Summer mercato 2009

According to Corriere dello Sport Leo wants Essien and Adebayor.

Imo these would be overpriced and excessive moves. Essien - while truly a great player - is a Premiership player with loads of strength and stamina, I don't see him being as effective in Serie A. Also, like many in here have already said, do we really need another workman to compliment Gatttuso, Ambro and Flamini? And at the expensive of Pirlo, who if used properly is still a genius.

Adebayor is overrated, he has great characteristics but he doesn't really put them to good use, only last season (07/08). Both would be very, very expensive and both will be away for the ANC (qualification pending) next year.

No matter who we end up with, it will be very interesting to see what Leo will do with the team from a tactical pov.

I don't follow EPL much so I could well be wrong, but I agree with you on your opinions. I would take Essien at a heartbeat. I think he would be very useful - he reminds me of Desailly, and we do need that "iron" element in the midfield to succeed. but I am not sure if it is at the cost of Pirlo. Also, I think that Adebayor is overrated.

Like some said, I would sign for Essien anyday, but for CR7, he can be one of the best players in the world, his behaviour in the stadium and outside doesn't really suit to Milan style ...

First of all, I would not listen to those rumors as both of them will take non EU spots, and since T. Silva already taken one spot, that leaves one left. Probably Essien. And the person from Arsenal that coming to Milan will either be Clichy and/or Ferbagas

If we are tight in money, we could go for someone cheaper like Mariga, but I am sure that he will take up the other non-EU spot.

and I thought we were interested in De Silvestri of Lazio last summer. What has happened to that? He would be a very nice addition.

For some reason(maybe bc I am being too positive) I really think a huge signing or two will happen this summer. It is the same feeling I have about Kaka staying in Jan.

Mariga won't take up Non EU spot b/c he is already playing in Italy.

OK... are you sure? Someone that knows rules please clarify. I believe that any team can sign up to 2 non-EU players per season, but I don't remember that it has anything to do with whether he is currently playing in Italy or not.

A Non European player who plays in Italy and who is transferred in another Italian club is still a non-EU player ...

As long as the player doesn't have an EU passport, he is considered as a non-EU player wherever he plays ...

The rules are:
- 3 non-EU spots for each team
- 2 or 3 non-EU signings possible for each season (something to check because they changed the rule this season, they allowed the clubs to buy one more non-EU player per season)

Last I knew, if you signed a Non-EU player from an Italian team then he didn't count towards your quota of non-eu signings per year.

That's true. That's why there was discussion about non-EU player to be loaned out first to the other italian club so that player won't take any non-EU spot after his loan ends.

I also never heard there is special rule that allows only certain number of non-EU players in a team. What I till now know is that every italian club can sign 2 non-EU players OUTSIDE italy per year.

That was definitely the case, if it has changed I must have missed it. Though if we are right then it begs the question why it hasn't been done with Thiago for example...loan him out for one or half a season

I think the new rule is as follows:

EDIT: You can sign a maximum of 2 non-eu players from outside of Italy but the second player can only be signed as a replacement for one outgoing non-EU player.
