This may be true to an extent, though it still remains to be seen. Ribery does not want to go the Prem and Bayern do not want to sell (they're not playing hardball--they want to keep him).

----

In conclusion, what these two transfers have shown is that Man U can be bullied just like Milan were. I refuse to believe that Man U's rather onerous debt has nothing to do with this move. It grows every year, and while they could have a transfer fund of 80 million sterling a year, they only see 20% of that because of payments. Hence, they probably thought they could use the C. Ronaldo money to buy players.

Football is in trouble, and we have to realize that Real are financing these moves through loans. Regardless of the Spanish banks' largesse, this could have repercussions in the future.

The reason Real have paid 80 million (talking to my Spanish friends) is because Calderon had an agreement in place for that much. For sure I would have liked about 10 million sterling more from Real for Kaka', but I don't think the difference is that rankling.

Milan and Man U were both more successful than Real this decade (Milan and Man U have both done extremely well in Europe, with Milan winning two CLs in Europe and Man U reaching two finals, winning one), but it is the Spanish giants who are still the biggest club in the world.

Kaka might be three years older, but he is still reaching his prime, so the age difference really shouldnt be that much of a factor. Can't argue with the more marketable part as Ronaldo is the much more popular player for younger soccer fans. I don't disagree with the fact that Ronaldo should cost more, but the fact that he cost almost 150% of Kaka is absolutely riduculous, don't you think?

I only used Ribery as an example of sort as he seems to be the most feasible direct replacement for Ronaldo. Even though he said he would like to move to Spain, I doubt Barcelona or RM has any room for him in their midfield. Since he isn't exactly enjoying his stay in Germany all that much, I don't see why he couldn't make a switch to Man U for a new challenge. If the player really wants to leave, there really isn't a whole lot Bayern can do about it. Not to mention they are also spending a lot of money in the mercato and could be looking to cash in on Ribery to recoup some of that money. Of course, the excellent player development system Man U has could also mean that a young guy like Benzema or Aguero could be brought in as the replacement. The key here is that Ferguson is not going to be bullied around by his bosses and accept losing his best player for nothing. He is going to get a monster amount of cash to spend and he is going to make the best out of it. That is, unfortunately, something that I cannot say about Milan.

I have read before that Fiorentino Perez is a very calculated business man even as the president of a soccer club. For every mega star player he brings in, he always conducts a research to see if the cost of signing him would be higher than the financial benefits the player brings in. As ridiculous as it might seem to a lot of us that they spent so much money in one summer, they could very well make that money back in a couple of years. That means, RM might be better off with these deals being made while the rest of the world will have to suffer from them because of inflation of player prices and salary as well as the inability to compete financially with a marketing juggernaut like RM.

the biggest reason why Ronaldo cost more that kaka is ronaldo ability to sell t-shirts and gain sponsorship deals. Kaka brand is very large but you have to admit with ronaldo coverage around the world due to the arrogant English press he has a higher profile. Kaka may not be at his best but he has a arrays of attributes that far out weigh ronaldo skills and talent. Beside when kaka plays well he makes ronaldo look like a ten year boy remember when kaka ripped apart Manchester united and ronaldo just whimpered out of the game. In addition you are buying from a country with a stronger currency value I don't think Man u would have accepted a 80 million euro bid roughly 68 million pounds.

or: axis...

and by the way, CR7's price is not 150% of Kaka's... that would be 65x150% = almost 100M euros.

If Real really get CR7, I don't think they will do well right away, but when you look at their squad, they are all mid 20s. Plenty of time for them to gel and be great.
well it's different when their positions do not conflict each other. Kaka and Ronaldo both need the ball to flourish. Gullit was the anchor for the AM and Basten was the goal getter. Different dynamics then 2 midfielders.Plus Ronaldo is not the most conventional winger. He loves to attack the middle too.

It could work(Zidane and Figo produced winners), but I pray that it doesn't. It would be awesome if Milan meet Madrid in the CL.

Pirlo seems to be on his way out of Milan but his ideal replacement would have been Cigarini. He has gone to Napoli. Pirlo's worth 20million pounds. With that money, Milan can get Galloppa, Dessena and Hernanes.

I don't know why Milan just ignore Santacroce when he's like the best italian defender in Serie A. Players like Kaladze and jankulovski should leave as well

Again I just dont really understand the milan management...cause obviously the way the kaka transfer happened it was planned and i dunno about the rest of you but the fact that the bald bast**d went to madrid instead of letting them come to us is more upsetting then anything else cause it just makes us look even more pathetic then we already do and then perez's claim that madrid fans must thank said bald bast**d..is he angling for a new job in madrid or something..? but unfortunately from the last 3 years he's not capable of managing a top serie b team let alone a major power which unfortunately we are not anymore and madrid have to prove they are again and they are at least making every effort to do so and im not saying its def gonna work but it has a much greater chance then our current non existent plans...

and the 2nd most upsetting thing is seeing as its planned our great management couldnt even use a quarter of their brains to come up with plans on how to strengthen the squad once he was gone...now they sitting around trying to play hard ball with wolfsburg over dzeko which should've been finalized before the sale and again they not money hungry ***s and at worst wont sell him till they find a replacement unlike our brilliant management..i personally think we not gonna get anyone of any stature cause 1stly we wont spend the money needed to do that and 2ndly the sale of kaka has hit our image hard and i really dont think we a very attractive destination for many players anymore...

The person i feel most sorry for even more than us the fans is leo cause he's putting his reputation on the line on being able to build a competitive milan team but the management seem to be doing everything in their power to stop him from doing so..

and unfortunately i like many others here blamed carlo for our old squad and lack of investment and foresight into younger players but now its only too obvious that it was managements failure to back him in the market that has led us here..and i was also probably 1 of the biggest seedorf bashes over the last year and now realise with pirlo's and gattuso's failure to rule out moves to chelsea that the only true rossaneri left in this team is seedorf and although i might still think the man has not played to the levels we need him to or if he is still capable of doing so i will respect his love for this team and his refusal to even acknowledge that there is anywhere else for him besides milan..

and 1 last word on the kaka affair and and i really dont think he angled for the move and was rather given the green light to leave and i think the management helped make up his mind for him and as much as it hurts for me to say i understand once management wants to sell you and he might've noticed what many of us here have noticed that management is not gonna invest the way we need them too...it hurts the he's left but its just a symptom of the real problem we have here and not the cause..

Or you might call it the "axis," which might be the word he was looking for.

Anyway, I expected the Ronaldo thing to happen quickly because he's obviously been positioning himself for a move. Not really a problem for United though. They have a good enough team to win anything even without him (especially if they now keep Tevez). They're in a better position than Milan because the core of the squad is younger.

Milan is in a good position to rebuild though. There are many young, dynamic players out there who can be purchased and worked into the lineup while veterans such as Gattuso, Zambrotta, Ronaldinho, Nesta (if healthy), Ambro and Pirlo (if he stays) lend experience, leadership and serve as mentors. My hopes for how this will turn out are actually very high.

As for Madrid, will they be petitioning FIFA to allow three or four or five balls to be used at the same time? They already have a squad filled with players who are accustomed to being the center of attention. Now they add Ronaldo and Kaka? Villa probably next? Yeah, that's really going to work out.

I really dont see Flamini as one of the key players. He is a hard worker, without much needed creative spark. Can not picture him a backbone part of the squad. His former teammate from Arsenal is the right choice. Or someone more attainable like Inler, Biglia, etc.

I think Seedorf would leave this sinking ship if he could get the chance in a heartbeat.
It's just that nobody wants him and no one would pay him as much as MIlan does.
When you look at things from this angle, you realize that it's very convenient for him to act like a "loyal rossonero".

Good point.

Well, some of the positive news is we're supposedly after Jovetic of Fiorentina, who's a 19 yr old AM/playmaker. He's an excellent player imo who has a very bright future ahead of him so I'd be happy to get him.

Well, some of the bad news is Jovetic's agent has already dismissed of him going to Milan. Apparently, no one from Milan has said anything and Jovetic is relaxed on holiday and is very happy at Fiorentina.

I was just reading about that (well, sort of...it was in Italian). I think he'd be a great addition. I would imagine there's a good chance it could happen if Milan wants him badly enough. But we'll see.
