My view though, is that just because a player has a bad Euro, doesn't necessarily mean that he won't be a good aquisition.

And the converse is also true....one good Euro performance does not guarantee a striker will score 20+ goals in a season.

I agree that this stage is a good one to test a target's mettle...but its not the ultimate criterion.

Good/poor performances will affect the player's price though......and while Gomez hasn't impressed, I don't think his talent is a "flash in the pan"...his stats over time say otherwise.

Sad to say it, I prob would still prefer him over Drogba, but maybe not over Adebayor.
I agree, none of the young talented strikers who were expected to shine have performed.

This is the first "big" tournament for Benzema and Gomez for their national teams. The whole country is watching them, which is a lot of pressure considering their age.

In fairness to them, the German and French teams have not been playing well which is also a contributing factor to their performance.

Pirlo deserves a second chance. He has been toxic waste this year but that's what makes us Milan. We are a human/humane club.....Sheva has two bad seasons with us and Gila has been.....well gila from day one. We kept the faith with many of our players through the hard times and we have the successes to show the worth of true loyalty.

Loyalty is a quality that works in your interest in the long term....There were many times Seedorf, Pirlo, Inzaghi even Ambro and Gattuso looked expendable...and how well they have proven at one time or another how much they appreciate wearing red and black....Pirlo is utter rubbish atm and what disturbs me more than his form is his apparent disinterest in playing in general but in true rossonero spirit I vote that he be given a chance. If we get Quaresma or another attacking mid like Diego we would probably be able to rest him and see what he can give.

etoo/drogba/adebayor or suazo/crespo/adriano? Would inter sell us one of their strikers? I would prefer one of the much cheaper options from inter than the other three. I would rather to have suazo than etoo because suazo is accustomed to serie a and is much cheaper. They both play in a similar way, the only difference lies in the fact that etoo has made a name for himself thus is much pricier. I would prefer suazo because he would have less pressure on his shoulders, is not as injury prone, and adds pace to our attack.
I would much rather take crespo than drogba. although crespo is a year older, he has played in the italian league and in milan. Drogba would be an expensive gamble, while crespo would come very cheap. They are both very similar strikers, and since they bring a similar skillset, i would rather take the cheaper and more serie a proven one, crespo.
I am NOT a fan of adebayor, i feel that if we buy him , we will be taking a huge risk. I would much rather take on adriano since both players represent similar risk, but adriano has played in serie a and is brazilian.
As far as gomez is concerned, he is a great striker but one cannot help but notice his similarities to gila. He would be a good invest if his price goes down, but if he doesnt get of to a good start and has low confidence, be ready to curse him like you cursed gila.
Also, im not sold on podolski. prior to this tournament, i thought he was garbage, but he has been very impressive. if he could bring this form to milan, he would be the perfect replacement for seedorf. However, euro cup generally has a negative impact on the transfer market for buying teams, as it boosts some players value, thus having a domino effect. Player's value goes up due to performance with their country, clubs pay big money, and then they realize maybe they shouldnt have half way through the season. remember dellas? he was so coveted after euro cup, 3 months afterwards, no1 knows his name.

You now want Engelaar and defend him (whereas nobody said anything yet lol) ... you probably want him because he does, for moment, a good Euro ?
He never did anything in club yet, or some people would have spoken about him sooner on this forum I think.

Pirlo is and will remain a Milan player, no way to see him leaving ... if management was doing what Gabriel said, I would be more than disapointed and would probably stop watching Milan (and so football) for one/two years (or one/two matches lol).

Anyhow, lets go along with what you are saying, if Milan is to sell Pirlo, they will also sell Gattuso, Seedorf, Brocchi(they are anyway) and Emerson too. As Ambro will be the only one to stay as he brings leadership. To replace the 5 that are leaving, I think Milan must get Hernanes, Cigrani, Dessena, Montolivo and Ongelaar(just his size is awesome). If Milan really went out and did that, I will be speechless and congrats the board for really stepping up and making the changes and prepares the team for a new Era. That won't happen but it is to dream. And pls don't say Ongelaar is old b/c he is 28 since comparing to the five that will leave Milan, Ongelaar is still younger than all of them.
Gabriel489, I have to agree with you. We are too reliant on Pirlo as our playmaker (not a good thing) but any immediate replacement might buckle under the pressure. I would like to see a young player in the Pirlo mould brought in to learn from Pirlo and to be used as a Pirlo sub against lesser teams or in the 60th minute when we are leading 3-0 etc.

Pirlo had a terrible season and is more than likely physically and mentally drained. In the first match against Holland, he looked tired in the 1st half-already. Still he was one of Italy's best players in the game.

I didn't see the whole Romania game, just the first 20min or so. I think he did far better with a younger midfield around him.

With a younger midfield around him and only playing once a week, that might be whats required to get the old Pirlo back next season

I saw that Drucurl said few pages ago that Zambrotta and other wingbacks are not reliable on defending at top level. Dru, you know I respect you, but Zambrotta is a world class defender and maybe the best fullback in the world in 1 on 1's defensively. Alons with J.Zanetti who is a player I adore, aldough he plays for Inter. Well sportsmanship needs to stay alive even at the wars like Milan-Inter

Abate is a good move by Galliani. So far Flamini, Zambrotta, Abate and Antonini have all been good moves, I have to say this. Abate is a fast and wIDe player, who I think will be transformed at RB position. I have seen him play only few times, but Tony29 said some nice things about him and I believe in his knowlegde.

Not, the next thing we MUST do is to buy Boruc for lousy 10mln as you can all simple see that he is a world class keeper. If he was italian, french or Duch clubs would jump for him. The way he plays 1 on 1's is remarcable, and the thing I respect mostly is that he is a fighter and a leader. Dida has 4mln a year, Emrson also, ronaldo and so on... do not be sdtupid and buy BVoruc, its simple. Every defence with a great keeper looks 20% better instantly!

EDIT:

Aldough Im a Croat, and maybe I cannot think straight about our players, but I hope you people now see what kind of great palyer Modrić is. A master is technique, passing, player vision and , ALWAYS TH MOST IMPORTANT THING - a responsibile palyer with brains that can play as DM, LM, RM, CM, and AM and runs 10-11 km per mtach. We missed that, and Naletilić ( the man I was talking about few times, who works closely with Corvino, knows Galliani and so on...) said that midfield consisting of Pirlo-Modric-Rino and KAka' would be unbeatable. For me personally it is a great shame Milan didnt decide to invest in him as we would solved problrm of speed, passing in CM, and Seedorf replacement vith young and versatile palyer. Dough non EU and expenvice...

Oh Geotav, don't u notice the 5 players in and 5 players out that I mentioned was just something that I went along with the notion of selling Pirlo, which I also stated I would not do it. As for Engelaar, well, it is only fitting that we get one dutch player for another. In case you have not notice, what I wrote on that reply was just for good fun.

I agree ... it's maybe more important to get a GK this year, even if that means we'll wait next year to buy a striker. Because a good GK brings confidence to our defenders and so they are better, don't try to do too much, simply, like you said, they play better and look better ...

I believe I read Pirlo himself saying he wouldn't mind a change. I wouldn't sell all the players you mentioned...as the core of our experienced players would be gone. Letting one go wouldn't be that bad if other members of the team wouldn't mind.
If Pirlo wanted to move and we could secure one to the two that I mentioned I think it might be a move worth seriously considering as we would most likely get Eto in return younger proven and very much needed.
To get a quality player you have to give up one of two things...

1) Money (which our management is very reluctant to part with) or...
2) Another quality player

I'm not saying that I don't value Pirlo or that he still doesn't have something to offer the team. I just think that if management is not prepared to spend big money for needed players you have to sell players who have value and buy younger players, with promise before their price goes places that you're not ready to go.

Actually, I agree with some of the targets you chose: Montolivo and Cigarini, but not to replace Pirlo etc, I mean, we would need some players like that nowadays but to play with Pirlo and co ...

My personal dream about transfers: bye bye Seedorf, welcome Montolivo and Van Der Vaart ... both can play in the offensive midfielder position that Seedorf plays for us.

Not just Pirlo, I think our team replies on individual's brilliance rather than attacking the other team as a whole. As much as we hate to admit, we are a counter attk team. We defend and defend and once there is room, a long pass by Pirlo and a run by Kaka which will end in a goal by Pippo. The thing was, we got injured last year and on top of that, players to me showed no heart and passion in most of the games, ofcourse some of you just say they were tired and overused, I believe that too.
But lets face it, if we actually played the season the way we played against Inter(2nd Derby), and Juv(2nd time)even though we lost, we would have won most if not all of our home games and most of our away games.
I believe changes are needed, the players really need to show that they want to win again. When you think about it, when we won CL two years ago, we did not have Emerson or Pato in our team. And we only have Oddo and Ronaldo for half a season, yet, we played more games and won CL. Pls dont tell me guys like Gattuso and Pirlo were not as tired and overused two yrs ago than last.
Anther thing, now i am a firm fan of needing more speed in the team, but didn't we beated fast teams such as ManU, Pool, and others two yrs ago with the same so called aging, slow players that we fielded last year.
Yes, injuries were a factor last season, but u must also admit that some players just did not seem to care much about the sunday games at Genoa or Empoli.

I am a huge Dutch fan even b4 this Euro. And as a Dutch fan I had been waiting for VDV to break out and shows the world that he is one of the better AM in the world. The time have come. I think when he left the Dutch League, people were against him abit, but I thought it was the best move for him. As the German league is not as tough as Series A, not as fast as EPL(he was injury prone back then) and not as one on one as Liga. And now, he has arrive and I wish him all the best and that he would stay there.

I think we still have a chance to sign him as he is more than capable of Pirlo, Seedorf and Kaka's role.

theres no way id sell pirlo , he's our main man in the midfield. if were not getting ronaldinho for him who can provide the same quality passing and free kicks, then theres no point.

I don't think we have a chance ... we never were linked with him and this part of the team isn't the one that interests (or seems to interest, who knows, maybe a surprise ?) the most our management nowadays.

a chance means if we want to sign him, we could, as his price tag is not like some of the others AM now.
