I have no doubt that Benzema will be a top 3 striker in the world for a long time.

That would be because he got a injury and missed a whole season.

Talking about every big name striker on every big name club and then buy another player from a smaller League.
Sheva,Weah,Pato,Van Basten,Kaka,Savicevic can someone answer me tell what leagues these players came?
Sheva = Well known fantastic player in UCL that scored a hat-trick IN Barcelona.
Weah = Best striker in UCL before we bought him.
Pato = True in this case.
Van Basten = Another era and I dare you to find a more coveted striker than him that year in history.
Kaka = Was not instead of another striker or anyone else.
Savicevic = EC winner.

Maybe.

But now he's worth 15-20 million. Not 30-40million. Eto'o is worth 30-35 million...

Indeed, at present Gomez failed to appear and to show his skill, but he plays very similar to Toni, both are athletic and don't need that much chances to score. I think, he would be usefull adition to our current attack.

I must say Gomez during these Euros has been awful overall. I’m not counting that against him, as the euros alone aren’t enough to judge a player, but certainly these performances raise doubts and questions. What’s disappointed me most was at Stuttgart he was a very confident player at all times (good and bad), which impressed me. Now his confidence is totally gone, and he looks incredibly fragile on the pitch. Without the confidence in himself, for certain he’ll be another Gila, and so without doubt this is probably the most challenging point of his career.

I doubt anyone will disagree with that, but buying him is very difficult right now, and competition is fierce. I’d be shocked if we got him, but overjoyed.

Huh?

Anyways, did anyone here about Ronaldinho and that offer from the Crapalaxy as I call them... the team here in LA is a great place to end a career and go into modeling as David beckham has done... but even for that Ronaldinho will have to trim the weight. I see Beckham on cologne, in TV ads, on bill boards... seriously...

While I think Ronaldinho may be past his best... it would just kill me emotionally to see the guy destroy his entire career to settle in the LA pub team as I call them.

Look here, you and me, we don't determine what a player is worth. The market does, the buyer and sell does. With this in mind I am sure Benzema is worth close to €50M. He is a great talent that could be on the forward line for a club for 10 years or be sold for the same sum (or more) later. (Barring injuries or somehow him failing) He is a player that is most likely someone that will just become better. He is also very complete as a striker.

He is no sure deal of course, NO player ever is.

IMO, him and Eto'o are the best we can find... maybe together with Villa.

Let's not judge the guys on this Euro, we can with some of them (defenders like Thuram or Materazzi, thanks to this Euro, we know they're finished or will be in trouble to play several good matches in a row), but for someone like Gomez or Benzema, they're young, it's their first big competition ...

I know more about Benzema than about Gomez, but for Benzema, he didn't play 50 matches yet with French NT, and he is surprisingly a starter against Romania who played with 9 defenders + Mutu ... idem for Gomis, Domenech put him on the pitch when the team was losing 3-1 against a confident team of Netherlands, not in his usual place and only for some minutes, how can you judge him ? lol

And for Gomez, finally, I'm going to speak about him, he's just out of form in this Euro, it's obvious has has something special, he can create occasions, he is fast, he seems technical, he just lacked some luck ...

My view though, is that just because a player has a bad Euro, doesn't necessarily mean that he won't be a good aquisition.

And the converse is also true....one good Euro performance does not guarantee a striker will score 20+ goals in a season.

I agree that this stage is a good one to test a target's mettle...but its not the ultimate criterion.

Good/poor performances will affect the player's price though......and while Gomez hasn't impressed, I don't think his talent is a "flash in the pan"...his stats over time say otherwise.

Sad to say it, I prob would still prefer him over Drogba, but maybe not over Adebayor.
I agree with Warro. Gomez didn't suddenly become bad...nor was Podolski always= god. The national Team formations are a bit of a bother to young strikers like Benzema, Gomez even Torres. The players that are best suited to them will fluorish.....notice that the VAST majority of known goal-getters are not that prolific....Torres has 1, I don't think Gomes/Gomis/Benzema have scored yet. Even the experienced players with known reputations like Anelka, RVN, Klose.

Spain and the Czhec rep. aside I think it's fair to say that the VAST majority of goals have come from the midfield

Remember last tournaments Milan Baros and Cassano- both players not knowh for high goal tallies in their leagues were the leading scorers...I think Wayne Rooney was also close to the top. While I think that the Euros SHOULD be an important yardstick to measure a player...to desire a player or cast one away soely because of his performance in Euros isn't scienctific. I wouldn't dump Gomez or even Benzema just yet

I always saw these short tournaments as something dangerous when it comes to valueing players than something really valuable. A little form or just plain old luck can make such a big difference. Not to forget that often there are players that do really well in these tournaments because they played little in their club. Being rested really helps.

That said...

The players that impressed me have been Luca Modric, David Villa and Bosingwa. Two already moved to EPL...

I for one is glad that Gomez and Benezma are not doing well, b/c it only means their price tag as well as other players price tag are going to drop.

I was thinking the same thing...about the price tag dropping.

I read the story below and my first reaction is NO WAY too valuable & a fixture on our team...

http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?ac...ad&idsel=18648

but then I got to thinking this may be the perfect time to sell him cash in big and grab Montolivo or Cigarini from Fiorentina or Parma respectively.

A year like this is good to take a few risks as we won't be playing in the CL and the pressure won't be as much. Both players are accustom to the Serie "A". Montolivo has already played in UEFA CUP and Cigarini can get his feet wet in it this year to gain experience for CL in the future.

We will see both of these players rise in price and our management probably try and haggle the price down in a few years for one of these players. Just invest in them now and save us all the frustration, as they both look(ed) promising.

Personally I disagree with selling someone like Pirlo, unless Italy qualify and he plays amazing. That way his price tag is HIGH.

Anyhow, lets go along with what you are saying, if Milan is to sell Pirlo, they will also sell Gattuso, Seedorf, Brocchi(they are anyway) and Emerson too. As Ambro will be the only one to stay as he brings leadership. To replace the 5 that are leaving, I think Milan must get Hernanes, Cigrani, Dessena, Montolivo and Ongelaar(just his size is awesome). If Milan really went out and did that, I will be speechless and congrats the board for really stepping up and making the changes and prepares the team for a new Era. That won't happen but it is to dream. And pls don't say Ongelaar is old b/c he is 28 since comparing to the five that will leave Milan, Ongelaar is still younger than all of them.
