Alberto Gilardino - Life in Firenze

The bottom line is Gila was a flop at Milan. Wasnt his fault, wasnt the club's fault. He simpy did not fit our team. This is always a gamble that clubs take when buying players---there is no guarantee that a player would reproduce his form at his new club. Look at Henry for example, lousy at Juve, awesome at Arsenal, and average at Barca. Best example, Sheva---awesome with us, but could not fit the Chelsea system and was mediocre. Gila is doing well because of Prandelli, his old coach--which makes me think of another example, remember Crespo in his first spell at Chelsea? He was out of shape and out of form, after a few months with Carlo, he was back.

Gila can't do it at a big club. Period.

Look at Henry for example, lousy at Juve, awesome at Arsenal, and average at Barca.

I wonder if he has any lingering regrets from going from top dog at Arsenal to another face in the Barca crowd.

i dont buy that, i think at inter or juve he could be successful. playing uptop w/ zlatan or del piero..... I just think milans system PETICULARLY THE XMAS TREE didnt suit him. Remember his first year w/ milan when he was onl 23 w/ sheva he had 17 league goals... a very good mark.
its a shame it didnt work out, but on otherhand, if he culdnt succeed in milans system, he's not the complete player we thought he was when he came

Gila just wasn't physical enough nor strong enough... he was never going to succeed in Milan, or frankly any of the other top clubs. He's a midtable striker... who may be able to contribute at the national level.

henry was good at end of year for barca once he adjusted, and he looked good in there preseason tour... but guardiola is more content giving pedrito and his barca b players run outs.... i mean for christ sake, he wont play yaya toure.

^^^ Yeah that's pretty sick...Yaya Toure is a GREAT DM. He plays Keita as DM instead. If we didn't get Flamini I'd have loved to have Yaya Toure on our side.

i could see gilardino succeeding at some big clubs... he is technically and tactically limited so we couldnt succeed here. you need to be versitile at milan.

But like i said, at inter where they just grind it out and he was upfront w/ zlatan i think he'd score a bit.... that is if he could understand there language, they obviously dont speak italian on the pitch....

Point is, he's better than alot of people give him credit for, but he isnt world class.... If he was he'd be able to play in more than 1 system.

on the barca note, pep guardiola is a moron. typical catalan, only wants to play catalan players....Sorry pedrito is not better than henry or hleb... it was a dream of mine to see henry and kaka together, but not anymore... just think of them both in there primes... prolly two smoothest players on the counter. cant really describe them any otherway than just smooth movement

I wouldnt necessary label Fiorentina as midtabe team,Fiorentina is a top four finisher at the moment.

I think Gila`s problem was either the tactics or maybe Carlo really didnt know how to use him,as Marko would have said.

I completely agree with almost everything you said....esp about Gila not being as bad as some think but still not being WC......Carlo has made Seedorf, Pirlo and Kaka play a variety of roles to which they generally responeded well. He even put Pato in at least two different striking roles. I think Carlo was banking on Gila, with his good first touch and skills to be moulded into a 2nd striker because that would be impossible with Pippo.....but Gila never realy adapted to the role.....Borriello looks more up to the task tbh.
Never liked Henry much though.
