in CD, as he opts to help out in attack a little too much, but if he plays as a WB, that might be something else, he has good crosses, and a good shot...

and I honestly dont believe that Ambro will be the replaced by Flamini, simply because he's our next captin(done deal already, he's in Milan since what 1995?)..

and also Flamini wont be getting into the first-team line-up so quickly , he needs to adapt to the Serie A game style first

Carlo's suggested last season (I think) that we'd maybe try Ambro in defence, but I've never really seen it happen. He has the qualities to make a solid defender, though I don't see the need to push him back.

Well I think oppertunity calls for measures, we really could use a CD so why not look for one in our backyard. I don't claim he will be a worldclass defender. no body does, but we could experiment with the idea, some years back a promising attacking midfielder, the top goalscorer ever of the Italian under 21 was pulled back as an defensive midfielder. I seemed a rather funny idea but today Pirlo's the best there is. So why not give it a try

If he get's instructed to stay and defence I'm pretty sure he could handle that. The fact that he is our next captain is an surplus to pull him back like that he can play more matches. As I said it before I don't like to see Gatusso and Ambro to play together as midfielders. I can be good if we want to close the midfield of our opponent down but it's rubbish if milan has to be the dominant player. What I mean is we can play like that against big teams, allthough I don't really like it, but the inter game was perfect (untill Gatusso got substituted). Against smaller teams its harder coz we lack creative input. I haven't seen the Napoli game so maybe I'm prejudged but if you take a close look to our starting line up with brocchi, Ambro and gatusso well to be honest they are all way to similar hardworking, fighting but technique and creative impuls lacking players. So I don't think Ambro and Gatusso can play together and I prefer Gatusso as a defensive midfielder. What means that I my opinion that Ambro should be benched. And fill in when Gatusso or Flamini is injured, suspended etc. If he turns out to be a reliable defender he could play each game as a central defender and become a central midfielder when we need him. Like that he could be our next captain. Otherwise I would prefer a player that's untouchable. I don't think we should appoint a captain just on years of service but for his profile on and of the field however he should always the first choice of every coach and with our current squad their are players that do have the right profile. I do agree Flamini will need his time to adjust however if he can play during preseason etc he should be well adjusted when the season starts and since you only can adjust 100% when you play important matches I think he should be in our imediate starting line up.

I do see the need to push him back. IMHO we need a CD to replace Maldini, we need a new captain aswel and there for he might have to change his place to be on the team as much as he can...

If Gatusso should leave the club then it's a totally diffrent story but I would still like to know if he could do it.

I think flimini is a replacement for gattuso and not for ambro. gattuso seemed tired throughout the season, and got substituted more often than ambro .

Hate the idea or not but apparantly Max will get used as a CD in the following preseason games.
Galliani: “I also made a proposal to Carlo Ancelotti: try Ambrosini as a centre-back. I think Ambro would make a great defender, as he is strong in the air and very intelligent. We’ve spoken to him about it and he is ready.

“We should learn from overseas sides, as in an emergency situation they just change positions. After all, we did the same thing with Andrea Pirlo and you all saw the results.”

Well, as long as Nesta is the other CB, Ambro can be a great CB.
