They were talking about the possibility to sign Stendardo firstly because of his low wage and then because Lazio seems want to get rid of him.

c'mon man, I'm not happy of course. going from Zapata to Jovanovic and ending (maybe) with Stendardo . . .

Wrong. Nothing is better. We need a CB that is BETTER than Kaladze and Bonera. Stendardo is not. Signing lesser talents to build depth is not what we need right now at that position. Milan just did some good things by trimming some fat off our squad in losing Simic and Digao. Stendardo would fatten us right back up.

We need a STARTER! Ivanovic seemed like a good fit (and I'm still holding out hope). Zapata, assuming he's fully recovered, would also be a great fit. Don't know enough about the Silva's, I guess they each are potential stars. But I know that Stendardo is not a star and I'd rather Milan save money than sign a player that will just keep the bench warm.

We can afford anyone, we just don't want to overpay. "Sensible deals" seems to be the current agenda.

I think I prefer nothing. Can't perform as bad as Stendardo.

Galliani angry over Ivanovic
Friday 15 August, 2008
Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has shown his frustration at missing out on Branislav Ivanovic but maintains there is no panic at San Siro.

The Diavolo are looking for defensive cover as their ageing back line is riddled with injury worries.

Galliani seemed to have found his man in Chelsea’s Serbian starlet Ivanovic, but a deal fell through at the 11th hour when the Blues refused to give Milan the option for a permanent purchase next year.

Although the Rossoneri were keen to continue negotiations, Chelsea pushed for an agreement on their terms and angered Galliani.

“I want to make it very clear that Milan will not be rushed into making any decisions by anybody,” the Milan director roared.

“We will either find the defender we need or we will stay as we are. Alessandro Nesta and Kakha Kaladze are available and we can count on Paolo Maldini, Daniele Bonera and Giuseppe Favalli, not to forget Massimo Ambrosini.

“There’s never any point in making quick decisions, especially because we have players who can cover.”

Reports suggest that the next target on the shopping list will be Sao Paulo stopper Alex Silva.

Our obvious lack of money is the thing that worries me, but I have to admit Galliani and Braida had done very good work this summer with pretty tight budget ( to Milans reputation ).

Its a great dissapointment for me that we didnt pay for Ivanovic or loaned him ( whatever Chelsky wanted ), as from what I've a bit seen, and heard ( and I heard it from paople that know football well ), he is a great player.

Someone said he will be sick if we sign Stendardo...Sick is not strong enough word!! STENDARDO? A man who is old and not good enough....good solution for Nesta's injury...

Zapata would cost us around 12-15 mln, and I know Braida has connections with Udinese, but Milan doesnt have the money now on tbeir disposal. We'll see - Im still hoping Ivanovic deal can be reached thatx to the presing from Ivanovic. And Abramovic is such an ass.... we let them buy Sheva who asked to be released. And to compare Sheva and Ivanovic is impossible! Chelsea was always 3rd rate club, things seem to stay that way today also! No class.

Neves is close to Viola, I've seen on tg24. Good palyer but we dont need him.

Player that can play in our midfield instantly in Hernanes. Pure power, technic, vision and tatcical avarness. Complete DM/CM. Im very impressed by his play, not in first plan but doing his job perfectly.

Also Rafinha, showing great improvement. Maybe we can buy him next year.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But seriousely, I adore Brazilians, but Milan needs to buy young Italian players like De Ceglie, Marchisio, Giovinco and so on...to become Aquilani, De Rossi,Pirlo,Rino... that is the right way. 2 or 3 young and quality Italian players give your team strenghy, tactical awarness, italian stile and so on...

About the new defender - at this moment its Alex Silva or Thiago Silva by my choice, But we'll end up with Stendardo

P.S.

By Galliani's words Chelsea acted with an ultimatum, and Milan does not deal with those kind of people. We are Milan, and we rightfully so steped uot if Kenyon was behaving like that.

Thiago Silva is there, Alex Silva, Zapata...

i don't agree with this. this is not a contest of honour. we want a player from them so it is quite normal that we have to play according to their rules. maybe things work differently in italy but in europe you can't go shopping without money! i refuse to believe we can't afford to pay for invanovic right now.

if galliani finds an other player of the same quality then fine but if he comes home with someone like stendardo or dainelli the he ****ed things up badly.

I cant see Berlusconi investing money in the club to:

1) Clear Debts
2) give the club the money that was lost due to not being in the CL(?)
3)give instant 100Million Euros to buy quality players at the prices that are way higher than what they should be.

I can also understand that Chelsea want to get the money they spent on him.

but I can also understand why Milan doesnt want to buy him in this transfer window

I wouldn't blame Chelsea nor would i blame Milan.
The ultimatum was "Loan deal or no deal". Now would you really blame Kenyon for this and what would you do in his place ?
You bought a great potential for 13m euro and now someone asks you (have in mind that it was Milan who asked Chelsea for Ivanovic, it wasn't Chelsea who offered him to Milan) to loan the guy for a year and then, if he satisfies, buy him after a year, with the total value of the transfer being 12m euro.

Chelsea would've been real idiots if they accepted Milan's proposal. And this is the same Milan that asked for Crespo+12m euro for Kaladze, that got around 45m euro for the Chelsea flop Shevchenko and that keeps telling how Chelsea wanted Kaka but even before they made an offer Galliani rejected it.

Kenyon looked after what's best for his team. One year loan without the rights to buy him. That way Milan solve the defense problem for one year while Ivanovic gets the playing time he won't get in Chelsea and returns to London as a better player.

Of course, this all counts only if the ultimatum was "loan deal or no deal". If they somehow tried to involve Kaka in this transfer then it's another story.

well i was not there when they held the meeting so i don't know if this is what happened but to me it seems somehow unlikely. i don't think galliani would fly to london only to discuss such a loan deal. the way i understand it the basic parameters like loan or outright buy are discussed via phone beforehand, no?

Tony, what are you trying to say in this? In these two cases Milan is 100% right. Sheva is CHELSEA's flop, that ruined his game AFTER joining Chelsea. When he was sold he was one ( if not THE ) best forwards in the world, winning golden ball and in his last season, half injured in Milan, scoreing 20 goals... 45 mln in a fair price. They didnt pay 45mln for flop player, they payed 45mln for top class players, and made him fail - their fault.

Kaka' is not for sale, and possible offers are rejected, why would Milan consider offers. The player is not for sale, fullstop.

The rest you said is correct and you have a point. Milan didnt want to do that deal, Chelsea also. Maybe Galliani should have accept it, and solvce CB/RB problems for this season and meanwhile make a deal for ( lets say Zapata ) the next year on new CB.

But maybe this transfer isnt over?

I knew things didn't sound right with this deal. Why would Chelsea loan us a player for 2 million with an option to buy at an additional 10 million for a player they just spent 13 million on barely 8 months ago? They obviously want him for their future - it makes sense on their part. They want him to get 1st team reps on a world class calibre team. Then he can come back to them with that invaluable experience. We did the same thing with Gourcuff. But what doesn't make sense is that we would pay 2 million for a one year loan when the long term benefits of such a deal are in Chelsea's hands. If anything, the loan should be free and they should be covering half his salary.

But I wouldn't be a fan of that either. Milan are no feeder club. You don't lend us players so we can develop them so you can just take them back. Screw it - I barely heard of Ivanovic before these last couple of weeks and I'm not going to cry about it now. But we NEED a young CB to pair with Nesta desperately. At this point, I'm only hoping for Zapata who I know is world class, or the two Silva's who I don't know anything about but who seem to be in high esteem among big clubs.

Come on Galliani! One top class Center Back and this will be one of the greatest transfer markets the world has ever seen!!!

I'm saying that Milan already outsmarted Chelsea with Shevchenko and they played hard ball with Chelsea about Kaladze and now Kaka.
Milan were of course right to do that. When there is a fool ready to overpay then Milan should take an advantage of that.

So now they are more carefull when they do business with Milan because they don't want to be outsmarted again. And they certainly will be if they let Ivanovic go for a one year loan with the rights to buy him afterwards. If Ivanovic flops for Milan then they won't be able to sell him or if they will they'll have to sell him for peanuts. If Ivanovic plays great for Milan then Chelsea will lose him for only 12m euro and it will turn out that they are even 1m in minus with Ivanovic.

If Milan managed to get Ivanovic on loan with the rights to buy him at the end, there would have been only one winner in this case and it certainly isn't Chelsea.

Look at it this way.... lets say Milan have Shevchenko in top form, Inzaghi in top form, Crespo in top form and you bought Pato for 20 m eur.
Pato won't get much chances to play for Milan and his situation will be similar to Ivanovic's.
Now imagine Chelsea getting Pato on one year loan, with the rights to buy him for 17m eur at the end of the season.
It would be stupid from Milan to accept that, just like it would've been stupid from Chelsea to accept the Ivanovic deal.
