If we play 4 3 3, we need some serious wingers.
Dinho, Pato, Abate, Di Gennaro are OK, but this is still weaker than Barca Last edited by Aficio; 24-06-2009 at 17:53. |

I still don't think we'll be playing a strict formation with two dedicated wingers. It's going to be a lot more fluid than that and the width of the front three will be dependent on a lot of factors (opposition, time, pressure, need for a goal, form, fatigue, etc).
I don't believe that we'll be seeing Ronaldinho and Pato parked on either side of the pitch hugging the line and waiting to burst forward. Its suicide. Ronaldinho will start left deep and cut central and have Pato overlap. This is much more effective than having them on opposite sides. Dzeko (Borriello) would be moving on the far side looking for space. That would be the formula for most of our attacks, which would evolve having full backs overlapping all the time and midfielders making runs into space that Dzeko creates. We will not become a standard 433 with wingers. So forget about it.

Abate does not have the quality to play at Milan. He is one over-rated player and we are all excited to have him back just because we dont have any youngsters..

4-3-1-2 or 4-3-3 is both good for me
Zambro---thiago---nesta----bonera ------flamini----pirlo----gattuso -------------------r80----- --------Pato-----Dzeko/Bor.--- Or Zambro----thiago---nesta----bonera ---flamini---seedorf------gattuso -----pato---dzeko-----r80 Dont burn me for these ideas im not an expert. Bench is Seedorf, Borr., ambro, pirlo, etc Man im sooo pumped about r80 getting to play normal amount of time. He is going to prove so many people wrong. r99 is doing it in brazil (with his fat ass) R U SERIOUS ABOUT ABATE BEING THAT BAD?

Abate isn't in the same class as Robben or anything, it's not like a loaned out youngster is a world class player. However he has pace, he has workrate, decent technique and decent crosses. (I hope) no one is expecting him to take a first team spot from day 1 and make Messi look like an average player. However he is a decent quality backup player with a future ahead of him, and can definantly improve a lot.
Seriously, do you expect us to be as good as barca next season? Then you might as well just start being disappointed right now, cause that will never happen. Hopefully we will have a good defense that can be the backbone of our team, but offensively we will not be in the same league as Barca. They have big world stars in every place, and to get that we would have to do what Real Madrid is doing. What it seems we are doing is trying to buy the stars of the future, and that means players like Messi, Xavi and Iniesta will only be a dream. |

I think I should really stop saying Abate, Di Gennaro and Polashi being the next generation of Donnadoni, Nedved and Pippo as I think some of us here really believe in what I am saying.
I am speaking the following players as of their quality NOW reflecting their potentials. Abate at best can turn into someone like Serginho, whom I think had great speed, and can pass any defender with a good cross. Thats nothing more. Abate now is just someone who runs up and down the flank, make a pass here and there. Don't get me wrong, he will be useful in the current Milan but by no means is he someone like Robben or Messi or CR7. One more thing, I think he started almost all the games for Torino and only managed to get 1 goal. Di Gennaro at best will be someone like Micoud, who can do all the things of an attk mid but nothing spectacular. He will make passes here and there, also can dribble pass defenders but he will never be in a class of Kaka, Gourcuff and even Givinco. Personally, I don't think he should come back to Milan this year as there is really no use for him. Yes, it does seem right to fit him in Dinho's role if Dinho is injured or can't play, but I would rather slot Pirlo in the role with Janku, Gattuso and Flamini as the 3 mid instead. Polashi is arguably the most talented of the three, and he does reminds me of Pippo b/c of their sizes and the way they both score. From a pure rational standpoint, I don't think anyone can be another Pippo, as he is just a freak of nature. Polashi will be a scorer like JDT, someone who is solid coming off the bench but not an explosive player. Polashi is someone who should start the game, and slowly he will score or make something happens instead of someone who can come off the bench and cause problems. Yes, I know he came off the bench and scored two seasons ago, but he is just not the explosive type of striker. The problem is that both Pato and Polashi are small in size and if Leo starts both of them as strikers, then there ain't a point in playing with wingers or wingbacks as I doubt they can beat any CB pairing in the world with headers unless the other team CB is Senderous. If Leo choose to play the ground game, the existing midfielders are not skill enough to do that. At the end, I think Polashi is right to be on loan for another year. Also saw the US Vs Spain game. I must say that US played great and defended well against Spain. But pls don't say that Team play beat out individual talents as Spain do play like a team and won as a team in Euro. They are not France who only rely on ZZ or RIbery, or Portugal with CR7. |

I agree with your view on the youngsters gabriel489. Abate, Di Gennaro and Paloschi are talented youngsters but I dont think they'll ever be worldclass. but that doesnt mean they cant be usefull, I love to have players like that for the squad depth. Its better to have those players than oldies a la emerson.

The thing is I think only Abate is able to break into the rotation in Milan of the three. I would much rather see the other two develop in a Serie A team for one more year and see how they do then call them back to Milan the following year and use them properly.

I think we should offer Napoli around £10 million & Kaladze and/or Oddo for Santacroce.
Some kind of money plus player deal (especially if they got a CB in return) would be ideal for both teams. We wouldn't outlay too much, we'd get rid of a couple of players and get a great young prospect in return. Napoli would get some cash, some players to help maintain their push for CL and experienced heads to help their young side.

In this argument about Italian youngsters, the list is quite long of talented Italians that had the potential to play at the top sides yet weren't (haven't yet been) given the chance. I can't remember who said it, but someone said how we were proud to have Italians as the backbone of our side (note, all of our most successful sides had a strong Italian identity), and with young talented Italians coming through, I simply don't want to waste the opportunity to build a strong side.
About this discussion on Abate (welcome back to him), Di Gennaro and Paloschi, I think we've got to be patient before judging them. For example, Gabriel, you've compared Abate to Serginho, as a player who is useful to the Milan set up but nothing more. That's true but bear in mind Carlo did manage to bring a world class LB out of Serginho (before injury struck) and we never know, something similar could happen with Abate. As for Di Gennaro, he's been hyped up but he has shown glimpses of being able to be a great player. Whether he does is another matter and depends pretty much on him, but at 21 he's got a few years yet I'd think. Pirlo, who will go down in history as one of the greatest Italian players ever only really hit it big at around 23-24, and prior to that he'd only had chances to show glimpses of his ability, a little like Di Gennaro. Paloschi is the one who I think is most likely to succeed of the 3 right now. He's been really successful so far given his age, and he's really looking like a good player for the future. He's got an innate ability to score goals (a little like Pippo), but what really impresses is his ability on the field of play, helping attack build up play, workrate and teamwork. We do have some potential in our youth, and Italy in general also has a lot of potential in the future, but if these players aren't getting chances then I think it will be bad for Italian football and the Italian league. I'm not against getting foreigners, but I don't want Italy to become like England where homegrown players don't get space to come through. |

Just a supposition, mate. If we play 433, that must be the best attacking force of all Europe, because the goal is CL, as always. We are better in DM, Pirlo=Xavi, Iniesta is good at ball control, not a playmaker, so players like Hernandes or Lavezzi will add something. Dinho = Henry, Pato is not Messi but he can be count on, Eto/Villa > Bori/Dzeko, but we cant forsee the future now. Yes, I am now disapointed. N. 3 Cap left, Kaka left, Carlo left; Pato, Pirlo, Rhino are not motivated; Nesta, Thiago Silva, Dinho, Bori,... even Leo, all seem uncertain. However, we have not finish our transfer campaign, yet, and no match was played under Leo. So, let imagine something ![]() |

Lets have a healthy discussions since nothing much is going on. Bro, you really think Serginho was a World Class LB, to me I think he was a great weapon off the bench as he could change the shape of the game but not to the level of a World Class LB. Anyhow, I would just like to say that if Abate, Di Gennaro and Polashi really do become this geneartion of Donnadoni, Nedved and Pippo, I will be extremely happy and thrill. As of now, beside having great speed and a willingness to run, run and run. Abate is really nothing truly special. I really hope he proves me wrong but to put him at the level of the next great wave of IT players is a bit of a stretch at this point. As Santon, Cigarini, Balotelli, Givinco, Santacroce, and Motta are already doing well. Abate, as mentioned, had been playing regularly for Torino and yet had not really show he has the potentail to be great. Di Gennaro, you mentioned that Pirlo did not make a name for himself till 23 and 24. Thats fair, but to me, I thought Pirlo was as talented as anyone of his age when he was 21 and playing with Baggio at Brescia. And I would not compare Di Gennaro with Gourcuff b/c I do see more talents in Gourcuff than him. Well, to be fair, he only had half a season at Series A and he might can do more. Polashi is solid. But I would rather see him play in Parma for another year before jumping to Milan and end up on the bench. |

IT is like here is a bag of garage and 10 mil for the future of IT CB. I think Napoli might do a Bonera + Ambro + 10mil for Santacroce. As Donnadoni will get two useful players and 10 mil in return for one player. |

There isn't much difference between Bonera & Kaladze in terms of quality, so what you suggest is only a good deal for them because of Ambrosini. Though if we let Ambrosini go i'd want first option on Hamisk as part of the deal.
How do you know Sanatcroce is the future of Italian CBs? All he is so far is potential, there are no guarantees. I don't want to debate how good he is or could become, but he's not up there yet. Anyway, forget about Marchetti as Napoli have signed co-ownership of him, according to Gazetta that is.

I think Bonera is better than Kaladze and Santacroce is better than any other IT defender at the moment, that includes Chellini.
Anyhow, I thought Milan got the first option on Machetti already? |
