Couldn't have put it better myself! A succinct wrap-up!

I've only seen the highlights so don't have much to say. I'm glad the work Flamini did on our goal (how was he in the game overall?) and disappointed that Pirlo was apparently very poor (I was surprised he started).

I'm hearing a lot about how we failed to stop the power of the Werder attack. I really don't buy the excuses personally, as we don't normally have big strong defenders in the backline and yet before recent times we never really struggled so much. Baresi, Costacurta, Maldini, Nesta etc have all been in the centreback pairings during our most successful years over the past two decades yet none can be described as physically dominating.

Nesta and Maldini are over 6 feet each, and are certainly not small.

I agree with the general thrust of your argument, however.

I guess what Dev is saying is that Nesta and Maldini are not 'dominating' as a defender physically. They are standard.

Exactly Jeff, neither really look to physically dominate attackers through their power or strength. I think Hasan understood my point though as he says he agrees with the idea of my argument.

Exactly. Nesta is a master at anticipating the pass first. He acknowledges that the pass is going to happen even before the ball is hit....which allows him to position himself in a perfect position.....something that Cannavaro is also a master at.

Yes but Nesta is also a big boy. He matched Adriano in recent derbies for strength. I think you are all forgetting that. Nesta IS physically imposing, and some would say so is Maldini.

The fact that Nesta is the elegant long-hair Latin defender doesn't mean he is not physically imposing.

Hasan last year against palermo when we won at last gasp. amauri and miccoli made a joke out of nesta. amauri with his build and skills and miccoli with his speed. i remember nesta was the last man and tackled miccoli and all he got is a yellow.

only an idiot would think senderos did well, and 1-1 is a good result ? exactly since senderos did really well, or you are a 7 years old KID or you mixing thing out like football and american football. 4321 is a flanks formation where you have 2 full backs burning the right and left and a marksman living in the box. its not this hard fLAME
