That's it......it's just like Cissokho case, some people start believing that this is the next big thing.
It's alright being optimistic, but, Mancini, Fabregas, Eto'o, Ribery(I wouldn't buy him), Santacroce and some other good players are out in the market and we sign....."Ogbeche", and people are happy with it.
Don't get me wrong, but he is a complete mystery.

Go out and get some real deal.

If you ask me, this is Galliani being smart. I'll tell you why. Americans pour money into anything, there is a reason why America is the world's strongest economy, they just buy anything. One of the smartest things Fulham did was to buy a core of American players, did you notice that after they did, Nike became their kit provider?

That was because American players bring in lots of money and attention. I hope that Onyewu will just be another backup CB like Senderos, but I think it's really something to just make sure that Milan can now start taking portions of that American market, because the Prem is all ready popular with Americans (who love kick-and-run football) but that their players are there, makes it even more solid.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I think that's at least a big part of why Milan got him.

welcome to serie a brother glad to have you THE YANKS ARE COMING!
If you watch his videos, the man is not unacustomed to big crowds! Some of those stadiums he has played in through international competitions are massive. Also, it is a shame he had no UEFA CHAMPION experience.

I saw him past august with Standard against Liverpool at Anfield.
He played in the middle of the defence with Sarr (here is the reason why I watched that game, do you remember him?) and I have to say he played good on Torres, just like he repeated during Spain Usa in the ConfCup.
Probably he is not Maldini, but I see a player with hunger to succeed.
not so bad.
The real question is : how is Nesta's health now? because you know past summer what happened when Senderos arrived.
Nesta did stay out for all the season.

Personally, Landon Donavon for those American Milan fans looks good. he challenged Mexico and the Italian side. Not saying we should get him, but he is the best American player.....

Get used to it guys, this is the future for Milan. The only reason we were able to bounce back from our last dark age under Berlusconi was that Seria A was still the best league in the world. Now Seria A is the 4th best and all the success we haev enjoyed ahs been great. But that is it. good luck to Juve and Inter (Maybe not Inter).

Your post made me thinking.......

I remember when Man City offered to buy Buffon and then Buffon himself said that it would be wise to sell him because with that money, you could make a brand new stadium.
If I were Juve's boss, I'd sell Buffon, get tons of money for it and then you're really ruling the transfer market

we have a good squad which can withn no problem compete for the 1.st place in serie a,but we will be an easy pray for such clubs like real, barca, man utd... if we want to make something in champions league we need to strenghten our squad a bit

You repeatedly make this mistake; A full back is a player that plays on the wing, Zambrotta, Jankulovski, Oddo, etc. A center back plays in the center. Gooch is a center back.

I think this is a great signing. We have nothing to lose, in my opinion. He's not a starter. There were times in the past two seasons when an emergency got us contemplating Ambro as a central defender. This is a squad player and he would never have joined had he not been free. Great signing.

We still need a LB and a CF, and a replacement for Pirlo should he leave.

Bet you were hoping for Rossi, though, weren't you?

Well, just a few thoughts on the signing of Gooch:

He's better than a lot of you think. As Axelmett said, he's big, strong and dangerous in the air. He's not only capable of scoring on free kicks and corners, but he's great at defending free kicks and corners. He's been improving by leaps and bounds over the past couple of seasons.

That said, I don't see him as a player who is likely to just jump right into a regular starting role. He'll be a good situational player and will add depth to the central defense. I see him starting a decent number of games depending on the matchups. He still hasn't perfected his technique and he has been mistake prone in the past (although he's cut down on his mistakes dramatically). I think he can learn a lot from guys like Nesta and Maldini (who should be around in some capacity to help) and has a chance to develop into something special. He'll work hard to do that and his fitness level will always be a plus.

I know a lot of you think Milan just signed him because he was free and they don't want to spend money. But there's nothing wrong with getting players for free. Some of the best players in the world have moved on free transfers. And if Alex Ferguson can do it with Michael Owen, what's wrong with Milan finding what could be a diamond in the rough on a free transfer? It leaves more money to go after the Fabianos and Huntelaars.

And just for your reading pleasure, here's what former Serie A defender and U.S. national Alexi Lalas had to say about Gooch signing with Milan:

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Alexi Lalas: “A Brilliant Move” By Milan And Onyewu
The former U.S. international and Serie A defender is full of praise for Oguchi Onyewu's transfer to AC Milan.
Jul 7, 2009 7:33:15 AM

When the news of Oguchi Onyewu’s signing with Italian giants AC Milan broke, former US star Alexi Lalas smiled. The only American international to play in Serie A in the modern era, Lalas was pleased to see another compatriot finally get a chance in Italy’s top league and believes the Rossoneri’s decision to sign Onyewu was very intelligent.

“I think it’s incredibly smart move by AC Milan,” Lalas told Goal.com. “Defense has obviously been a weakness for Milan and from an economic standpoint it was also obvious that they weren’t going to spend lavishly. So they had to be smart with their money. Onyewu isn’t a big name player, he’s relatively young, he’s inexpensive and as far as I’m concerned he’s as good a centerback as what they already have.”

“Gooch,” as Onyewu is nicknamed, arrives in Milan on a free transfer from Belgian side Standard Liege. The 6’4” centerback was a big part of the back-to-back championships won by Les Rouches and the side’s run to the knockout stage of last season’s UEFA Cup. These experiences have been vital to his progress, Lalas says, and were definitely a factor in the signing.

“Regardless of the fact that he’s American, he has proven himself in Europe, albeit at a smaller league,” Lalas said. “Milan have been able to track him and see him play.”

Lalas, who played for Calcio Padova in Serie A from 1994-96, has no advice for Onyewu except to “learn Italian as quickly as possible.” The pressure, Lalas says, will not come from the jersey Onyewu is wearing but the passport he holds.

“Obviously playing at one of the world’s biggest clubs there will be pressure,” Lalas said. “But on the other hand, you’re also playing with very good players. The pressure will be more because he’s an American than the fact that he’s playing at AC Milan.”

But Lalas believes Onyewu has the tools to overcome any of the pressures and succeed in Italy’s top league.

“Most Italian clubs have at least one big forward, an Ibrahimovic, a Iaquinta, or whoever, and I think he’ll match up very well against those big forwards that a lot of these teams have,” Lalas said. “As a matter of fact, I think he’ll gobble them up.”

So sorry for that error (honestly, I got mixed up, but I diffiently know the difference)

Defense as Swordfish has been saying along with me is no.1 priority. The major hole in our system has been defense for the last two seasons. Give me one Centre Back (quality and proven on the European stage) and I will be more than happy.

Got a feeling that milan fans will be openly angry and MGT will loan this player out.

I think everyone needs to remember this: He was free!! Not only was he free, but he is a MUCH better backup than Kaladze!!

I would also advise everyone, NEVER LISTEN TO LALAS, he has no idea what he is talking about.
