I think we should keep Pirlo. We can't change the whole team too quickly so I think we should now look to keep most of what we have left. Pirlo this past season hasn't been too bad either. I think the criticism is a little unwarranted and on the whole didn't perform too badly after returning from injury. In fact, I'd still argue he's been one of our more consistent performers.

For Italy, he's remained one of their best players and has only looked a little out of sorts during the confederations cup (where he was still one of the better players in the side), when the whole side looked mediocre.

At Milan, he was heavily restricted under Carlo for a few seasons now and I think with some changes in his position he can still be of great use for another season or two. There are others in the squad with high wages I'd much rather sell before selling Pirlo.

exactly my toughts... maybe if leo gives him more freedom in front of gattuso and flamini (De Rossi and Gattuso in Italia squad) he could perform very well.. we shouldn't change this team too quickly, but some changes are definitively needed...

as far as wages are concerned, they can live with it... i read on gazzetta that with current departures milan saved 54M€ only from salaries...

I don't mind if Pirlo stays, in fact it's probably best for all involved. But IF, he wants to go and a good enough offer comes in, then why not sell him now?

Pirlo's ego? What do you base this on?
He's one of the lowest profile players I've ever seen (for a guy that talented and recognized).
1) Point well taken. Pirlo is always a great player to have, but if a player of his characteristics is not in the new coach's plans, he himself doesn't mind leaving, AND we get a massive offer for him, then why not sell him? Everybody wins.

2) Yes Mazzone may have created that role for him, but Ancelotti perfected it. Tactically speaking, he developed into arguably the world's best deep lying playmaker under Ancelotti. His Italy call ups resulted from his performances for Milan, not Brescia. And the most important (for him) is that Ancelotti has undying faith in him and his ability. I have not seen one Milan game in the last 5 years where Pirlo was on the bench for any other reason other than injury or match fitness. He was played even when he played atrociously.

3) I have no proof that Pirlo has a big ego, but do you think he would accept sitting on the bench? He doesn't come across to me as the type of player who would do that. I am even willing to bet that if Leo benches Pirlo for half the season, he would ask for a transfer.

Selling Pirlo for 30m could make sense! I would miss the guy but since we've already been selling some of our best players (kaka-gourcuff) we could make it a real revolution by also selling pirlo. that amount of money for a 30yo is good business!! at least if we sign a young and good replacement. someone like hernanes for example.

We're talking here about 30m, but the rumours are suggesting that he'd leave for around 20.

It really does depend on the offer for Pirlo, if the right one came along then it makes sense.

Pirlo for Essien and then bid for Fabregas (given his recent comments)

Flamini - Fabregas - Essien

That's a pretty decent midfield to me.

20m isn't good enough IMHO, I'd rather keep Pirlo. Heck, Aly is ~15m and Dzenko is 30m+.

Probably a likely bluff, but a potential replacement Hernanes is supposedly 30m+ too. Gago would be cheaper but are any of these possible Pirlo replacements interested in Milan assuming they are affordable?

I realize Pirlo is nearing the wrong side of 30, but he's (again, IMHO) a world class player. 20m just doesn't cut it, even if he demands a transfer.

i love pirlo. the only way i would consider selling him is if we could for sure get Fabregas to replace him. thats the only way

It's 20 million pounds for Pirlo, not euros. And that would be a great price for a player who is past 30, hasn't really been his best for the past couple of years and is certainly on the downside of his career. I would hate to see Pirlo go, personally, because of what he has done for Milan, but it would be smart to sell him now and buy a good, young playmaker to take his place.

I would only sell Pirlo to Chelsea as long as they are taking Seedorf with them.

Thus if 20M Pounds for Pirlo and Seedorf, thats a great deal.

WTF are u talking about??
PIRLO IS GOING NOWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!He's still the best player in our squad.
If we sell him we will never find playmaker as good as Pirlo!!!

That makes no sense at all. Seedorf may not be a player still capable of being brilliant in every game and playing every game, but as a situational player he can still be extremely valuable. Why would you want to give him away?

Even if we keep Pirlo, we'll not have a playmaker as good as Pirlo because Pirlo is no longer as good as Pirlo. We have to face the fact that he hasn't been quite as good the past couple of seasons and he's on the downside of his career.

Maybe these last 2 years he's form went down , but I'm sure and I believe in him that he will be back.
