Maybe. Maybe not. It depends on what he's accomplished and it depends on the market. Right now I don't think Pato is worth more than David Villa. With young players, it's always something of a gamble regardless of their potential.

i slightly disagree.... villa has 3 maybe 4 years of top form left. He'll be 28 next season. Pato will be 20

eh.... if pato becomes world class he'll eventually move. World class foreign players tend to like to jump league ot league, try new challenges. This is especially true in modern football where players have power, not clubs.....

Look at best players of last generation: Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane, beckham (biggest name) and on and on... Pato isnt italian or from milan, its foolish to think we'll have him forever. At some point if he wins us scudetto or UCL he'll get tired and want a new challenge. I cant blame him

True. But we don't know if Pato will ever be as good or as consistent as David Villa. If I'm a club willing to spend big money on a striker, I'd rather spend my money on a proven guy that I know (barring injury) is going to perform at a world class level every time out and help me win over those three or four years (and who is to say if you sign Pato to a four or five year contract he won't move on at or near the end of it, meaning you've had him for no longer than you had Villa). Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of faith in Pato. But the money being quoted is more than Chelsea or anyone else should be paying for him at this point. There's a reason that experienced, established players have traditionally been moved for more money than young, talented prospects.

Pato wasn't inconsistent.... at milan he went against park the bus defenses... you saw any time he got space of countered he was absolutely lethal (roma v. mexes anyone?) Playing in italy has made pato better cause it forced him to learn new ways... but if he was in spain or england (where its more open, especially spain) He'd probably score 25.

Anyway i get your point and it's valid...all transfers are a Gamble, i think pato cause of his age will give you more return on investment

He wasn't as consistent as guys like David Villa, Torres, etc. And he's still not as good a player at this point as Villa. I would rather pay big money for Villa and have him as the world class spearhead of my striker force for those three or four years you spoke about than to pay big money for Pato and watch him develop during those same years, then leave at or near the end of his contract. There's just no way that Pato should be as valuable on the market as David Villa.

Thinking of the market, I think the best option at the moment would be to take Huntelaar on loan. This would be an initial, low-cost option which would free up funds to build an extremely strong defense and midfield. This would give us Huntelaar, Boriello, Pato, Ronaldinho, and Inzaghi up front.

With the leftover cash, we can start looking at top, world class signings in midfield and defense. Just remember, our defense dropped us out of a lot of games last year.

The one thing is that I wish we would have already made a signing or two. Camp opens on Monday for a lot of the players and it seems like players will trickle in only as time goes this summer. Not good for me who flies to Boston in 3 weeks to see them play Inter!! God only knows what the starting squad will look like!!

Yes, debating about which player is better is very hard because there is no attribute in real life like PES or FM. As you say this, I think that I can't change your opinion. No offense, but I guess you don't see Benzema playing much

I think that's good, sound reasoning. As it stands now, it seems that Huntelaar is probably the number two target behind Fabiano if some of the rumblings are correct. I would love Fabiano, but I'm sure Milan won't pay what Sevilla is asking. Maybe they can come to an agreement in the middle. But I'd be happy with either Fabiano or Huntelaar (or both, of course ).

I know it's tough to be patient, but I'd rather Milan brought in the right players rather than the easiest. The transfer period is young.

It's not a position that requires great speed, but rather a position that requires the ability to pass, dribble and pull strings in the offense. Riquelme certainly never had great speed. Even Zidane's genius came from his playmaking ability, not from blazing speed. Ronaldinho is a more audacious and probably a more creative playmaker than Kaka. Nobody is more elegant with the ball. If, say, Pato and Huntelaar are playing in front of him, opposing defenses will fear his unique methods of getting the ball to the strikers. Kaka was more conservative, more direct. He, at this point, is a better one-on-one player, always knowing exactly the right moment to streak past opponents toward the goal. But in the matter of creating chances for his teammates, I'm not sure he's superior to Ronaldinho (assuming, of course, that Ronaldinho takes this opportunity to prove himself and to win a spot on Brazil's World Cup team with the hunger that he should -- and it's hard for me to imagine that he won't).
No I meant whether he'll play like Ronaldinho or just another guy the club pays 6.5m for

In other news, Peter "Crouch" officially has the most ironical name ever.

Ah, well, everything is in place for Ronaldinho to have a great season: the opportunity and the incentive of proving himself and earning a place in Brazil's World Cup team. If he doesn't do it now, he'll never get another opportunity like this. So he'd better take advantage of it.

Might as well call him "Fats."

Noone is buying tickets, and: http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=28&a=130510

Galliani makes tickets cheeper and with some "bonus" options etc. What is it Galliani, money not going your way? At least people will pay less to see the fight for the 3rd spot.

We have come to the point in which Milan fans, who were the best in buying season tickets, have STOPED buying. Sad story again.

Come on just buy one great player for all that money we made. Fabregas or something like that.

nah, you could make that same argument for Man U, they sold Becks and Ronaldo in their primes. they still have managed to do ok. the thing is, its ok to periodicly sell your stars provided that you invest the money in new players to keep your team strong, and they become new stars.

Perfectly said I agree we need some signings we actually do not have a squad at the moment.

More important is to sell top players when it's good timing for the team, not the player.

The new revolution could have been built around Kaka, Pato, and Pirlo. Instead of dumping them, dump the problems - Dida, Slowdorf, Kaladze, Ambro, Janku, etc...

Well, we could have really used Gourcuff to replace Kaka. Nope, sold him too and for a SMALL sum. Doesn't sound like we're making smart moves.

I would rather have sold Ronaldinho to ManCity, than lose Gourcuff.

Don't compare what Man U has done vs what Milan has done these past few years, because Milan mgmt (and Milan Labs) has screwed up after 2003 big time. Man U keeps buying young and talented players, Milan buys mostly cheap, over the hill farts.
