i'll be flying in to attend my first AC Milan match this weekend. anyone out there up for a drink or two before the match? My first visit to Milan also.

ok i'm outta here - i'm leaving for the airport in less than an hour and will God willing be in Milan at 8:00 AM their time. I'll be back on sunday and will post a full trip report for anyone that may be interested. FORZA MILAN!!!

WOW what a trip!!! Here is my report. Keep in mind - i speak no italian other than thank you, excuse me and where is the bathroom. flight out of JFK no problem - fly overnight and land at Malpensa about an hour early - 6 AM in the airport. i follow signs to baggage even though i have only carry - on. 15 minutes to get through customs, and i'm seeing signs for the malpensa express, i get my round trip tickets (11 euro each way) and i'm on my way down the ramp - i validate ticket at yellow machine and jump on the train which was waiting. the airport is the last stop and the cadorna stop is the other 'last stop' so its pretty easy. we get to the cadorna station, i get out walk through the gate there is a cab right there- i tell them the hotel name and show him it printed on the paper and we're off - 10 euro with tip to the hotel.

its early - like 8:30 AM or so and somehow the room is ready - GREAT 5-star hotel about $300 american but well worth it.

i'm off and exploring - take a left and a right - start walking and i see a sign that says san siro - hmmm - i continue - its about a 20 minute walk, pretty easy and i turn the corner there it is - the san siro - i have goosebumps all over - i continue walking and its amazing to be there - i walk around it, people are at the ticket booths showing their credintials and buying game day (but i think thats beind discontniued).

not much really going on yet - its early still - i go back to hotel and shower and take a nap.

i wake up and i'm ready - i have my ticket, which i bought from a broker i found online - located in the UK - ticket was delivered to the hotel the day before i got there - it did not have my name on it but it had a letter from AC Milan authorizing the exchange of the ticket and the letter did have my information.

they have what i'll call organized tailgating there - more like the San Genaro Festival - about a quarter mile of 18-wheeler type booths with the sides open, each selling either food & beer or merchandise. AMAZING FOOD!!!

inside the stadium - AMAZING !!!!!!!! seat was great 13-rows up right on the penalty line, saw pato score 7-minutes in right in front of me, defense the whole 2nd half right there too - and we hold on for a 1-0 victory.

it was so foggy you couldnt see the top of the stadium, just the glow of the lights. couldnt feel the cold - i was on a high.

there are no sporting events in the US that can rival that chaotic scene - the sustained volume of the chanting and singing is unbelieveable - TV does it no justice - its like seeing a marching band on tv - then seeing them live in front of you - COMPLETELY different sound - it was so loud for 5, 6 and 7-minutes at a time - never ending - i just wish i knew what they were saying.

YOU HAVE TO GO AND DO THIS - its not as difficult as you think - take a chance and GO!!!!!!

How much did all your expenses cost?

Plane ticket? Match ticket? Hotel + food?

it was not bad at all:

$620 round trip from NY JFK to Malpensa

$22 round trip Malpensa express from airport to cordona stop (last one) and back.

Just under $300 for hotel.

$250 for ticket - i purchased through a broker because i have never done it before - your name gets put on the ticket and you need your passport to enter the san siro - name on passport must match name on the ticket - or you get an official "ticket transfer" note with ticket from AC Milan authorizing the exchange. They want to know every person that sits in every seat - Hooliganism prevention or at least an attempt.

Food was a minimal expense. i spent much more buying ac milan stuff at the merchandise stands!
