Well, that's not something I'm sure he ever had. But the media tends to notice more when someone is a Head of State and we tend to notice more when the owner's club hasn't won a trophy in a couple of years.

And still we criticize him? If I'm able to pick up young beautiful chicks when I'm 72 I'll probably spend more time and money doing that than on football... Can you blame him?

Let's hope he finishes it in time to make a couple of transfers before the end of August though... Still calm and collected.

In other news Galliani has said there are no negotiations underway for Vucinic, and that he doesn't want to talk about the market. (milannews, goal).

Hopefully, his coyness means there is work going on in the background.

I still think the real target is Dzeko. I think the original plan was to secure Cissokho and Dzeko as quickly as possible to pacify fans angry at Kaka's departure.

I think that's probably true. And now Uncle Fester & Co. are kind of between a rock and a hard place. They know they can get Dzeko next summer for the price they planned to pay all along and he remains the primary objective. But because fans are b1tching and complaining and too impatient to wait until next summer, they want to sign some striker with a fairly big name to pacify them. But they don't want to overpay because they plan on buying Dzeko next summer. So it's kind of a Catch 22 situation and that's what's made the negotiations over Fabiano so difficult. If he were really Milan's first choice, they would have gone up a bit and come to an agreement.

I'm glad Andre Santos went to Fenerbahce, I never was that convinced with the guy and I would have been rather angry if the club actually bought him.

I too have this feeling that Dzeko is still the primary target, and I think Milan is trying to gauge how Borriello is doing in pre-season, which seems to be not as great as many hoped.

Perhaps this is the calm before the storm? I think the major issue in our transfer strategy has been our use of the non-EU spot we have left. I wish we had just gotten another play in that non-EU spot so that our strategy could be more focused.

Watching our pre-season games, it seems that Pirlo really is missed. I don't think Ronaldinho should be having to come so far back to get the ball. I'm also not sure if selling Pirlo is really necessary in order to get Hernanes, with a price as low as is being touted, I'm sure we could easily keep both.

I'm also not sure why the Galaxy game is being used as evidence of Milan's downfall. Inter tied 2-2 with an American college team, so I always question the level of players during these kinds of games. I just can't help but think how different Milan would play with Zambro, Pato, and Pirlo in the line-up.

It also seems that Antonini does not play that well on the left side, so perhaps it will be Antonini right, Zambro left?

hernandes should be bought and pirlo kept. i am willing to wait for dzeko but i would be perfectly happy with huntlaar

Milan fans have had to look on enviously as Juventus and Inter splash the cash this summer. The Bianconeri have conducted a truly outstanding campaign thus far, signing Brazilians Felipe Melo and Diego, as well as Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro. Inter, meanwhile, have strengthened by snapping up Genoa star duo Diego Milito and Thiago Motta, as well as Bayern Munich's Lucio.

The Rossoneri, though, have made just one purchase – 27-year-old United States defender Oguchi Onyewu on a free transfer from Standard Liege. The signing of Porto left back Aly Cissokho fell through in mysterious circumstances, with many arguing that Milan invented a problem with the Frenchman’s teeth in order to try and lower the transfer fee.

Speculation has been widespread that Milan are in serious debt, and that it is unlikely that much of the €68m received from Real Madrid for Kaka will be spent on new players. Fans are becoming restless, with riots in the fashion capital, and Milan's chances of success this season look slim at this current moment.

Goal.com Italia editors Fabrizio Ponciroli and Sergio Stanco, who are both close to the situation at Milan, can exclusively reveal what is really going on. And it is depressing reading…

“Milan have no money,” asserted Ponciroli.

“They sold Kakà because they needed money and they have no money to invest.

“Unfortunately, Milan will be just a ‘normal’ club for the next one or two seasons. President Silvio Berlusconi has a lot of problems in Italy and he can't help Milan, as he has done in the past.

“I don’t think Milan will qualify for the Champions League this year.”

Stanco is also less than optimistic over Milan’s short-term future.

“One of the most important problems at Milan is not that Berlusconi doesn’t have money, but that he won’t spend it,” he explained.

“The economic crisis that we are experiencing is hurting everybody, and the head of the Italian government, who has a public position, must be an example to his country.

“Moreover, he has many companies. How can he say to people: ‘sorry we have to fire you in order to spend millions of euros on players for Milan’?

“Even Berlusconi’s children won’t allow him to spend money on Milan, and they are always telling him to sell the club.”

So, if Berlusconi has no intention of spending any more money, thus ensuring that Milan have no chance of challenging for major honours, why will he not entertain the idea of selling the club?

“Berlusconi loves Milan, it is his creature,” Ponciroli stressed.

“In Italy he is best known as President of Milan. He will never sell Milan.”

This is a view echoed by Stanco, who added: “Milan is Berlusconi’s toy.”

“Even if he did want to sell, no one would want to buy an Italian team in the current climate. There are too many problems, and too few profits.

“If a rich Sheikh came to Italy to try and buy a club, it is hard to see everyone allowing it to happen for obvious reasons. Once one club is sold, then all the others will have to sell too in order to close the gap.”

So how much money, if any, will Milan actually spend this summer?

“A maximum of €12-15 million,” believes Ponciroli.

“Only Luis Fabiano can arrive, and I believe that Andrea Pirlo will also be sold to Chelsea.”

Stanco has offered Milan fans slightly more hope, but only slightly. “It's really difficult to forecast who Milan will buy because it's Berlusconi's toy,” he continues.

“He always says he will buy nobody (pressed by his family) but at the end (as occurred with Alessandro Nesta and Ronaldinho) he treats himself to a gift.

“Having said this, I think this summer it will be very difficult to spend much. If they sell Pirlo, which I believe they will, it is possible they could then go and invest €30m in the market.

“They will only buy a forward like Luis Fabiano, and a cheaper, younger Pirlo replacement, like Hernanes or Cristian Ledesma, who will become a backup for Clarence Seedorf. If there is still money, maybe a left back can arrive."

With Milan falling significantly behind Inter and Juventus, the likes of Napoli, Genoa and Palermo conducting excellent transfer campaigns, Fiorentina still competitive, and Roma ready to bounce back, the Rossoneri could be facing the very real prospect of not only another trophyless campaign, but a failure to make the Top 4 in Serie A too.

Hasan, a group of my friends also sent me this article, and wanted my feedback...and the sentiments of the fans re our Mercato, post-Kaka.

Everyone knows my position, and for those that don't:

Well...its tough times for Milan, and with the probs that Berlu is having, politically and personally, he just cannot be seen to be investing millions of £s into his club...

I personally think we have to take the good with the bad...when Berlu was acting like Abramovitch and Peres are now, not one Milan fan was complaining....now, he cant/wont spend, and many of these same fans, are now "embarassed" at our low bid's for players, in a market overinflated by the sale of one of our key players...

Why be embarassed when we try to low-ball clubs, when u weren't embarassed when we were high-balling clubs, by making them and their players "obscene" bids of ridiculous amounts of money?

There must be a time for austerity, and what better time? If u can get a player for the lowest possible price, why pay more? For what reason? To give the impression that ur "ballin"? How mature and sensible is that?

So this summer we scrimp...we tighten belts, in an iflated market, it wil limit options, but reduce the risk of overspending.

That's just my opinion though...I could care less if people think Berlu is past it, a thief, a letch, a "whatever"...as long as he continues to bankroll the club, I'm good, and if he stops! So what? I will still support the club.

However, that said, Berlu will, in short order, do something to deflect attention from his other "summer purchases" which he seems to be scrimping on just as he is in the "mercato"...the "envelope" I'm sure was her "tip" well....one thing is a constant it seems...in a recession, tips decrease as well!!

the thing that upstet me most(besides the obVious,like our transfer campaign) was that on the one hand he justified berlusconi by saying things like,milan had depts and he is being the prime minister he has to give the right example(which btw means that we're once more a tool for his political success),and on the other hand he critisised him by saying milan is a toy for him and he always treats himself a gift(discusting)...

okay if being the prime minister means that he has to give examples like not investing on his team(!!),its simple HE SHOULD SELL A.C.MILAN..he has more serious priorites,and if milan is a toy,then we are toys too..which is vomit
