There is a "gentleman's agreement" in place amongst the "big" clubs in Europe, with regard to Article 17, which basically states that none of them will use the article...
This though, is not going to last. The declarations of R10's bro...are what anyone who has followed the saga already knows...its no real secret...even Barca's mgmt kno...they are just basically being stubborn, in the hope that he will opt for Man City or Chelsea's higher wage offers. I am indifferent to this news, as I always believed we were after him, despite the denials etc, and competition from other clubs.... I was however having a discussion with another avid fan of the game, who said that Article 17 only works in the absence of any other offers from any other clubs...Tony29...can u enlighten me as to whether or not this is true...ie what are the limitations of Article 17 insofar as bids by other clubs are concerned? I disagreed...but before I bet him $s, I want to know how that really works...

This article explains the rule perfectly. What your friend said is not mentioned at all in the rule. If a player wants to use the article 17, then these things are a must: 1. Three years of the contract must pass if the player signed when under the age of 28 or two years if he signed when 28 or over. 2. The player must give his club formal notice within 15 days of the last match of his club's season (domestic or European, whichever comes later) in order to leave that summer.

I am not smart guy, thats why I asked here
![]() I only remember what Inter did. Couple years ago they did what Juve did (or similar) to Mutu. What I only remember is Inters' GK, Julio Caesar. He was also loaned out before joining Inter. In that time, Inter bought more than 1 non-EU but registered only 1 and loaned the rest(s). So, I think the club who got Mutu on loan took the non-EU spot 'for' Juve (which means for me that in that time Livorno hadn't registered other non-EU player in Summer 2004 before signing Mutu and also couldn't register other non-EU player in winter transfer window in 2005 after signing Mutu). I still have question. ![]() I dont know if Crespo had EU passport or not when he came to Milan. So, if for example Crespo hadnt EU pass in that time and Milan wanted to sign him in summer 2005 (one year after Milan got him on loan from Chelsea), could Milan sign him and then buy another non-EU player in that year? Or let say that Juve wanted to sign Crespo, could Juve also sign another non EU-player after Juve signed Crespo? We all know, Crespo had played for one year with Milan before 'coming' back to Chelsea in summer 2005. |

No club out of the G14 will use the article 17 clause. There's a gentlemen agreement about that, as far as i know.

Like Giovanni said, no-one from the big clubs will use that article 17. Only the newspapers use it for their stories.

The issue is, they want to force him to go where they want, and in this day and age of player power (they are no longer property, thankfully) they cannot do that. ![]()

Either that, or force clubs to consider their players contracts more carefully.
