Your points are not valid and poor arguments for the 35M euros Torres.

Those are possible explanations rather than actual ones. Why didn't Torres score over 30 times a season? You will have to ask him that question to get the whole story on that. The point is that, Torres was pretty consistent with his performances during his time in Spain. Unlike a lot of players who looked great at a young age and end up losing momentum as their career drags on. Besides, it's like what I said before, Torres doesn't have to be the perfect investment to be considered by Milan, all he has to do is be better than the investment we made. He was better than Oliveira and possibly Pato, therefore he deserved recognition and consideration for the purchase.

Seriousely, the number of passes, the possesion of the ball, miles you ran, its all interesting to see but its not THE thing. The thing is to see the wayplayer influences the game and palyers around him, to FEEL it, not to measure it anyhow in any way! To have sance of a talent, smart movement, usefull running and passing and so on... Croatian striker Olić runs more than any striker in europe but he is too dumb for real football and is a useless player in big matches, aldough he ahs good statistivcs for HSV. Knowing about some players value is a matter of instinct, not maths.
Fair enough; I still think that's a very american phenomenon; I don't see it a lot in EUropean football; you are righ that Americans are fanatic about statistics; they are kind of 'objectivity' which I think they are missing something.

Perhaps, just perhaps, they are simply unwilling to deal with uncertainty, the 'feel' that you mentioned.

And that is the player we need. Maybe Gomes will someday become that kind of a player and then we should buy him, but now Milan needs INSTAND powerfull striker that can win games by himself.
Warro, any response to that? I really do'nt know Gomes well, but I feel that what mrki said is exactly the opposite of what you just said... do you have stats over how he played for the past 2 or 3 years?

Ya, but surely he can't say something like "we should have signed Zambrotta n years ago and we regretted signing Serginho", right?

Besides, I still remember how Serginho has torn Bayern Munich apart (for the CL campaign we won in 02/03) as well as goals against Inter Milan.

It's difficult to judge whether Serginho did better or not; what is sure, though, is that Serginho was impt to MIlan because of his speed and contribguted signifncatly to our CL campagin in 02/03. No longer, but I'm still grateful for that.

It's important to take stocks from both perspective...

What Mrki is saying is that Milan should have signed both of them. He's not saying that Milan should have bought Zambrotta, not Serginho.
They played in completely different positions and one shouldn't exclude the other.

The way Galliani said it, it seems that he forgot that back in 1998 Zambrotta wasn't a left winger. Actually, Zambro never ever played as a left winger. In 1998 Zambrotta was a MR.
Galliani said it like they were covering the same position and Milan had to make a choice which one of the two to buy.

Galliani said it like they were covering the same position and Milan had to make a choice which one of the two to buy.
This is what Galliani said according to channel4 :

“In 1998 we were very close to signing Zambrotta and again in 2006. In ’98 it was practically a done deal.

“We had a big sum of money ready and we came to an agreement with Bari and Gianluca’s father.

“Then Bari president Vincenzo Mataresse told me that Juve had offered a certain amount that we had to match.

“But we were already in talks with Serginho and so we left him to go to the Bianconeri.

So, Milan were dealing with Zambro AND Serginho and Milan almost got Zambro but Juve came with certain amount of money that Milan HAD TO match. What I get from it, that Milan couldnt (or didn't want to) match the money that Juve offered to Bari.

We should see that case in 1998 : What kind of players Milan actually wanted? (An) attacking midfielder(s) or certain position of winger(s) (left or/and right)?

It makes sense to me that Galliani talked about Serginho as both of them are attacking midfielders. It seems that Milan first option was Zambro and second one was Serginho. Or it could be also that Milan wanted to take both Zambro and Serginho if Juve didnt come with amount of money that Milan had to match.

So, it's actually not completely different position as both of them are attacking midfielders. If Milan wanted to buy Zambro but opted to buy DC, then it would be strange. But the players are in same position : attacking midifielder.

I dont know why this case caught attention from some people. If I am not mistaken, Juve did offer huge money to Bari to get Zambro.

Hmm, now that we have bought back Boriello, do we really need need a target man? I wonder whether this means the deal is in the bag for R10, because with Boriello/Inzaghi/ and potentially Pato able to play as the loan forward, we would need another AM to rotate with Kaka/Seedorf, rather than another "big" forward...

IMO Milan need a new and inproved version of Pippo...an "in-box" striker...and if he has touch and thechnical ability, all the better, but his primary role (with the assumption that Pato is going to start) is to be on the receiving end of balls played into the box.

Gomez fits this bill...(even if mrki doesn't agree )as does Drogba, but I don't want Drogba at Milan (after his ridiculous performance in the UCL final)so maybe I won't be objective....I also think that Drogba's "support play" (as I have mentioned before, is woefull), and he is too old etc.

I have no real preference for who comes at the end of the day (as long as its not Drogba ), be it Gomez, Adebayor, or Benzema, wouldn't want the traitor back either, but as long as who we buy delivers the goals, I am cool.

No stats Jeff....sorry!

The issue of the defensive cover is one that I am less concerned with to be honest...because this term, despite the injuries, the defense was not our problem. Scoring goals was...now that is not to say that I don't think we need defensive cover, I just can see mgmt not feeling that as pressing as reinforcements in the attcking dept....now that raises the question as to Boriello's true situation...will we just buy him to resell him? Or is he part of the picture? That is what also needs to b considered in the scheme of things.

In the end, let's get the players we need for our problem areas..AM, CD, LB(?), GK and ST.

Total: 89 games, 39 goals in league. Not the most impressive but still quite good. The only issue is he doesn't get over 30 apperances (excpet 04 -05) and there seems to be some improvement over the year...
