I hear u Gio...but if Laporta loses...do we still get him? Will he still be anxious to leave? Is his relationship with the club and fans past the point of no return?
I agree that we are playing hardball, and have the stronger hand...but the election for me is/was too much of a risk... But as I am at pains to point out on this board...they usually prove they know what they are doing, and as such deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I don't know why he said that but maybe it was to bolster his own position. I have nothing against Galliani like some around here, and I respect him and think he should stay put. Either way, Laporta surviving the vote was critical for Milan's chances in getting Ronaldinho... the guy who could have succeeded Laporta was one that originally brought Ronaldinho to Barcelona and would not let him go. We should count ourselves very lucky. |

kaka like ronaldinho and most brazilians would NOT go to epl if they could avoid it.... in kaka's case, he can. If milan ever wanted to sell him, every club in world would offer. (including boca juniors lol)
slowslow day. so can someone explain to me since we have "no money" how we r signing people period? If we are in debt and berlu isnt splashing money, where does mone come from period. Something isnt right, and its just annoying to read galliani's quotes everry few days, making milan look like a mokery. on another note; found this interesting..... http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=762444 just some names to discuss

Drogba: Milan at all costs
Didier Drogba, the Ivorian Chelsea striker, wants leave the Blues at all costs. This was confirmed today by the British newspaper "The Observer". AC Milan is the most desirable destination for Drogba even though he won’t play in the Champions League. According to "The Observer", Chelsea is close to the acquisition of Samuel Eto'o, Barcelona’s striker, who is three years younger and wanted by Scolari. http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=46&a=87470 How much we can trust "The Observer" is one thing... since someone has mentioned Quaresma alot: "For the moment we have no official offers for Quaresma", said Porto’s president, Pinto da Costa, speaking to the Portuguese newspaper Correio de Manha, denying a possible transfer of the Portuguese player to Inter. "If he asked me to be transferred? No, I haven’t got any complaints." Porto’s initial request, 40 million euros, has now fallen considerably, also due to the flop of the Portuguese National team coached by Felipe Scolari at Euro 2008. The deal may be closed at around 24 million. http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=46&a=87471 |

I've just been thinking about this. If you consider the average age of our squad, most of our players probably have no more than 2 or 3 seasons left at the highest level. At the rate we are going, what's going to happen?
1) We have no GK as a long term option----in fact we have no proper short term option either. 2) Nesta will be past his prime in 2-3 years plus Maldini would have retired by then. Kaladze would be in his 30's already. Who have we got to replace them aside from Bonera. And if we keep pinching pennies in the transfer market, where are we going to find an instant, world class replacement? 3) Zambro, Oddo, Janku will also be on the way out in 2-3 years. Aside from young Antonini, we have no one, whereas a top quality signing like Alves, although expensive would guarantee stability in that role for years to come (at least 6 years) 4) Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambro---we only have Flamini who could step in and carry on. Where are we going to find the "new" Milan midfield. 5) The only stability I see, ironically, is in the forward line with Kaka, Pato, and Borriello if he proves successful. I hope management are thinking about this because if we dont start rebuilding now, we're going to be a mid-table side for quite a few seasons (in the future of course). |

I just dont' think our side is as old as you are making it out to be. And of course there will be new Italians rising through the ranks... I don't really view our squad as any older as the top few teams in the Serie A... like Juve or Inter... and in some cases our squad is actually getting younger... Dude, numbers dont lie. It is not a matter of opinion how old our squad is, it is a FACT. Look at the ages of our starting 11---can you still tell me that they will be playing together in 2010 or 2011? Footballers arent immortal, time catches up on all of us and once injuries set in, the pace lets up, and form declines, we are going to be in trouble unless we have some good players ready to take over.
Who was the last Italian who shot up from our youth ranks to become a star? I dont think Paloschi has reached that level yet. Boriello hasnt either. Ever since the late 80's and mid-90's, I dont think we have had a very good record of grooming young talent through our youth system. Inter has Balotelli, Juve have Giovinco, Barca groomed young Messi to become a world class player. In recent memory, I have not seen that level of talent coming out of our youth ranks. |

Paloschi can reach that level... there have been quite a few and many of them are actually on loan... like six or seven. You have not seen or you ignore? Abate is one of these players... I think Milan's youth academy is superior to that compared to Inters or Juves... we have Aubamanyang on loan to Dijon... Not only that Milan's Primavera team is quite extensive... I mean as far as Juve... Giovinco.. but who else? I think Paloschi is better than Giovinco... So respectfully disagreed. Last edited by Giancarlo; 06-07-2008 at 21:11. |

Can we get back to the transfer market? There is a thread for the EXTENSIVE youth talent system of Milan...
