Ronaldinho

What does everybody think about him?
Is his first season (so far) a failure?
should we keep him?

IMO people are too hard for him, when he played he wasnt that bad. He scored some very important goals (most of them freekicks), and I feel whenever he comes on he has something to give to this team.
His only problem is kaka, the dream was kaka-dinhho-pato, but this isnt working. I believe he should be sold in the summer. Man city, fenerbahce... we could get at least 15-20m out of him. And with the return we would already have a replacement.
but this said, I dont think he'll leave. becouse he is the wet dream of berlusconi.

Dinho's not had a bad season when considering the whole season. I think during the first half of the season he did very well, but since Beckham came in he's been out of favour (not directly due to Beckham mind).

The problem with Dinho is evident in our displays. During the period where he was winning us games we didn't play our best football. It was very much individual moments that won us matches and the team can't be built on such foundations.

Since then, we've had two periods where we've done pretty well or very well and worked as a unit, the first being when Pato was the leading forward in the side with Kaka and Seedorf in support, and the other right now where Pippo is the leading forward with Kaka and Seedorf/Pato in support.

Whilst the first was a period with some inconsistency, we showed potential in our game and we're seeing results of the system now. However, when Dinho comes in the balance of the side is often lost or he negatively affects the game of other key players. Most notable is Kaka who in recent weeks has flourished as his movements are excellent and he moves a lot into wide areas. In particular we see him on the left a lot and if Dinho plays, both will end up on the left far too often (never mind Pato liking the left too), resulting in a clump of attackers in a single area.

Unfortunately, whilst Dinho has improved this season, he's just not fitting into Milan at this point. If he wants to fit in he must change his role, something which doesn't seem easy for him to do.

Exactly, well said.

The problem with Ronaldinho is that he has to adopt for Milan and not the whole team has to adopt for him.

Milan won't sell him as already said but I hope he will ask to be sold since he is getting little chance to play in the second half of the season.

Why wouldn't we sell him? Despite Berlu's infatuation with him, his time here is getting less and less successful and he'll definitely aim for the 2010 World cup, so I think he'll ask to be sold, unless we guarantee more playing time (something we can't do right now).

Considering the money we could get from selling him and the way we can use that money in the market, I'd be happy to sell him this summer tbh.

Because he is a dream player for our owner and also a money source for Galliani. There is no reason for Berlu and Galliani to sell him since he earns not so as much as he earned with Barca (I don't know how much but I am sure it's below Kaka's wage, so it could be around 5 mil euros a year) and his t-shirts and co.'s selling can cover it.

But like you said, if he asks to be sold, the management 'can't do nothing'. I just hope he can be sold more expensive than the price we have paid for Barca.

Galliani co. should learn from their mistake, we should buy a CF last year not a Ronaldinho. Even Adebayor isn't performing as well as last year (but also not bad), I still welcome him to change Ronaldinho BUT first a high quality defender MUST come first.

Ronaldinho was not a player that was "not needed," look at why Milan crashed out of the CL against Arsenal.

A hurt Kaka was not himself, Seedorf couldn't make the squad, Carlo didn't believe in Gorky, we had a still-young Pato upfront with Inzaghi. The problem was there was no one to fill in the Seedorf role, Milan have played better in tough matches with the 4-3-2-1, whether we like it or not, that's the truth.

Ronaldinho was supposed to overtake Seedorf, bring in tons of money, plus form a dream partnership with Kaka. Has that happened? No.

As was said earlier, Dinho has to change his style to fit Milan. I am not so pessimistic that he cannot do that.

Against Inter, we saw Dinho and Kaka play together in a way I've seen few players play. It was awesome, the goal against Inter was interplay between Dinho and Kaka.

I think the choice is down to Dinho more than anyone, if he can learn the discipline to play to a team's format, then I think Dinho and Kaka can truly become a formidable partnership.

People have been saying that Dinho leaving has let Messi blossom. Maybe against Sport Dijon, but in the big games, even while Dinho was playing badly, he was the better player. Messi has yet to show himself in a big game, and I think it shows that Dinho carried Barca a lot more than people want to admit.

To say that Milan cannot handle those two would be incorrect, because our 4-3-2-1 formation seems perfect for them. It's just about Dinho and Kaka understanding what made them work so well against Inter (for instance) and why Dinho does not help the team so much when coming off the bench.

Ronaldinho was not needed here from day one. He had a few good early games but then stopped giving a damn after he settled into the club.

well said plus he is having troubles being physically fit , he is the worst in running and fighting for the ball even if he is the one who lost it
i support selling him coz as time passes he is getting less interest even from the fans seeing him not fit although he spent almost a year in Milan already
i wasnt against him staying until the Juve game , he can stay if the owner want but since he come from the bench in such critical moment and almostly did nothing so its not good to keep him.

I'm not sure if there are many players who have been able to return without the support of fans.

If none of us realize that when he came he was depressed and out-of-shape then we are kidding ourselves. Even Carlo said that injuries are a big reason why Dinho has not been able to feature more often, and I see that Dinho wants to play, he has that desire, I'm just not sure if he has the physical condition (yet) to do what he knows he can do for the team.

All players go through tough times, whether it is Rino, Pirlo, or whoever, the truth of the matter is that if we are honest with ourselves, then we can see that Dinho has tremendous potential for Milan, it's just that he needs to learn the system, rather than some sort of major fault of his.

He used to fight for the balls that he lost against Inter and in the first half of the season, I think his injuries are a lot worse then we are made to believe.

Beckham was a player that I know most people never wanted in Milan, and looking back at my old posts from years ago, I told everyone that Beckham could do great things at this club, and it seems that I am right. Beckham has been fit and ready to go since coming to Milan, Dinho is not fit yet and has yet to learn the system.

I believe that Ronaldinho will be Challanged by Galliani and Berlu to show the world that he is not another Sheva. A washed up has been living on public sympath. No one here can deny that when the team needed someone to lift spirits and bring morale when we were at our lowest this season, Ronaldinho provided it albeit with poor physical conditioning. He was still recovering from the trauma of his Barca exit but he was one of the players that stood up and be counted upon when the chips were down.

Anyone expecting him to start off with a bomb and end with a bomb was disappointed but can u really expect more? IMO we bought him not coz of what he will immediately provide but rather what we think Milan can bring out in him. Lets all be honest here, we all know he could have gone to Man City if it was for the money but lets face it, the man held out for a move to Milan by choice. I'd say 1 more season.. its time to show his worth.. Sink or Swim..

Thing is he's been played too far out on the left. How much damage can a 29 year old Dinho do from there? I'd like to see him being tried in the center with Kaka playing further up and Pato as the lone striker. But that would depend on whether Carlo will be here next year. If so, then more of Seedorf, less of Dinho.

Yes he did but he was younger, faster, more explosive and in perfect physical condition.

Now he is none of those things and all he has is the technique and the amazing skill.....however no explosiveness in the first 5 meters of a sprint meaning that the moves are pointless because he can't get an advantage over his opponent. Therefore he poses no threat on the wide left (until he gets into great physical conditioning again....if that ever happens).

What I'm saying is that with age and physical conditioning obviously worsening, players' roles should change within a team. Ronaldinho needs to be played more centrally now where his lack of speed will not be felt simply because of his vision and ability to work the ball.

I'll never forget Zidane's last couple of years. IMO he lost a lot of physical conditioning in his last couple of year, however it wasn't noticeable on the field because he was so smart and was able to control the game and its pace(even though that was always his style of play). That is what Ronaldinho needs to do now. He needs to give up his comfort zone on the left touch-line, go into the middle and get involved into the game build up more. He certainly has the ability and the vision to do that.

In all fairness to Carlo, I think he has tried to do that with 'Dinho and has tried to get him more centrally. But Dinho always ends up drifting out wide. Ronaldinho himself needs to be the one to realize that those times are gone (unless he gets himself to the perfect physical condition he was in a couple of years ago, which now seems more and more unlikely), and recognize that he can be twice the player he is if only he gets centrally and uses his ability in tight spaces to controll the game and make it his own.
