yes well de rossi is much better than gattuso or ambro (although, thats not saying much as i rate de rossi as probably most dynamic DM right now). I'd like to see seedorf return back to midfield or a player like him. someone box to box who is more dynamic to take pressure off pirlo and open up the field to his amazing passing

I disagree. Though Bonera can be found flat footed sometimes when a player runs at him, he's not a slow defender. At the very least he's got average speed, if not above average.

I disagree. Speedy players have almost defined ManU this year and last year.....and Arsenal's invincibles too. Our positioning on the pitch has been thrown our of balance because of Seedorf's conservatism and Pirlo's abyssmal form. Remember the year that Barcelona won the CL how Arsenal ran all over Juve? I doubt that Wenger is as masterful a tactician as compared to Capello or that Arsenal's players were more positionally sound than Juve's.

Sadly the game is turning more into a spin class than a stroll at the gallery. But it would be foolish on our part to refuse to change with the times. These days a superbly skilled player like Riquelme is ignored for a speed demon bone crusher like Essien.....in days gone by the opposite would have been true

I made a mistake in my previous post... I said Pirlo needs to be protected, not predicted... heheh.... well these new youth players will add to speed to our line up. 5 of the 6 players that have been signed/or brought back for Milan are in their 20s.

just checking.... most sites are saying van der vaart is available for 15 mil pounds....... UM HELLO!?

We absolutely need speed, & thrown in some creativity while were placing the order. We need to stretch teams horizontally to open up some space in the middle. That's why as much I appreciate wing backs, midfield wingers not only can cross the ball but also attack the goal close to the 18 when the opportunity presents itself.

That's why Pato even though he's a striker (IMO) could be just as useful withhis speed and creativity at the wing position & Ronaldinho although a second striker could do the same. Quaresma, Ribery, Aaron Lennon and others would be excellent choices as well.

listening to tim vickery on world soccer daily. (follows south america for bbc international) talking about hernanes and exact comparison was pirlo, with perhaps more pace pushing up. I know we were linked w/ him a while ago...

That would be a smart acquirement... I wonder if KAka knows Hernanes... seeing that both play(ed) for Sao Paolo.

I do agree that speed matters a lot in so-called modern football, but I don't think speed is the only answer. There are teams with speed (e.g., Barcelona) but didn't do well. The key with speed is whether your palyers are speeding in heright direction .

Jeff, I think unfortunately this "so-called modern football" is here to stay (just like that darn rock and roll!). Players aren't going to go back to being a bit fat, out of shape, or slow. We've got to be aware that this is the trend. Barca wasn't fast this year, that was one of their problems. Madrid is lightning fast on counter attacks; Netherlands was blazing fast on their counter attack goal, it was in like 30 seconds from when they cleared it off the line to when they scored. It has to be a part of the game, otherwise with such strong players now, it is too easy to be chopped off the ball or be taken out of position in the box.

Lets see if Mario Gomes puts on a better performance today... I was dumbfounded why he hasn't been performing up to par...

They looked dangerous with their speed everytime, and Ambro, Pirlo and Gattuso were nowhere to be seen on most of the counters.

I really hope germany loses big time. they've screwed me on my fantasy team and i can go back to hating ballsack. plus, i bet all my cash on austria so there ya go.
