Someone mentioned "current best", if that is based on the season that just finished and lets include all club goals (league, domestic cups and europe) then the "current best strikers" would be:

Torres 33 goals (beating records held by fowler,owen and many others)
Toni 39 goals
Del Piero 24 goals
Adebayor 30 goals
Benzema 30 goals

Droga only managed 15 in all comps this past season. Top world-class strikers should be scoring double that.

Some of you will point out that he was injured for most of the season. Lets cover strikers entire known club careers?

In his club career Drogba has only ever scored more than 20 goals in a single season in all club competitions twice. Lets see how many times the other strikers who apparently aren't as good as Drogba, managed to score more than 20+ goals:

Trezeguet 6 times
Henry 7 times
Torres 3 times (and he hasn't even reached his peak)
Del Piero 6 times
Toni 4 times
Eto 4 times
RVN 8 times
Sheva 7 times
Gilardino 2 times

World class strikers aren't born over night. They achieve that by performing and scoring like machines over many seasons. They hit 20+ a season consistently, not once in a blue moon. They are also match winners and can score from almost nothing.

Take Lampard out of Chelsea and leave Drogba behind and Chelsea would not perform. Lampard makes Drogba look good imo.

The stats speak for themselves, don't see how Drogba can be called a world class striker?

In the last 3 seasons at Chelsea, he has scored 40 leagues goals in the EPL.
The really scary thing is that Gilardino has scored 36 league goals in the last 3 seasons.

PS..the stats are from Wiki so might be missing a goal here or there.

Drogba is a kind of Toni: exploded when he was older ...
There are pros and cons to take Drogba:
+ he's powerful and enough technical
+ he creates spaces
+ unlike some said, he knows passing
+ he scores in important matches
- he scores in important matches (we need a guy able to score everytime lol)

About his mentality, nothing to say, he's not the devil some of people here want to make believing to others ... he was an example when he was in France, he has been/is a good guy in Chelsea, everybody writes about what happened with Ballack, but why do you put all responsability on Drogba ? They were 2 to argue, and Ballack just came back from a long injury, and before this injury, he wasn't a starter, he comes back and then wants to kick FK that are always kicked by Drogba ? If tomorrow Gourcuff who never plays comes to kick a FK that Pirlo was going to kick, don't you think they would argue too ?

It's Dida's brother lol !!

Same amazing reflexes but same poor mistakes, if you want to be afraid like we were last year and this year, ok, let's go for Gomes !! lol
(it's funny with that kind of GK, you can conced a goal everytime, a little more pressure for our guys and for us, it's exciting lol).

As for the Gilardino-Fiorentina rumour, I would be sad to see him go. However the move might bring out the best in him again, which would be beneficial to the whole of serie-a and the national side.

Assuming Sheva returns and gets back to his best, keeping Gila might be a good idea.
They played very well together in the 05-06 season, scoring 36 league goals between them (19/17). That season Inzaghi and Kaka both hit 14 or 15 league goals.

The entire side was shouldering the scoring burden and Sheva was leading the line.
Then Sheva leaves and everybody expects Gila to turn into Sheva, which was too soon and asked too much of him.

Perhaps if Sheva had stayed, Gila would have had less pressure and could have become the "parma" Gila at Milan.

Perhaps a reunion would be the right medicine for both of them?

When the 08/09 season starts then we will officially know who our strikers are. Until then the debates continue.

He maybe wouldn't have scored 25 goals again but 20 per year was enough lol ... I think what you say is clear, he wasn't ready to be our main striker (and look at what could happen in Fiorentina, the main striker, I mean THE star of this team will be Mutu, so less pressure, a step back for Gila, but a good step back I think for him). Anyway, nothing official, he's ours and hope they'll keep him.

FIFA has agreed the law of "6+5 players" in teams (6 domestic + 5 foreigners, or contrary lol), which means that Inter, Liverpool, MU, Arsenal, Barcelona, etc (clubs that play with many foreigners) will have to change their teams entirely !! lol

So we can still wait a little to buy ...

Ten Clubs Want Vargas – Agent
Catania midfielder Jorge Manuel Vargas is one of the most sought after players in Europe as his agent Carlos Delgado confirmed in an interview with the ‘Daily Post’.

Delgado spoke about his client’s future which will be decided in the coming days or weeks due to the Peruvian player having many suitors, who all have to discuss the transfer with the Sicilian club first.

"To know his future, we will still need some more days, because many teams are interested in Vargas," explained the player's agent to the British newspaper.

Delgado also revealed the names of these clubs interested in his client and the price at which Catania would be willing to sell him.

Agreed, he is a late bloomer. The 06/07 season he was amazing in the EPL but since then he is too in-consistent to be called "world class" or the "best" was what I was getting at.

Compared to some of the names listed, he does have better attributes however most of the "lesser" players score more consistently.

I don't mean to take anything away from him, but form is temporary and class is permanent.

Ok, so Milan haven't reinforced to some peoples liking over the past two seasons....does this mean that we will do the same this term?

This is the first time I have heard Galliani state the number of players expected to arrive...and still we are worried.

Posters want us to buy buy buy, now now now....gimmie a break. We will buy when we are good and ready, and when negotiations are favourable to us.

Its your club, but its not your money...we seem not to care how the club spends...as if Berlu is at the "Abramovitch" stage of his career....he isn't...he is looking longterm, while all some of us want is for him to spend £150M in transfers every season, or at the very least, this for this mercato.

When clubs behave like that, they become Chelski and Inter like...might get some domestic success, but tend to fail at major knockout competitions to "teams" ofen worth half as much...

The 6+5 rule may have been passed by FIFA, but I think its against EU law, and Platini has stated publicly that UEFA won't break EU law to please FIFA....however methinks some compromise will be achieved over the medium term.
