He is overrated, Dru.
Ok, i admit that i don't like him at all so i may not be objective, but whenever i watched him he was bad, awful actually. Owned in one-on-one's, bad positioning, only good in air. Now, i'm aware he's not crap, but he's overrated and it's like that exactly because he made it to the NT. But how did he make it there ? How many quality CB's there were in Italy in 2006, apart from Nesta, Cannavaro and Materazzi ? Name me one. How many quality Cb's are there now, considering that even Nesta is not there ? Completely out of form Cannavaro and Materazzi (both of them +35 yo) are in front of him in the picking order. He's 27, he's having his best years, why isn't he a starter if he's good ? Why did he play in Palermo until he was 27 and moved to bloody Wolfsburg ? Why Inter, Juve, Milan, Barcelona, Real. Manchester, Bayern, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Lyon didn't even try to buy him ? I'm also against the terms "Juve material", "Milan material" but i'm sure that Barzagli wouldn't have been an improvement over anyone in Milan's, Juve's or Inter's defense and i believe that's why none of them wanted him.

Anyway, these boring stories are something like a private message sent by Giuly after the first TV Show from Domenech's wife (Domenech wasn't French NT coach), Giuly apologized and said he didn't know she was married ... for Pirés, it seems like Domenech's wife is an ex-girlfriend from him lol, for Mexes, I don't know but rumours were saying there had been something between both and for Trézéguet, nothing related to his wife, just football and probably persons not liking each other ... It's just "people" news, nothing interesting for football ... |

Barzagli is too good to be on the bench. Not good enough to replace Kaladze. That's my point. Edit: If we sold Kaladze, then yes, I'd consider Barzagli. I'd rather have Zapata in that circumstance, though. But since the Georgian is still our starting CB, along with Nesta, I don't see why we should tear our hair out for losing Barzagli. Quote:

This is the kinda crap that Galiani always says. "Players are too expensive." It is what it is, put up or shut up Galiani. Didn't he learn anything from last years transfer window. It doesn't pay in the long run to be cheap and horde your money. I realize management doesn't want to be taken advantage of in the market, but really I haven't heard any other team's management name drop as much as ours, and then turn around and complain that their targets are too expensive. That is a stupid statement for a team that has only made one significant signing in the past couple of years and who have just been selling. Everyone one can see our managements pattern in the market and are starting to block it, I'd do the same if I were them, because eventually it will affect the product and then the bottom line...it's business. We are fast becoming a laughing stock in the transfer market and it's showing on the pitch. So Galiani, dig in those pockets pull out the money get the RIGHT players and lets keep it moving. @ Jeff Re your comment in the Lloris thread - If management doesn't know the RIGHT target from just A target they are in worse condition then we think and need serious .Therefore, I do believe that they know who the RIGHT target is, but are not willing to purchase him if they feel the price is too high, filling him with a less expensive alternative, or just not purchasing anyone at all. |

Regarding the notion of being 'Good enough for Milan':
The whole argument is false. It doesn't make sense because we're not starting from a blank slate. Imagine Milan starting next season with no players at all. If that is the case, then having this argument makes sense. Since we can start from scratch and build the team around all the available players regardless of any history and cohesion the team has already achieved. But we're not starting from scratch. We already have a team, and we have a commitment to the players. A financial commitment and an investment in time, love and harmony. We have built an identity through the years of a team forged around a robust midfield, and attacking full backs; A style of play that should continue as a result of the transfers we consider. We can't simply identify the best players in the world, the best young promising talent, and then force them into our system. That's what Chelsea does. It doesn't work that way. Unless you want to overhaul the team, you can't replace the integral elements, and seeing as how Ancelotti seems certain to stay for the near future, I don't see that happening. You need to identify the flaws in our current squad and also the opportunities that would arise should certain elements or players are added. Our system works. The fundamentals are the best in the world. We don't need to yearn for a big name signing just for the sake of reassuring ourselves of our dominance and greatness. That vanity and insecurity is deadly. It will only lead to chaos and a loss of identity. Every player can be 'good enough for Milan' if he has the qualities required in a position that those qualities are asked for. Etoo is needed. Zambro is needed. Essien is not. Messi is not. The investment in those players will raise our game, for sure, but it will come at price. Both financial and personal. We can raise our game for less (better investment) if we get someone we truly need. Someone good enough for Milan. |

Take it easy Warro, let him indulge himself. the amount of players that failed and succed is enormous, everyone got someone right and wrong. that is also ignoring that these successes and failures may have depended on the ove itself.
I could easily blow my own trumpet by naming a list of players that I predicted correctly about. I'll pass today. ![]()

We don't need to waste our money buying players we don't need. We need a GK, a world class FW, and few more squad players. We will get all of them. If you want to bathe in the glow of the false pride that comes with big name big money signings, you're following the wrong team, bro. The last big money signings were Pippo, Nesta and Rui. Since then the team has successfully built a working cohesive unit. The club is a business, and its a family. Its not a reality show. If you start expecting a big prize every season, you'll always want more, and you'll always be disappointed. I'm proud of Galliani and Berlusconi. They don't give in to pressure or impulses like they used to (Rivaldo...) Ronaldo was a risk worth taking. So was Oliveira. Baptista in my opinion was the one that got away last season. We could have used him. The team is not broken. It just needs to freshen up a bit. Edit: I also thought Oddo was a mistake. They must have had their reasons, and maybe the better options were too expensive. In those circumstances we do have a right to bemoan the management. At the time, though, Oddo could have gone either way. I'm sad that he never really got going the way we all hoped. Same with Janku. Last edited by brk; 28-05-2008 at 14:45. |

Barzagli is a player very similar to Kaladze, big, strong and slow. Just that Kaladze is better and unlike Barzagli he doesn't marshall the third worst defense in serie A. Let me add that Palermo's goalie was also one of the best rated players in serie A last season.

Yes, and to make lemonade, you need lemons. What are you saying? Of course we need players. The point is which players. What are the gaps that need to be filled. What are the elements that need to be replaced. Gila: It was obvious since about April that Gila was leaving. Ancelotti almost seemed like he was punishing him on that bench... |

1 GK 2, DF (CB or WB), another one more creating midfield ( As Rui Costa was) and 2 Strikers 5 .... + Flamini 6 is not so out of date...
