Would this be considered a penalty kick
Hey Milanmania faithful, I have a question that requires your expertise. I was playing soccer today and I was involved in a play that I think should have resulted in a penlty kick to me. The ref didn't call it as a penalty, and as rsult our team lost the game. As mentioned, I think it should be a penalty kick, but I'm not 100% sure. Here is what happened.
The game was in the later stages and I had just received a through ball from my midfielder. I had beat the first defender but still had a defender at my ankles. The defender was tugging at my shirt enough to impede me, but not enough to pull me down. I took a shot with whatever remaining ability I still had but it went wide and out past the end line. After I shot the defender who was tugging at me mistimed his sliding tackle and hauled me down. Because I was taken down illegally andwas in the box I expected a penalty to be called, but the ref issued a goal kick. Whe I asked the ref of his reason his answer was that because the ball had already been kicked out the resulting tackle did not constitute a penalty kick. End of dissucssion. My question is simple....should it have resulted in a penalty kick? I think it is yes, but I'm not sure. I would be grateful for anyone to help me out. Thanks.

No, it is NOT a Penalty Kick... once the ball is out of bounds, the play has ended...
if you kicked the ball out, and after it left the playing field, your opponent hits you it will be up to referee to decide if that's an agression, or just a consequence of the play... if an agression, even though he will not concede a Penalty Kick in your favour, he can still give him a yellow or red card... and reassume the game with a goal kick... take as a example the many times referees prevent defenders and attackers about pulling each other before a corner kick... if he seems them pulling an opponent BEFORE the ball is kicked from the corner, he can just tell them not to do it... if he seems them doing WHILE the ball is moving, then he has to whistle and call it a foul.

I agree no penalty kick, but he should have gotten a card since he was clearly to late imho. But some refs don't like to give cards. Since it could cost your club money.

You case is similar to what happened to Iaquinta in World Cup 06 actually ... the offside is whistled, and then Kuffour if I remember tackles illegitimately Iaquinta (and could have injured him), but the referee did like if nothing happened because he had already whistled.

Pulling shirt is considered a fault, so I think it could've been a penalty if you didn't continue to kick the ball. Pippo will choose to fall down if he's in your place

Since he was pulling u from behind and u were going forward, I would have just fall down on top of him. That way the ref will know how hard he was pulling and I get a chance to land my weight on him and give him a couple of elbow shots while I was on top.

You should have taken the dive mate...then it would have been a pk.
Broke my clavicle in a similar situation, except that the keeper took me out as I took a volley (the tackle prevented me striking the ball with enough venom, and the wing back cleared it off the line)...and the ref? Well, he was looking somewhere else, and blew his whistle for a goal kick. So sometimes, even when its cut and dry, we dont get the call...in your case, it wasnt a PK IMO, but had u dived....

Well. The second the opponents tugs your shirt it is either a free kick or a penalty. It doesn't matter if you fall down or not. It is a dead ball.
This is why I like Italian referees. They penalise it. |

They don't though. Otherwise it wouldn't be such a common thing on free's and corners in Italian football.

I find that Italian referees punish shirt pulling a whole lot more than the CL referees, the Spanish referees and especially the English referees which seems to have lost contact with sense and reality.
