JUst finished watching the ManU game. It makes me wonder why Gallia and Berlu and some in here still believe Carlo is at the same level as Fergie. Fergie made two changes today, both players are 17 and both made the difference. Infact one of the U-17 IT striker scored the winner, IMO, one of the best goals this year.

So true, look at barca and man utd, who are IMO europe's 2 strongest teams, they are giving youngsters loads of chances and they are doing great! I wish we could do the same thing. these teams are adding new worldclass players to their team each season + they bring in new youngsters.

Also Juventus is doing this, with for example Marchisio and Giovinco who were great today.
Also inter with Santon and Balotelli, and I expect more to come at Inter.

I don't think so, he doesn't dwell on the ball as long as people are making runs. The one that slows the transition is Seedorf, especially when he's playing as a trequesta without Kaka.

I presume you mean transition from defence into attack. If so I must disagree, as he usually doesn't dwell on the ball for long periods and he'll look to make a quick pass if there are options available.

That said, I'm extremely frustrated that he's used in front of the defence in Milan despite the obvious fact he plays MUCH better when given more freedom. His biggest problem right now is he has to be really disciplined tactically, as often he's the last man before the opponent reaches our defence.

I'm sorry but Barcelona and MU don't have a lot of players coming from their "primaveras" ... they don't get so much time.

Barcelona only has Messi and Bojan (who doesn't play anymore since Rijkaard left). The other young players who "play" were bought in other clubs, even if some come from their youth teams.

For MU, it's worse: some young players are brought each year, but it's each time young players from other clubs.

So if you expect that for Milan, that means you're not for Albertazzi in first team for example ... you're more for other purchases like Pato (not only strikers, I mean, young players coming from other clubs).

I agree with Galliani on this one. Gone are the days when we can just go out and pick the biggest name out there---they cost too much money, and often may not perform to expected levels. I think the race now is to find promising players who can bud into superstars---for instance, Kaka---how much did he cost then and how much is he worth now?

So, in the end, it is up to our scouts and directors to find us the next Nesta and hopefully the next Van Basten...

BTW, Van der Vaart should probably be available now that he is not playing for RM...might not be a bad option to replace Seedorf.

rt9, but doesn't your last line contradict the ones before it? there is no reason Van der Vaart would come cheap. If it was us selling him you wouldn't want him to go cheap and nor should Real. Galliani is right only in the sense that there is a cheaper way to build a team, and I have no problem with developing youth or finding like you said - as I have posted before - but whether or not we (management) really can do or want that is another question.

I think the point about having youth players, whether through development or buying from other clubs, is using them even in tight game situations. ManU was down 2-1 last night and instead of say sending in PArk a much more accomplished player than that 17 yrs old, Fergie choosed the 17 yrs old b/c he was on good form. And he scored the winner at the end. Will Carlo even try that? I doubt it. And thats the point, Carlo will only play players who he knows regardless of form, hint-Seedor, Pirlo, Ambro.... Thats to me is a huge reason why promising players will not choose Milan.

didn't he send in Paloschi who scored? I just want to make sure that we are not digging information selectively.

on the other hand, this 17yrs old is on good form; like you said. Do we have a player like that, in the first place? We have a couple of them who don't really impress during friendly. Then of course, why they are not on form (because they don't get much playing time) is a whole new story.

He promptly benched Paloschi after that though..sticking with his trusty Gila-Pippo combo...lol. I'm all for the new 'youth' initiative..but didn't the bald one also say that last summer ? I vaguely remember him saying we'll follow Arsenal's style on the transfer market...or maybe I'm crazy.

I am not being selective here but if R99 was available at that time, do u think Paloshi will even get a chance to sit on the bench that day.
Secondly, you answered your own question, why r they not in any form at all?

IT is great that there are people who still support Carlo....but his time with us is really up if we ever want to be the dominant force again. One more thing, the part about getting two WC players and Milan will be great again, come on, any team with 2 WC players addition will sure make that team more competitive unless those 2 WC players are both GK.

Sorry Geotav, but Utd 3rd choice centre back is 21, almost same age as Darmian who never gets a chance. If ALbertazzi is called up next season will he played the same as Darmian this season? More than likely. Barca play more youngsters in one season than we do in ten. Busquets promoted, Pique returned, Bojan.

I'd love to see Milan play a match with Strasser, Albertazzi starting. It can't be worse than Emerson & Janku.

People always seems to say their not good enough. Somebody mentioned Mohammed Aliyu. He barely got a chance. Sub here for 10 mins, play cup match. Ok go out on loan, and goodbye. We had a player like Donadel too. Much better than some of the garbage we've signed down the years - Garcia, Emerson.

We Don't give our youth a proper chance. The last youth to get a decent run was Daino. That's more than 12 years ago.

I hate to think where we'd be if half of ye were in charge when Franco & Paolo made their first steps. Well done son. Go to Santacremonese for 3 years, and we'll check in every few years.

Reza, I hear what you're saying. But, Van der Vaart is not in the same category as CR7, Messi, Gerrard, etc who are world class players happy at their clubs (with the exception of CR7), and in the prime of their careers. These players are now off limits for us, well for most clubs for that matter. Back in the day, we used to pick up every big name that existed and they wound up straight to our bench. Remember the Roberto Baggio years? Such a talented player wasted on the bench.

Players like Van der Vaart are in a different category. For one, they're not really big names, so don't demand unrealistic price tags. Secondly, if they are not happy at their clubs, then they will come even cheaper. And these are the sorts of players we will have to look out for. Only difference being that we ought to start getting them in their 20's instead of 30's

And remember, end of the day, it's a combination of youth and experience that win titles. For every Pato we get, we need an equivalent solid, experienced player who can handle the big European games.

That's true Jeff. What I understand about the young players discussion is that Fergie seems so brave to give MANY chances REGULARLY for young players but he's not. He normally plays young players in friendly or in the lower-level games (not CL or EPL games) AND MU have good young players (either the players are purely made by MU or bought from other clubs). These young players, who already played some games in friendly or lower-level games, are then loaned out to the first division or even EPL teams.

Let's compare to us. When the last time we were AHEAD Inter in Primavera competition (I am not asking when the last time we won the Primavera championship)? For me, our youth team are really bad. From Primavera untill Allievi we are almost always behind Inter and it's so often that we are many points behind Inter in youth championship. That's the fact.

That's true that Ancelotti doesn't give the chances to young players easily but so are other big team coaches in Italy. The biggest problem is the quality of our youth teams (our concentration in buidling the youth teams).

In my opinion, the management should first give more concentration to develop youth teams and then we can talk about youth developing by inserting them in some games in Serie A. What Ancelotti's fault, in my opinion, is that he didn't give the chances for young players in Coppa games. It's true that he gave few chances but the coppa games should be games for young players with some experienced players, no matter how bad our young players are since this competition is not our priority.

If what Galliani said about young players like Albertazzi is true then he (management) must make that happen by 'forcing' the coach to play the young players as substitute for example by not buying/taking washed-and-almost-useless players as backups (use the youth players as 2nd. backup players) and encourage the coaches to at least bring 1-2 youth players in each game of Serie A (the coach can make decision to play the player when we have for example already killed the game). With 18-19 first team players plus 5-6 young players the coach will be forced to play or at least to bring the young players in Serie A games.

I hope Maldini will take very important role in youth developing (not youth team coach but more as youth team manager/president) when he retired as a player.
