What do you think it would be if Milan just hurried to buy whatever player is available at whatever price they have to pay? Where I come from, that's called a panic buy. I would be much happier if Milan took the time to identify the players they really want and then negotiate for the best price possible to purchase them. You want Milan to hurry up and get it over with just to sooth your own fears.
Thats why Milan is still taking their time to find a striker who can replace Sheva?
And I am sure they will only need another year or so to find someone who can replace Kaka and Maldini.

Well, compare to we rule the transfer market, that quote about Crespo and Cruz is nothing.

I really like what Leo said about mentality of the game. But the fact is, I really don't think guys like Seedorf, Kaladze, Ambro and even Pirlo have them in them anymore. I think it has more to do with physically then mentally.

One last thing, those who still hope Milan will sign someone like Rick, I think as of now, the chances of someone leaving is actually higher than someone arriving.

July 2000 archive:

Highlights:

July 4 -- Milan begin training

July 5 -- Milan negotiating with Parma for Thuram. Possible swap of Bierhoff for Crespo. Milan wants Rivaldo.

July 6 -- Exploratory talks with Real Madrid over Morientes. Possible 3-way deal: Bierhoff to Parma, Crespo to Juve, Pippo to Milan.

July 7 -- Milan deny Weah and Coco are bound for Monaco. Berlusconi's big signing could be Fiore of Udinese. Milan have acquired promising 18 year old Massimiliano Donati from Atalanta.

July 8 -- Milan are still hunting down the star player club president Berlusconi promised. The choice now has fallen on three players, Rivaldo, Beckham and Thuram.

July 19 -- Adriano Galliani is in Spain on a mission. To lure a top player in Milan's way. Papers are talking about Gerard who will then be moved to Barcellona for Rivaldo. Other targets are Mendieta, again of Valencia with the possibility of an exchange deal for the unsettled Ayala.

July 25 -- Milan and Real Madrid have agreed on all the terms necessary to bring Fernando Redondo to Milan. Now only the players' "yes" is necessary.

July 26 -- Weah had finally closed the door on Milan. Galliani commented that this is a sad day for the club. George Weah will now move to any club he chooses. Roma, Bologna and Monaco are the clubs willing to get him. Weah asked for a guaranteed place in the squad, something Milan cannot give to anyone.

Redondo / Gerard saga goes on.....
After agreeing terms with Real Madrid, it now seems that manager Del Bosque has stated that he needs Redondo. The final decision is now up to the player who seems very unsure. Gerard's decision is also on hold. The player wants Milan but his parents have been quoted as saying that they want him to remain in Spain, preferably with Barcellona. Could this mean Milan are closer to Rivaldo ???

July 27 -- Fernando Redondo could have already signed for Milan. The management of both teams are meeting in a secret location in Switzerland. Both clubs have closed the deal and only the final touches remain.

July 31 -- Barcellona as expected produced an amzing package for Brazilian star Rivaldo and it has been confirmed by Galliani that the player will stay at Barca for the next few seasons. Milan have now officially pulled out of the deal.

Okay, then.....

Does none of this sound a bit familiar to you? Every transfer window is crazy, slow and frustrating. Nothing has changed. And sometimes even the best players are purchased at the very last minute -- and sometimes negotiations are very difficult!

From Aug. 31, 2002:

So relax folks. Pop a valium. Have a beer. Take a few tokes. Whatever you do to relax. It's the same old summer show. We don't know what surprises are in store. All we can do is wait.

With all due respect, you cannot quote something from 9 years ago to justify the actions of this current management. If anything, try looking up the archives from the summer of 2006, 2007, 2008 and see if the management is actually just hiding their real big money targets. A lot of things have changed since 2000, Milan is selling its best players for cash, something that was unthinkable back then.

Why are we trying so hard to sell Pirlo? He probably is the only one in the team who can make the entire team tick. I don't get it really....... Pirlo is saying that he wants to stay everyday and Galliani says Pirlo is 99% milanista...but if an offer arrives.......we'll see..... how do you expect Pirlo feels everytime they say that?

That's exactly how they pushed out Kaka. Can't believe so many here think Kaka went away for the money.

How long did it take to grab Pato? I think he's a good replacement.

I just found this, while trying to find a video of Thiago Silva:

AC Milan deny Thiago link

AC Milan have denied information regarding their moves to sign Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

After a disappointing beginning of the season, that has left the team with zero points out of the six that have been played, rumours appeared suggesting that both AC Milan and Inter Milan in the middle of a battle to bring Thiago Silva to Serie A during the January transfer window.

But Milan have denied the speculation saying that there is no room for the Fluminense defender in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

“In some newspapers today they tried to make Milan look like they are in competition with another club for the purchase of Brazilian player Thiago Silva,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“In reality, there wasn’t and there will not be competition, because Milan, having already registered two foreigners for this season, is not amongst the clubs who can register Thiago Silva.”

In the meanwhile, the brazilian player admits he is happy to stay with Fluminense , however reports in Brazil say that his agent is travelling to Italy to discuss a possible move.

Thiago Silva told the Brazilian media: “I could have left Fluminense, but I want to do what I have promised to the supporters and I am going to stay at least until the end of the year.”

Just to bring some things into perspective.

Only in football can fans expect to spend 20-50 million per season to stay competitive.

Not in American football, not basketball, not hockey, not baseball(save for the yankees) do teams spend that much money on new players PER SEASON(and all those teams own their own stadiums). IT IS ASININE FOR ANYONE TO EXPECT A CLUB TO PAY THAT MUCH OUT !

Picture this, Milan has ignored finances for years and needed a sale like Sheva in 2006 and KAka in 2009 to help balance the books. Money doesn't grow on tree's, you have to pay your own people and services some how ! The company must pay for itself, thru sales and advertising, but when it doesn't, stupid fans expect the owner who isn't seeing true profit from his investment, to go into his pockets and shell out money he has worked for. F*** off some of you ignorant fans.

You know absolutely NOTHING about soccer clubs in Europe. To compare Serie A with American sports leagues is flat out stupid. In America, leagues have established an infrastructure that would be mutually beneficial to everyone involved, owners and players. That is why they have such things as maximum contracts, collective bargaining agreements, salary caps, drafts, guaranteed/nonguaranteed contracts and trades. Do you see ANY of these things I have mentioned in Europe? The different infrastructure of the European soccer leagues makes it impossible for teams to be ran the American style. None of the European leagues have been able to form that kind of infrastructure on the account that the differences between clubs are too huge to overcome.

In this world, you have to live within the environment you are in. If you live in a house full of crazy people, being the only sane one in the house will only make your life miserable. Sure, it would probably be wise from a financial point of view for Milan to be run the American way, but doing that will lead to the demise of the team. European powerhouse soccer clubs HAVE to spend 40 mil or so a year to remain competitive, that is just the reality of the situation. If Milan deems itself too good and too smart for that, then they will only see their performance deteriorate and end up falling in standings to its appropriate level, as is demonstrated by this team the last couple of years.

Oh...so, based on this analogy.....Pato is most definitely gone (because Galliani said he is not for sale)....and...hmmm.....our new attacker is Crouch?

In NBA, there is a limit of 500k$ in a transfer (which may buy you Favalli from Milan)

And it took about 16 months, after trying to find cheap replacements in RO and R99.
