Jim, the problem with players coming from the Russian league is of different nature. As you correctly said, there are players in these ex-USSR leauges who have enormous quality but the fact that they play in not attractive leagues that noone watches, makes them underrated.
But even though they're underrated, their prices are still sky high. In last 5 years some of the world's richest people bought some eastern european teams and they invested more money than Berlusconi or the Elkans invested in Milan and Juve in the same time period. The wages they offer to their players are unbelievable. Mrki knows that Darijo Srna has the quality to play in every single team in western Europe and yet he's not leaving Shakhtar Donieck. Why is that ? Because none of Barcelona, Milan or Manchester United will pay him the wages the Ukrainians are paying him. It's two years already since me and Oksana talked about Arshavin here. Some were sceptical and tought we're overhyping the anonimous Russian but this year in UEFA we've seen that the guy is real gold. Why a playmaker of such quality plays in Russia and not in Liverpool, Juve or Inter ? Because these teams we'll never pay him not even 50% of the wages the owners of Zenit are paying him. If Shevchenko was some 10 years younger and he started his career sometime in last 2-3 years, it would have been close to impossible for Milan to buy him. The only way to buy these players is if the players themselves want to leave and lose their wages. Like it was with Škrtel. He was getting much more money in Zenit than he is making now in Liverpool but it was his choice to give up on the big wages and that's the only reason why Liverpool got him at the end. And who knew Škrtel before he went to Pool ? How many knew Vidić before he went to ManUtd ? These guys could have easily kept their high wages, they could have kept playing in Russia and stay anonimous. But they decided to take a risk, to play for less money and at the end the risk payed up and the world did see that there are top quality players in Russian or Ukrainian league.

Mrki, signing a 32 million(euro or pound or w/e) doesnt mean he's the best player in the world
![]() yes, I admit, he's a good "RB", but he certainly isnt the best out-there... I also believe Zambrotta is a better choice for us, even tho its not a long-term signing... moving on to another topic... Milan does need a new CB alongside Nesta as indeed, Kaladze has lost his form (this season atleast) and he cost us more goals than he saved us... isnt it better (if we dont buy a new CB) if Bonera plays with Nesta as CB and Zambrotta+Janku(ye ye, he's not good w/e, but in the euro08 it was his first match in a while... besides, do you prefer Favalli ? ) on the flanks?![]() Last edited by _Ace; 08-06-2008 at 07:37. |

inter have now joined the race for eto'o... they also plan on getting quaresma and mancini.

And i just want to add that Škrtel and Vidić aren't Russian and it was easier for them to leave.
It's much harder to buy Russians. They play at home, in their own country, they are highly popular among their own people and they are getting payed much more than they will be in western Europe. Noone is fool enough to leave all this behind. Like with the Italians in the past or the English now. Why leave home and big money for some foreign country and less money ? That's why it will be hard to buy Anyukov, Jim ![]()

Ancelotti, has stated yet again, that the only team he would leave Milan for is Roma, and spalleti seems to be on the verge of leaving roma for chelsea. I say why not make a swap, i mean i love ancelotti, but when i look at spalleti, he is simply great, and expecially if we do not land zapata, spalleti, may be able to bring mexes with him.

spaletti is better than anchelotti????????? i don't see spaletti's silverware anywere and moreover i cheer myself up by watching the video of spaletti slitting down in his chair helpless when his team were losing to manu !!!!! as for the east european players ... i think this is the same issue with asian and egyptian players ... strange indeed

mrki sorry i don't understand how is boruc with simic to celtic and i think you must care lol .. because etoo is simply not suitable for us he is not as powerful in the air (nor on the ground) and he is trouble maker and i consider him not hungry for football he plays very cool and waste chances in tons ... same is adebayor he is strong but coldblooded and irresponsible also he will not create chances for himself which we need ... i must say i can see either drogba or gomez our best solutions for the CF position

Seems u r a gambler payne...I wouldn't trade Carlo, with his winning record @ Milan for n e one at present.
I need to see Carlo fail with a truly world class team (in every position on the pitch) before I would say: yeah let's try so and so.... Not to say that Spaletti is a "so and so" he is an excellent coach, with a nice brand of attacking, flowing football, and indeed, I would consider him for Milan if Carlo were to leave...but Donadoni or another ex-Milan player (Rijkaard, MVB) would be favoured more by Berlu et al.Plus, I am anxious to see Carlo managing a "full deck" of first-class players, as I think he will impress....and big time. Chelski under Mourinho held us, or beat us a narrow 1-0 in some pre-season games back in the day...and I didn't think Carlo was "out-coached" at all...even if those were jus pre-season games. This summer's friendlies (since I am on that note) TIM tournament, Berlu trophy etc, will be eagerly perused by urs truly...as they can be a snapshot of the forthcoming season (or not) ![]() What's up with this guy we just got from Empoli? Serginho's replacement Galliani has been quoted as saying...is he any good?

We have palyed our best football under Carlo with Rui-Kaka'-Sheva tridente. With Pippo, Tomasson etc...Seedorf. Without strong and powerfull forward.
Barcelona has played brilliant football with Ronaldinho-Eto'o-Guly/messi. From what I can "see" an attack consisting of Kaka'-Eto'o-Pato would be extremly flexible position wise, and the fastest tridente in the world. its a tactical question or attacking variations, but I think we need to choose our forward carefully as the rest of the setup will depend of it, and not slightly. I will stay with my statemant that Dani Alves is the world's best right back, and the price Barcelona payed for him does not have anything to do with my statemant as I've said it way before this transfer happened. Simply, from what I can see from him I cannot see from any other player in that position, except from young zambrotta ( which is past ). Zambrto is an EXCEKLLENT purchase by Milan, no doubt dough, my dream transfer. But we were talking about Alves, and I stand by the claim that HE is the best right back in the world. Now Im off to the pub with my friends, Croatia plays in 2 hours!! P.S. What Tony29 said about Srna is 100% true. Absolutely a player that can play in top clubs, and would even improve more there, but that could be an minus of ambition or a greed for money...I dont know. Shame dough, he is a good palyer with spectacular crosses and fighting spirit. ( not a natural fullabck dough, cant defend as he should be ).

im not saying i want him to leave, im just saying if he were to decide to go to roma, i would prefer a switch with spaletti. besides i dont like rikaard, and MVB just got ajax's job i think. Tossati imo would also be a great option, as he was a milan player, and is now an assistant.
