Pato was considering Chelski, not Real - although I'm sure he wouldn't turn Real down if they called.

"Star" players are far and few between. Hence, the claim made is an exaggeration. I wouldn't include Pato in that "star" catergory, but he does have potential to be a star.

Just sell Pirlo for 25mil and buy Ribery and Dzeko.
Then we can play......
-----(Flamini)--------
-----Ambrosini--------
-------------Gattuso--
---Ribery--------------

----------Ronaldinho---
----Pato--------------
------------Dzeko-----

and done deal.

I guess all we have left to do is dream right?

Wolfsburg warn AC Milan off Dzeko
12.6 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

German champions Wolfsburg insist they have no intention of selling highly rated Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko to Milan.

The 23-year-old finished the season with 32 goals in 34 appearances and won the Footballer of the Year award in Germany.

Yesterday, Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani admitted the Rossoneri are very interested in signing him this summer.

Dzeko did more than reciprocate, telling the Press he is ready to move and has always dreamed of playing for Milan.

However, Jurgen Marbach, the Wolfsburg director general, appears unwilling to listen to offers for his prize asset.

“Dzeko is unsellable. We do not want to sell the player,” Marbach said. “Today we will announce that we have not had any interest in him.”

However, despite Marbach's assurances the Italian Press is convinced a deal for Dzeko will eventually go through.

And now we complain how RealM are destroying football

And yes, it would be a bad move to dump Dida right now. Want to rely on a crippled Abbiati, Kalac (meh) and some unproven signing?

To think that management gave an extension to Kalac after his fifteen minutes in '08, and got one Serie A match and half a friendly in return this season. That was a huge waste of greenbacks in itself.

Hazard, comes close but he still to green and unexperienced but if we give him a real chance, with Ronnie as our n° 1 and Hazard to fill in for him, who knows...

Although he is another player Real wants to buy aswell Zidane said he would take him to Madrid without hesitating. I think Real wants every position 4 times covered.

Cassano is also mentioned but I don't hope he'll come.

Who?

(On a side note, I really despise this 10-character-minimum rule. Sometimes I don't feel like giving a speech in every post.)

Is it really that unrealistic. I mean it will cost fair amount (say 50-60m euros for all?), but considering we just got over 80m euros in just two sales and could yet sell the odd player more (Oddo I would think) surely we can get these guys along with others like Abate and maybe a guy like Mariga.

I didn't get a chance earlier to explain my reasoning behind these transfers. I really think we should aim for a change in our play, more in style than in structure. I think we should maintain with a back four, but with two attacking fullbacks. Both of the youngsters mentioned are capable attacking fullbacks, but also Thiago Silva, who the more I've looked up on seems capable of the role. Zambrotta will still be here, so we know for certain we can attack in the wide areas. With a central partnership of Nesta and Santacroce, we'd be able to build a solid back four imo with a mix of experience (Nesta, Zambro) and youth (Silva, Santa).

The mifield shape would for me have two ball winners, Flamini and Rino, who between them are capable of covering a lot of ground and Flamini is capable of pushing forward if needed. In front we have a playmaker with Pirlo (a role Seedorf can also understudy), whereby he'll have freedom to move and at the same time, utilise his vision and his passing ability.

Then I'd like somewhat of an attacking trio up front, with Rossi, Pato and Dzeko. Dzeko would act as the head of the attack with the other two supporting. Rossi and Pato would need to develop a good understanding between them to work together, but with their differences in movement, such as Rossi's natural tendency to move a little deeper and Pato's movement in the wide areas, we should be able to fit the two into the side together, which would benefit Dzeko who will get more space and less markers around him.

The concept of the system would fit with Leo's idea of using wide areas, as fullbacks will be able to push forward with a fair amount of freedom, and the attackers (mostly Rossi and Pato) can move into wide areas at will. So the shape would initially look like this...

-----------------Abbiati-------------------
Silva------Santa------Nesta-------Zambro
----------Rino-----------Flamini-----------
------------------Pirlo--------------------
--------Rossi---------------Pato----------
-----------------Dzeko-------------------

However, players will be free to move a lot around the pitch. My thought was based on the idea of triangles throughout the pitch, and the system is designed as such. For example, you have the obvious triangulation of players like Rino, Flamini, Pirlo and Dzeko, Pato, Rossi, but also triangulation in other areas like Silva, Santa, Rino or Nesta, Zambro, Flamini or Pirlo, Pato, Rossi. This idea of triangulation would be based on the initial shape, but players would be free to move to maintain this concept throughout the field (for example a triangle formed with Silva, Rino, Rossi when moving up the right), thus resulting in a tighter unit where players are always supported whether it be in attacking moves or defensive. It's based on concepts used in Dutch football history, in particularly at old Ajax teams.

I think we should build a game on lucid attacking play that aspires to using a strong team unit, rather than building the side around individuals.

getting rid of dida is a must there no way he will accept a 2 goalkeeper role and he hasn't done enough to deserve to get Abbiati place. Plus Dida earns roughly 5 millions a season at milan which is ridiculous for 2nd goalkeepr. In 5 or 6 years dida would have to retire anyway and it is not like the prospective goalkeepers Milan are after are untested. Merchatti had a international appearance for italy a couple of days ago. as for other signing dzeko would be a fantastic addition as well as mexes or santacrose to back up the defence. Milan can't really get a replacement for kaka it more likely that milan will change it style of play.

Funny, he did just that this season until Abs got hurt, and never complained about it.

Anyway, I didn't say Dida deserves to be #1 over Abbiati, because Abs was clearly the better keeper this term. But with Abs on the shelf through the start of the 09-10 Serie A campaign, Dida is the only legitimate option we have at the moment until Abs gets back to full fitness (and likely takes his spot back), and he proved he still has the horses to get the job done. Therefore, he should be allowed to stick around for a last hurrah, because we could do far worse for a backup.

This is the last year of his contract (4, not 5 mil per), and I doubt he'll go on beyond that, as he is getting older. He can't really be blamed for signing the last big deal of his career that Milan put on the table before they suddenly cried "financial crisis" two years later.

My issue is that with all of Galliani's face-saving wheeling and dealing and his search for The New Kaka currently going on, a new GK seems pretty low on the totem pole for at least this summer. I doubt we're going to pony up to Cagliari to take Marchetti off their hands, but I'll gladly be proven wrong.

OK, I'll quit rambling now.

1) I thought he already accepted it with Abbiati playing for most of the time before he got injured.

2) What makes you think a GK who earns 5mil to be willing to let go without a severing package that will be equally expensive?

3) Based on that logic, we shouldn't ask to buy Buffon.

4) That's the problem. Merchatti's GK is pretty awful that night.

I'm so glad that Man U has accepted the offer for C.Ronaldo because it shows that Milan is not the only team that is willing to sell their star, and these so-called stars are willing to go so long if they are paid well, including the sane-like Kaka`.

When the players don't want to play for you anymore, and there is no way to convince them staying, let them go.

ADRIANO GALLIANI: "Milan will be absolutely competitive"
6/11/2009
MILAN - Here's what Adriano Galliani, Milan's delegate administrator, said today at the Lega Calcio: "Milan will absolutely be competitive. For each player that leaves an adequate replacement will be found. Maldini left, Thiago Silva arrived. Kaká left, an important player will arrive. Milan are not dismantling. Until today, aside from others who didn't play much, players like Emerson and Senderos have left, as well as Shevchenko and Mattioni who haven't been re-claimed."

jeff and blacktop my objection to dida has been his inconsistency over the last three seasons ever since the flare incident he has been a completely different player. In any case if you dida is more talented now than abbiati no doubt but abbiati is a better all round goalkeeper and if you dida is a good all round goalkeeper i would seriously question what you think determines a quality goalkeeper. Actually dida has spoken out about being benched this isn't a long term solution frankly after his behaviour last season and tendency to get injured leaves me serious doubts that he will not be a good number 1 for Milan. In addition he was awful in the uefa cup games appearances some of the decisions he made were horrific leading to easy goals or the defence having to defend though out the game. The most compelling factor is that he was so terrible in 08 that kalac replace him and conquered the position for remainder of the season. I don't like Abbiati i don't like his political views or the way he approaches games but what he does is inspire confidence in the defence and make some fantastic saves. The most important point to make is that Carlo played abbiati in front of dida at every opportunity this suggest that Abbiati was stronger in training than dida. Finally abbiati has been consistent for the last 2 years relatively low percentage of mistakes made and a lack of re- occurring injuries make him the nature 1st choice keeper. Can you guys seriously contemplate a situation where dida will be number 2 to abbiati for the next 3 season?

dont be silly i don't think just because merchatti player for italy that he is fantastic or that he should be Milan next goalkeeper because he has a italy cap. It is the fact that he has been so consistent over the season that he call up and start over players like amelia. Merchatti much potiential than dida cost half in wages and isn't a mentally weak like Dida. There really isn't much more Dida can offer Milan with strong goal keeper like abbiati and be better for milan and better for the player to move on.

I have to say that I actually think this formation would work bar one thing, Thiago plays in the centre of defense, so unless you want him to change his natural position, I'd say put down another Winger there, otherwise play 3 in the back with two wingers from midfield in support.

-----------------Abbiati-------------------
Antonini------Silva------Nesta-------Zambro
----------Rino-----------Flamini-----------
------------------Pirlo--------------------
--------Rossi---------------Pato----------
-----------------Dzeko-------------------

This would be a more believable map. And I can actually see it working, assuming we buy the two up top.

Now the actual problem with our team lies in our backup. We lost half of our bench in the last week. What do we do to get like-for like quality to sit on the bench? Rather, who do you want so that we can replace quality with quality during the games, and in case of injuries?

Right now we have

Borriello
Ronnie
Ambro
Bonera
Kaladze
Jankulovski

Chop and change to your hearts content, I'm really interested in everyone's ideas.

Eah right, Galiani:Maldini has gone T.Silva has come
Kaka has left an important player will come.

How can you replace those 2, if you only wonna replace those 2 you should spalsh at least 150M!
T.Silva and Hernanes or Dzeko herhaps are a **** infort of Maldini and Kaka.
By the way why we are going to make a competitive team? If we splash at leat 30-40M we are again in depth!
We sold Kaka just to erase the depth if we try to use at least the half that money on transfers we are again in red.So what the point of selling Kaka when you are again in red?

Sell the club to the arabs, they now what has to be done.

The main problem is that for Kaka for example, Real Madrid will earn 76M (from a British study). They spent 65M. Ok, so they will get 10M thanks to this purchase on these 6 years.

But what is not said is that they have to spend on the wages too ... so these 9*6 (without tax) = 54M to spend on the 6 following years that will directly come from the TV rights etc ... but as they also got C.Ronaldo (same problem with even higher price) and are willing to get other players of that kind and who are maybe less "sellable" merchandising speaking (Ribéry is not a superstar for example), they are going to lose money anyway, contrarly to what said Perez.
