I'll be honest with you: we need a CL winning coach - and this is just out of my own preferences. I don't care if we only win 1 out of 7 Serie A, but I care if we win 1 out of 3 CL titles. It's difficult but hey, look at Man Utd. They are doing it.
And if they are doing it, we should be doing it too. I don't know why Man Utd is successful also domestically (and so it's Barcelona) and, lol, why Inter is successful domestically but absolutely horrendous in CL. My bet is that the style that Milan plays NOW under Ancelotti is very CL-oriented. I may be wrong, so feel free to correct me. *** If Ancelotti is to go, I'll go for Rijkaard. Hey, he has managed Barcelona and won a CL before; much better than having no experience in managing a big club on an European stage. |

Regarding the possibility of winning CL I also opt Rijkaard since he had also good track record in domestic championship (La Liga), something Carlo didn't manage to win the CL and League in the same season.
But again I don't know if Rijkaard will be just like Ancelotti, having (almost) no voice in deciding the transfer market. MVB, in my opinion, should be able to decide the transfer market (to ask new players) easier compare the two others (or at least Ancelotti) since as we know he is like a son for Berlusconi. |

I agree, and let me extend your point a bit: deciding who to buy/sell is one thing; making the RIGHT decision to buy/sell the right person is another... Not sure if MVB is good at the latter.

Of course Jeff, and I am also not sure about the others at making the right decision to buy/shell the right person. What I want to emphasize is that what's the point if the coach has no voice at deciding his transfer market? So, I do think, first the coach must have voice at deciding the players he wants and then we can look at if the coach has the ability at making right decision to buy/sell the right person.
My top priority is the same, change the management but since it is (almost) impossible to do it, then I move to my second option, change the coach. |

What do you think about the voices regarding Kaká and Carlo Ancelotti?
"I am sure Kaká will stay. Regarding the coach, one day it seems I have understood everything and the next day I change my mind. I think it's right that it will be talked about at the end of the season. If the coach leaves, they will still have been wonderful years. Hope is the last to die, however: the team is with him, he has been our coach for many years and a special relationship has been created. It will be up to the club and the coach to come to an agreement and I hope they will. Otherwise we will open a new cycle without forgetting that Milan will have to start winning again." From the official website words of Gattuso. This makes me happy, it seems like Carlo is not 100% back next year.

I don't know why you guys are happy.
Whether Carlo is going to be out or not, some players are not going to be happy that he is out. And that is going to affect team morale and affect how the next coach will be able to bring together. Just a minor point; I guess I'm just being hungover by all the stupid transfer (out) that we have made, and we are making the same mistake again and again and again. If you catch what I mean... *** Or perhaps we need a change. A ceremonial, no-reason change. *** It's also interesting how this talk about Carlo should go surface after MIlan lost a game. I think we have grown increasingly impatient. I bet, I BET, if the new coach comes + don't win the first, say, 2 games (draw-draw or worse), people will start questioning why the coach is not working. *** I really think we are getting more and more impatient. But it's important to ask: Why? *** And my answer is that with technology and everything, information flows much faster than before, which increases how fast 'bad' feelings about a team, a coach, or a player, converges. We are living in an era when technology, speed, and information is everything. It has its upside, of course. But it also has its downside. And I think acting a bit too rapidly without sufficient thinking is one of those. J Last edited by Jeff; 21-05-2009 at 02:41. Reason: More thought... |

Talk about Carlo's and pretty much any coaches position is likely to surface after a poor loss. More importantly though, we cannot argue that the latest Udinese loss was the cause to discuss Carlo's position again. His position has been in discussion for years. I'd argue even 4 years now since many wanted him out after Istanbul. About being impatient, I don't that's really an argument in Carlo's case. We stuck with him through Deportivo, Instanbul and the last three years of dreadful performances in the league. |

Dev, my quick reaction:
1) Absolutely they're professionals; they should have known full well their responsibilities. And if they have really been professional enough, there are games that they should have won, there are games that they should have done better with what Carlo told them to do. And we won't even in this position. Chelsea moved on, still with nothing (though they come close, and players do move on). 2) If we are to discuss a coach's position again and again and again simply because of a loss, we are in trouble. Talking about needing the players/coach to feel 'safe' and 'secure', I don't know. I think I just share a very different opinion from many of you regarding how to manage your players / coaches (as a management team). Discussing the coach's position when the most important objective is to secure a CL position at this very point sounds suicidal to me, much like what Juve has done. But my argument is clear: if we are changing just for the sake of changing, what's the point? We need to go deep into the cause. We can't just say 'sack the coach' and problems will solve. It's like 'don't play dida; don't play gila; don't play Seedorf', and none of the problem has been solved. Unless, of course, Carlo is the problem .*** Forget about Deportivo and Instanbul: Why are we still be a slave to our memory? how about the CL win twice? It's the same amount of episodes (two bad games, two good games). No credit is given. How about the game against Man Utd that makes us famous? No credit. How about winning Liverpool despite actually not deserving it against liverpool in 2007? No credit. And of course we won't count games like Intercontinental cup: It probably doesn't even worth Milan the time to go to Japan and play. *** This year is a disaster, and I have already repeated my point of views a lot of times: Injury is a huge cause. And let's not get into that. Last year is probably Carlo's worst performance, but like you said, Dev, 'we must take into account many factors'. *** I'm not defending Carlo for the sake of just defending; there are players that he should let go, for example Seedorf; but if that's the ONLY reason that he should leave, I'm hesitant. There has to be some systemic (e.g., tactical) error that Carlo is making that he should leave; perhaps his system is not working anymore, and I agree that he should leave. But instead of attacking Carlo from a tactical pointview, he is attacked mainly (not just only of course) from his past-poor-game experience, which is entirely not fair. For example, how would we expect a coach to win games when you have SUCH a week defensive team, + an unhealthy squad with Gattuso out and Ambro never be consistent? How do you be offensive when your star player is out for almost 2 months for weird reasons? Etc. Again, there are reasons to believe that Carlo has been wrong in his tactics, but who isn't? Who doesn't make mistake? *** But for now: Let's focus on getting the CL spot, and then Carlo may as well just go. My fear is: It's not going to go for the better without the proper injection of the right player, and if we have the proper injection of the right player, why do we want Carlo to leave is is just as mysterious. |

lol, not very quick there Jeff
1) Yes, Chelsea haven't had the best results, but the players have generally done well since Mourinho left. There's no reason our players can't do the same. 2) It's not sensible to talk about a coach's position everytime he loses, but this is the modern football world. Carlo's not the same anyway, like I said he's been given a lot of time. Unfortunately, this discussion has been ongoing for a minimum 3 years, and I said many will say 4 (since 2005). I gave and still give Carlo a lot of credit with CL victories. Even lately, despite feeling it's best for him to go now, I give him credit when he does well. Just as a coach deserves credit for when he does well, a coach should be questioned (to put it mildly) when he fails. I don't conveniently forget Carlo's successes nor do I forget his failures when I say I think it's time for someone new. As for what Carlo is attacked for, we must consider what posters are trying to convey when they attack him. I personally try to be clear in my reasoning as to why I want Carlo out. I think you touched on some valid points about Carlo's problems right now, and surely these are contributing heavily to the problems in the team. These factors are very much part of the argument as to why Carlo should leave. It's not just wanting a change for the sake of change, it's wanting change because many feel Carlo's not up to the task at Milan anymore. He's made mistakes which have to be accepted, but when one too many mistakes are made, we simply cannot accept them anymore. He's had some serious issues to contend with, but I honestly believe he could have done more with what he had. Obviously some may not agree, but this is where difference of opinion comes into play. A number of changes are required at the club to make us competitive again. It starts at management level with making the correct choices in purchases and structure, trickles through the medical staff and improving on our problems this season, continues through to the coaching staff and improving for the future down to the players, in which we need to invest. We're in a process of rejuvenation. Just as many will argue Seedorf and Pirlo are past their time and need new fresh replacements, many will also feel Carlo has passed his time in Milan and now it's time to freshen up with a new coach and some new ideas. |

Carletto is gone. We have the prospect to win Roma, and on Monday they will anounce the new coach of Milan. I hope it is MVB, but Allegri is good too. |

Or a contract extension for Ancelotti. That will be funny lol.
I'm with Warro (are you reading?) here: No MVB pls... Dev: I think you have made your points clearly, and I appreciate it. We'll see how Milan plays against Roma and/or Fiorentina and we'll come back to the conversation on what's next. J |

According to sportmediaset our new coaches will be Tassotti-Galli-Leonardo. If we beat Rome, than on monday Ancelotti will officially join Chelsea. Tassotti and Galli will take over (I think that one will be the head coach and the other assistant), but just until Leonardo get his license. Than Leonardo will take over... |

Well, I think it's time to show my point of view for this issue. ;)
Relationships between Berlusconi and Ancelotti aren't as warm as before. 'Il presidente' said that Carletto is to blame for no - Scudetto season. Of course he did it, because he couldn't blame himself. He signed his dream - player Ronaldinho and Ance had to fit Ronnie to the team, despite the fact that coach said: I need a striker. The management told to the media that injuries are to blame for dissapointing campaign. In my opinion it was looking for an alibi. We had competitive squad. When we had to play without Pirlo, Seedorf did well. When Gattuso was injuried, Beckham played superb and so one and so one. Of course, there was a period of time, when we had 9 - 10 players out of game. But we didn't play in Champions League this season, so Ancelotti could play "second - role" players in UEFA Cup and our squad is wide. Ok, I can understand our draws or loses, but I can't understand how could we play so awful football. It's Ancelotti's fault. He had got Zeed, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Shevchenko, Pato, Inzaghi. He played half - fit Kaka - his choice. He played tragic Seedorf - his choice. Under his takeover it turned out to be that all our ofensive players are out of form. Is it normal? And what if Ancelotti stay at San Siro stadium? He can't manage. He can't use rotation in a team, so we would watch another Kaka - Seedorf games, till they'll die because of tired. We have to think about Serie A. But also about Champions League, and even Coppa Italia. It's ridicoulus, when the management say: we're not interested in Coppa Italia. It's better to lose in this game. Sir Alex Ferguson can fight in the best league in the world and win it, fight in Champions League and in the F.A. Cup. Barcelona can be the champions of the La Liga, win the Copa del Rey and play in grand final of the Champions League! We can't fight in all tournaments with one "match XI". If Ancelotti stays we will be 3rd or 2nd in Serie A without any chance for winning and maybe we'll achieve something in Champions League. But only thanks to the fact, that it is possible to win this tournament without any rotation. I'm grateful for what he did for us, but it's time to say: thank you for all, arrivederci.

at a club like ours it is not possible for a manager for stay for long. we could never have alex ferguson managing us due to the sheer interference from the owner. whoever manages us has to abide by this and in the end presidente always wins. would things have been different if carlo had been able to sign who he wanted, maybe but we'll never know. this story has all the hall marks of the president re-appointing carlo to bring back some past glory at some point in the future. football is all about cycles and i do fear that our time has come to be in the doldrums for a few years.
