I think Eto'o is better than Adebayor... Adebayor is extremely wasteful... Eto'o just seems more refined on the pitch, and knows how to perform in high pressure situations (like with the CL final... ironically Barca vs Arsenal several years back... as he was the one who scored Barca's equaliser).

Galliani gives hitman update

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has given an honest appraisal of the strikers the Rossoneri have been linked with in the summer market.

The Diavolo need a new hitman to add to Brazilian teen star Alexandre Pato and Marco Borriello, who has been brought back from Genoa.

Galliani has stressed that Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor is the only name left on the shopping list, but that hasn’t stopped a host of other names being linked to San Siro.

“Some people are talking about Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, but I’m not sure that he’s better than Borriello,” Galliani explained.

“Karim Benzema costs too much and Lyon aren’t selling him. There has been no approach for Adrian Mutu and he is a second striker – we have Pato for that position.

“We haven’t inquired about Antonio Cassano but like Mutu he is a second striker anyway.

“Chelsea say that Didier Drogba isn’t for sale and then there’s Samuel Eto’o for whom Barcelona are asking too much and his wages are far too large – they aren’t compatible with an Italian club.”

Galliani concluded by discussing the impossibility of signing Barcelona’s Brazilian star Ronaldinho.

“It’s not true that we are considering a bid for him,” he said. “He has a ridiculous offer from England and it cannot be matched.”

yep it was posted like 10 pages ago!

Arshavin and Schweinsteiger eh? Would be nice to play with the 4-3-1-2 with Schweinsteiger taking the left midfield spot of Seedorf and Arshavin playing alongside Pato up front!

But who are we kidding, we are Milan..if the likes of Real, Chelsea, Man Utd, Barca come in for these guys, how can we compete?

Eh I'm a bit sad about that, but at least he is not playing in England. I hope Arshavin would consider Italy...

Assuming we land this big name striker and Ancelotti's known hesitance to play teenagers, whose to say that Pato will even be a regular in the starting XI?

If we play with 1x striker, the new big name will almost certainly start leaving Pato on the bench. If its crunch time in the game, Ancelotti will then bring Pippo on instead of Pato.

In theory Pato only got the amount of game time he did due to the injury crisis.

As for Paloschi, he might not be at the same level as Pato is currently but I also believe he should stay and can contribute valuably to the 1st team.

In the one of the away games (I think) we were offering nothing in attack. Paloschi came on to partner Pato and suddenly our attack came alive and we looked far more dangerous.

Pato/Paloschi upfront with proper service/support from the midfield could set serie-a on fire next season or it could fail miserably. You never know.

Same with a proven big name striker, could solve all our problems or be a big flop.

Its a catch 22 situation.

I just hope the potential big name striker doesn't cause Pato to stagnate on the bench.

I may bet that Pato play on the rotacion like OM,he will replace Kaka, seedorf or be second type in 4-4-1-1!!
Pato has great tactical options, whith his amazing skills and magic he can play anithing in attacking options!!

I actually think that if MIlan get a big name striker, we will play with two strikers instead of one.
actually, my concern about the team now has more to do with Gk, CB, another atk mid(as I think Seedorf has passed it), and the last piece is a striker

I agree on Pato's skills, and after Kaka is probably our most dangerous player.
I'm just worried about the amount of game time he gets if we buy the big name striker and Pippo isn't injured.

I'm kinda hoping we play a more attacking formation and user 2 strikers.
I would like Pato's name to be 1st one written down on the starting XI list.
If we don't buy a big name striker, then that money should be invested into other areas.

With regards to the whole Adebayor rumour, here is an interesting article about players leaving Arsenal and what the results were:

Milan should keep Abate.

This is a perfect oportunity to get 1 or 2 players that will be an integral part of some future CL and scudetto winning teams.
Since Milan obviously can not buy 5 world class expensive players (and Dru should finally accept this) i believe what Milan should do is what Juve did last year.
Not playing CL is an oportunity to give the youngsters a chance to prove themselves. Juve did that and they failed with Palladino, Nocerino, Molinaro and Criscito but they got Chiellini. They made a mistake when they loaned out Giovinco because he'd be another star and a sure starter by now, but nevertheless they did get Chiellini and with a little luck they could have gotten one more young player, thus save big money and still get 2 world class players.

If Milan don't spend 50-60 or more million euros now (and it looks like they won't) then the problems will be bigger next year because you'll still need to spend these money and probably even more because in 2009/2010 Nesta will be 33/34, Gattuso will be 31/32, Ambrosini 32/33, Kaladze 31/32, Inzaghi 36/37, Seedorf 33/34, Pirlo 30/31 etc.

The obvious solution is to give the youngsters a chance NOW, when there is no CL presure.
Pato is a sure bet for the future. This year will be the year when he'll completely secure his starting XI spot.
But you'll need at least 1 or 2 more such guys and that's why i believe that it's extremely important to give playing time to Abate, Paloschi and maybe even few more and then hope that one of them will make it.

Of course, all this is only in case Milan don't plan/can't spend huge this summer.

Neither is Nedved. I don't know why the people are so cruel and call them divers.

I think it is important we get a squad that is able to contend for the Scudetto. This could include younger players. I also think it is important we reinforce our ranks. I think that the older players will have a part in the team for years to come. However, I also think we must settle for players aged 22-30 right now as far as other positions... I strongly think we should get Eto'o (27), Schweinsteiger (23) or Arshavin (27)... we have to strike a balance and have a very mixed team. Getting an entirely youth based team will destine us to failure because of consistency issues... but we must have room for the future....

How is Inzaghi a diver? I'd like to hear it. So why are you laughing at that comment?

Either way, I still think we should sign another goalkeeper too... some have forgot about that... a good goalkeeper can save our team and sometimes even get us a full three points when it is a close game... a bad goalkeeper can cost games.

I'm up really late tonight... but left the computer on. Have a good night everyone (depending where you are).

TBH, in last 2 seasons, especially in the last one, he's like a different player, but he was hillarious in Juve and in the first 3 or 4 seasons with Milan. He was diving all the time, trying to cheat for a penalty.

Your idea is great, Tony but with Carlo as the coach, they wont get chances to really develope only in one year. Carlo will give chances to real talented players (wolrd talented players) like Kaka and Pato. I dont think Abate, Paloschi are players in Kaka or Pato level.

Absolutely, but not more than 1 or 2 youngsters are in Kaka/Pato level and Ancelotti knows that he can't find 11 such players just like he knows that some less talented players will need to play.

It's not only Ancelotti who does that. Everyone in Italy (top 4 clubs) does the same thing.
If you think about it, Juve did the same. Ranieri gave a chance to all the youngsters but he gave them 6 months or 1 year because Juventus, just like Milan, can not afford to continue with an experiment for more than a year.
Criscito failed and he was loaned in January, Nocerino failed and he was sold to Palermo, Palladino failed and he's about to go to Genoa, Molinaro was bad and Juve are looking for a new LB..
Chiellini impressed in his first season as Cb and he's in Juve to stay.

All Ancelotti needs to do is to give the youngsters a chance. Then it's up to them if they'll take their chances or not.
Kaka and Pato did so they stay. Pirlo did it, Gattuso did it and they became all time greats.
Gourcuff didn't and he's out, just like many before him.
Paloschi did take his chance. If you keep him and he plays great as he did last year then maybe Milan won't even need a new attacker and you save +30m which can be used for other areas.

I'm saying that this is a perfect time when Ancelotti can afford to give a chance to more youngsters.
