remember in season 2006/2007 when sheva gone and no one seemed coming to replace him ?
how much milan spended for a RO at the edge of summer transfer window because we lacked of strikers while no one closely to deal with in days to come. 15 million for a player who had just recovered from injuries, right ?

no need to hurry in market i agree. but dont be so slow for chasing our needs like we did within the last 2 seasons
spot on! Silly season is yet to begin so there is no rush needed yet I think milan mangement has lot's of work 2-3 transfer are not enough and with the EC and OG coming up it wouldn't be easy to deal with some players for a certain period. I still believe that management will do their job right!

At start, this topic was "who can we take ?" ... it was cool, we were able to discover some players.

Now, this topic turned into a "optimistic opinions vs pessimistic opinions" ... that has no sense to still argue, optimistic people like me who think that our management will do what has to be done won't turn into a pessimistic point of view because some people say everytime that our management works poorly etc ...

And from what I can read, people with a pessimistic point of view won't change their minds too and will still want, even if we get the best players in world (I'm pretty sure of that, even if we get Ronaldinho, Torres, Montolivo, Zapata, Mexes, Vargas and Alves for example, some will say "poor management" etc), our management to be sacked, and I have only one thing to say to these people right now: if you really want that, become shareholders, then you'll have power if other shareholders listen to you ...

Like this topic has become a bit "stupid" (the topic turning to an argue ... read before lol), I won't post anymore here, no interest.

Our best transfers was by far the Kaka, Pirlo and Seedorf ones. €10M, €10M and swap with Coco. JDT for free was also a great move, even moreso when we sold him for €10M two years later.

I was more referring to the Nesta deal as a successful "big signing" as opposed to a "superstar who came for peanuts" - that was the context And I still stand by my statement that Nesta was one of our best signings ever. What you are talking about are the best deals we have made

Well i wasnt alive, but i can say Maldini was our best signing, or costacurta or Baresci or Tossati.
even though the were all destined for milan, the basically played there whole careers here, and all combined to make up the greatest defensive line the world has ever seen.

about nesta signing, i remember that time press in many occasions said that milan closed to sign cannavaro while inter was one step lefted to put on paper on nesta.
then things turned around. we signed nesta and he's priceless in milan while cannavaro became 'you know who' in inter

No Keoke, they won't.

The past several years have shown us that Milan are a club that are not serious in the transfer market!

We have only bought players over 30, and will continue to do so.

Maldini and Nesta will play until they are 45, and then, when we r in Serie B, we will then try to rebuild.

Galliani and co are not doing anything in the market....waiting and waiting it seems....and forwhat? An old washed up party animal like R99? Has beens like Zambrotta?

They are just laundering the clubs money for their own pockets!!

We can't even sign a goalie for goodness sakes! We have to sell Dida or Kalac first! Who will buy them? No-one! We will keep them, and Inter with Mourinho will humiliate us in the derby!

He will bring Drogba, Lampard and Quaresma to Inter...and they will win both UCL and scudetto!

Flamini? Who is this? He is going to fail! He isn't a star! He has barely made the French national team!

We need Benzema, Vargas, Zapata, Mexes, Alves, Drogba and Nasri, or we can be assured of a relegation fight next season!

Haven't u seen how the other big teams are snapping up talent? Inter, Juve and Roma have all brought in superstars...while we sit and do NOTHING!!

In Europe, Real and Arsenal are buying all the available talent! Not to mention Barca, Man U and Chelsea.

The mercato will end and we will be scrambling for the same type of old refuse from other clubs that we always do.

Did I leave anything out?

Good luck Gila...just don't score on us please.

Right now I am kinda confused on who to get Ronaldinho or Eto'o. A few seasons ago I argued that Ronaldinho woulnd't fit in and Eto'o is the ideal candidate to take Sheva's spot. Now I'm have doubts after I seen how bad Eto'o has performed late this year.

Here are the arguments-

- Eto'o is younger than Ronaldinho by 3 years
- Ronaldinho would be bought for 20m euro (for sure it wont be higher because of the Article 17 rule), Eto'o would be bought for 25-30.
- Ronaldinho seems to be friendly and knows our players well, his attitude is also very good as he is no primadonna like Eto'o.
- Ronaldinho would bring more money selling T-shirts, and season tickets, and will bring more fans than Eto'o would. The idea of a new Ka-Pa-Ro is giving me butterflies after how the last one worked so well.
- We really do NEED a player like Eto'o, but I think Ronaldinho can do that role pretty well. As long as we play with Seedorf-Pirlo-Rino we will be ok, we cannot play with 2 DMs again.

I am edging more towards Ronaldinho and I really think that he is going to come. We got Oliveira because I personally believe we just wanted to improve relations with the agent, Berlusconi always wanted Ronaldinho. Milan and Dinho have been flirting for a few seasons now, it's bound to happen. After all the recent quotes from De Assis (his agent) I really believe that we will sign Dinho...I just hope we dont sign both Eto'o and Dinho. I'd much rather Sheva.

Wow am I glad that Gila is gone, its like I've been cured from AIDS.. Good luck Gila, hope he does well for the sake of Italian football.

I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about. Our first 11 this year, when fully fit, was without a doubt one of the best teams in Europe. It has been for the past 5 or 6 years. We had the same first 11 this year as we had last year. The problem is that the squad lacks depth. Our run in the Champions League last year was a perfect storm; Our key players hit form at exactly the right time (Kaka/Seedorf/Dida/Gattuso/Pirlo specifically) around the Bayern game, and sustained it towards the end of the season, culminating in the 3-0 win over Man U. Had we suffered from the same bad luck last season as we did in this one, we would have crashed out against Celtic or Bayern, and struggled to make 4th. Our good luck with form and injuries last year hid the lack of depth outside the first 11, and our bad luck this year exaggerated it.

We do have a problem with depth, but our first 11 was fine. Of course, now that Dida and Ronaldo are out, we need a new goalkeeper and striker to replace them. Cafu and Serginho will be replaced by Zambrotta and another full back. That would mean that our first 11 next year is:

4321: ???, Zambrotta, Kaladze, Nesta, Jankulovski, Ambrosini, Pirlo, Gattuso, Kaka, Seedorf, Pato

4312: ???, Zambrotta, Kaladze, Nesta, Jankulovski, Ambrosini, Pirlo, Gattuso, Kaka, ???, Pato

No one can argue that this first 11 on its day is not a first tier team. The ??? will be replaced with quality young(ish) players, I have no doubt about that. Lloris would be a wonderful signing, Etoo would be a perfect fit for our game. The triangle of Kaka, Pato and Etoo would be a bolt of lightning thundering above an impregnable Milanese defence.

Now we have two problems. 1) A lack of depth, and 2) a viable alternative to our Pirlo-centric formations (the 4321 and 4312).

Ancelotti has proven that this tactic is brilliantly balanced against top sides that alternate tempo and attempt to play football, but as we all know, its useless against small teams that lock up. The reason is that the advantages Pirlo gives you with distribution and vision aren't really what's required against those teams, since they defend so deep and he's so far away that his long balls won't work without the space to run after them.

The only way to break down these teams is with physical force, and wing play that spreads their defence wide and opens up space. For that to work, you need quality wingers and a strong target man. Milan has none of these. Not even one quality attacking winger (Serginho is gone). Its pathetic. We don't need the best wingers in the business. We don't need Messi. We don't need to build our team around world class wingers. All we need are two wingers willing to sit on the bench for the big games, but players who can provide Ancelotti with the versatility and options he so sorely lacks. Having Bonera push forward to try to cross the ball to Ambrosini is just sad.

The lack of depth problem is easier to solve, and they're on their way to doing so with the Flamini signing, which I believe is a brilliant signing. A couple more like that and the depth problem is solved. The squad needs to rotate, and Flamini can take over from Pirlo, Ambrosini or Gattuso. 4 more versatile players are all we need. Again, not world class players, just good ones.

Sorry I went so long, but i'm just trying to point out that all this talk about buying world class players is not what this team needs. The balance in the first team is there, the talent is there and the harmony is unparalleled. What we need is depth and versatility. Not a revolution. I trust that Ancelotti and Galliani know what the team needs better than all of us. Being great means you respond well to failure, not that you never fail. Give them the benefit of the doubt and be patient.
