no signings
http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=741896
Just as i expected, what utter nonsense, the rhetoric of galliani for the last 3 months was always suspicious to me, as i remember what he done last summer(nothing). Wake up fellow milan fans, we aint getting any super buys, mr galliani will only get freebies or over 30's, just look at his first two signing flamini=free (great signing buy the way) but if he wasent free we would never have had him, and zambro(over 30) galliani is just kicking dust above our eyes with his meaningless comments about new players. I fear we will struggle to qualify for the CL next season too |

goal.com ratings.... of russian game.... 3 players we should look at
http://www.goal.com/en-US/Articolo.a...enutoId=742372 Yuri Zhukov (8.5) A rival for Daniel Pranjic for the best left-back at Euro 2008. A threat from set-pieces and gifted with wonderful technique. An asset defensively and offensively. Andrei Arshavin (9.5) Loses the mark for his booking but otherwise faultless. As close as the perfect game as one can play. Resourceful, efficient, lethal - he made up for missing the previous two games. Exceptional talent. Roman Pavlyuchenko (9.0) Was guilty of missing chances as the game ebbed to a close. Could do with adding a ruthless streak to his otherwise well-developed game. Links the play well, committed and selfless. Arshavin is probably most talented but 1 we'd need least. Pavlyuchenko and zhukov wont go for much. My eyes will be on them vs. netherlands for sure!

I must say I really despise Galliani.
And I don't believe this is just silly season tactics. I honestly think we do not have the resources to buy players. We have to admit that. Berlu will not invest unless he absolutely has to. And how come no other team is whining about fiscal austerity? Inter always go about their business and even Fiorentina, Napoli etc. have all strengthened. I honestly hope we sign a star striker because we have never really filled the gap left by Shevchenko. Furthermore, Ronaldo is now injured. We pay very high wages to our players. I think we should just offload the absolute crap in our team first (you all know the names). I think having 16 quality players is more than enough for Serie A. I know it has been repeated before, but I really don't think this is a bluff. I honestly hope Galliani was not lying about 6-7 players, but he probably was. This is what he does every summer. He prances around , makes a lot of noise, and signs either players that aren't up to snuff or he just plain misses out on players. Berlusconi needs to do something. Look at the passion Moratti has for his team. Ok, he is sort of a fool, but you cannot fault the man for his passion. Inter have a fantastic squad. Sad sad state of affairs. |

@giancarlo
Good points Giancarlo (even though I always imagine you hunched over and red in the face when you type these posts). ![]() However, the issue is that Galliani starts the summer off very positively, and around this time he starts sounding the death knell for Italian football. I don't know if Berlu instructs him to do this, but it gets very irksome. The signings we have made so far--I would say I am happy with. But Galliani has done this whole thing before: whine, and miss out on players. My only hope is at the end of the summer, Berlu will come in and buy who we need. Can anyone else confirm this? Both these players seemed like targets of Milan in recent months. Zhurkov was class today, he is like Daniel Alves but on the left flank..he is a complete player. Arshavin also impressed me. |

Behrami for Sale
Ok let me pour water on any hope of getting him 1)Not experienced enough 2)Not Milan material (everyone's favourite) 3)Too expensive (read "not free" ) 4)We have enough left backs 5) Ibrahim Ba is coming back In other news: Am I the only one that thinks that goal.com's article on where David Villa will go is a clear indicator of the fact that Galliani has been reading Fidel Castro's guide to easy foreign transfers? ![]()

Say what you want but Galliani is right about the competitiveness of the Italian teams on the transfer market.
We've discussed this many times but i'll repeat it for those who don't know yet. The taxes in Italy are much higher than in other countries. With a very simple example: If Milan pays 60m eur to the players for their wages, they have to pay around 120m eur total after taxes are added. Barcelona, if they also pay 60m eur to their players, they will pay a total of 80m eur after adding the taxes. The difference (for one single year) is 40m eur. It's a huge difference. Barcelona can actually add 3m more to their player's wages and still pay the same total sum as Milan. And the players will certainly choose Barcelona's wage offer and reject Milan. But i still don't understand why Milan are spending so little. One member mentioned Juve and i find it strange that Juve are spending much more than Milan. Yes, it's not like Juve made some great transfers, but still they spent more. On the other hand, when you see how did Juve do with the bought players, you could maybe understand why Milan aren't taking the risks : Quote:
Almiron for 9m, Tiago for 13m, Iaquinta for 11m, Criscito for 7.5m, Molinaro for 3.5m, Andrade for 10m, Nocerino for 4m. They payed total of 58m eur and if you think about it, you'll see that only Iaquinta (as a sub) can be counted as someone who helped Juve reach the 3rd place. Juve made the result with the players they already had in serie B. Del Piero, Trezeguet, Chiellini, Buffon, Camoranesi, Nedved, Zanetti....they were already in Juve. Ok, then Sissoko was bought at half season and he did great, but the point is still the same. Since Juve couldn't get the best players in the world, due to the problems Italians experience with the wages, they were forced to buy average players and these average players couldn't do much, as expected. This year Juve are again spending a lot. 23m for Amuri, now 17m for Alonso and more to come. Both Amauri and Xabi Alonso are very good, but are they the ones who can take the team to the next level ? Milan on the other hand chose to be careful and spend big only for players who could take you to the next level, players like Pato. I really don't know what else to say. I see the logic in what Galliani is saying and doing but i'm still surprised why the board won't show at least some more activity on the market and enter a bidding war with the other giants at least for one single world class player.

Tony29:
one reason is that Milan have a fairly good starting XI in place. They did not have to dismantle their team after calciopoli. Perhaps they still don't feel the need to invest after missing out on the CL. ![]() I think Italian teams have a simple philosophy when it comes to big players. They pay their bandieri high wages. Inter-Ibra, Roma-Totti, Milan-Kaka, Juve-Buffon/Del Piero. Then the rest of the players are paid competitively. The difference is that Spanish teams pay almost all their players fairly well. I think Milan are the only Italian team who also do that, so that's why they are hesitant to spend much more. |

I took a long break and went to the beach... sorry about earlier.
I am under stress right now for reasons related to grad school... I understand your concerns about your team. There are some things the management MUST DO and these include: get a strong, powerful striker, an attacking midfielder and maybe one or two more young defenders. It is concerning that management did not get anyone these past few years. And it was their fault we couldn't do better than 5th. |
