Maybe the second season he should have had more chances considering that Pirlo and seedorf werent that convincing...however by that time, Yoan was great either...he had lost all of his confidence, simply didnt deserve to play.
That right there is THE problem with Carlo's management of Gourcuff. First of all Gourcuff was not some random youth team player who had a good Primavera season. He was the French U-21 captain and was also a major component of the France U-19 setup making headlines in France for all the right reasons. His first season in Milan he was doing so well in the first half of the season that he benched Seedorf (so to say he only had one good game is ludicrous). Then he got injured and HARDLY got a chance to get back into the side. One bad game and he was relegated to the bench. Fair treatment ? No.

Fast forward to his second season after promises of increased playing time from the management and coach. Was his direct competition lighting the pitch afire? You mentioned Pirlo and Seedorf's poor form and Kaka was also injured for a period of last season. What's the worst that could happen by playing Gourcuff ? We play badly and lose/draw? Guess what we were already consistently doing that. It was also this season I believe where Carlo was praising his improvements over the winter preparation. Was his playing time increased ? No. When we needed a creative player on the pitch, was he subbed in ? No.

Bottom line: If you honestly think that 5-10 minutes at the end of every third game is enough for a classic playmaker to make an impact then I'm sorry but you're sorely mistaken. If Carlo were so good at working with young players...then why upon moving to Bordeaux did Gourcuff have an IMMEDIATE impact in the Ligue 1 and claim/cement his spot in the NT ? I'll let you answer that question yourself.

why is everyone here obsessed with whos fault it was.

In 2006/2007 he started 18 games. The following season he started 3 games and was an unused substitute 21 times! That is disgraceful. Whether you like Carlo or not, there is no excuse for taking a player backwards. Some people quite rightly point out that the other midfielders were awful anyway.

if you want to check click here http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players...n=2007&cc=5739

On the other hand, he did not show enough quality in the 21 games he did start. Probably 99% of the people here bashing Carlo now were the ones who wrote the poor kid off last season. Carlo is probably watching Gourcuff this season and doing exactly what most of you are. Realising how wrong he was with the benefit of hindsight. Hopefully he is learning how useful he can be for us.

Can I please ask for all those who hate Carlo to stop turning every thread into a "Carlo doesnt develop young players". Its getting boring now.

Because if we know why it didn't work out the first time then we can figure out how much sense it makes to bring the guy back. i.e. Will it be the same thing all over again.

Why it wouldnt work...Yoan is completely new player now...lets be honest, if he had played half as good as his playing now...He wouldnt have been loaned...,,

At the moment I simply love the way he plays...I cant wait to see him in red and black again...just the thought of

-----Yoan----Dinho----Kaka
--------------Pato--------

enough said.

But honestly..not a single member here even thought of him as a france starter after he left and during he played with us

if marseille had offered us Nasri for Yoan at the end of last season..everyone of us would be simply thrilled, personaly I would have given 5 mil just for the transfer to go through ...and look at them now..Yoan starts while nasri farms the bench.

Nobody believed in him, he was that bad....we always put a clause for the players we dont want to take back.Clearly we made a big mistake with Yoan...but lets not put the blame to Carlo, he did what he had to do, there were always better players in front of him...even the tired ones

If management had high hopes for Yoan, he would have been loaned out in Italy to gain more seria A experience, not thrown away in second level team in france.

Torres is a flop...when he plays Liverpool finishes third...when his not playing they are first.

You're wrong !!
I said many times that selling Gourcuff to take Nasri or Menez was something amazingly stupid ... the best options were to loan him or keep him one more year (actually our management probably took the best decision for Gourcuff, unfortunately there is this purchase clause).

Fantastic post mate....great analysis of Gourcuff as well as Seedorf and the problems we're facing. Absolutely spot on!

Sitting on the bench teeches you how to loose your confidence, that is all. The man played his debut for us brilliantly and then he got injured. all the games and "chances" he played after that were aliby chances by his coach: played in horrible conditions, in chaos and when Milan needed help from Superman, not a young player. he was never given a real chance. That is all there is in gourcuff-Milan story. now we see how good he is. But he needs to KNOw what is his mission on the field, and not to play every 8th game and in different positions and without compact planning of his caracteristic's development, like it was in Milan.

He remeids me of Zvone with the way he passes, not Zidane. Aldough some first touches are similar to Zidane's.

That Gourcuff was a joke, its wasnt untrue. He never stood a chance in that team and in latter stages of serie a he was completely unable to play any kind of football. SAtill, even dough he plays great now, with Seedorf and Ancelotti, I can say I dont believe Yoan should come back to Milan. For his own sake. Becouse, no matter how good he is, he will never play fiorst 11 with Rino and pirlo/flamini in midfield, like it is supposed to be.
