In the wake of coach Walter Zenga’s brave declarations that Palermo will be pushing champions Inter for next season’s scudetto honours, the clubs' fiery president Maurizio Zamparini has heaped some praise on the Rosanero’s closest rivals, as he outlined his predictions for the coming season.

Asked by FirenzeViola.it whether he was really convinced if a team from outside the so called ‘big three’ could push for the scudetto, Zamparini responded by saying, “Of course I am."

“It gives me great satisfaction that [Walter] Zenga is also declaring his ambition in such ways. Even the likes of Udinese, Genoa and Fiorentina will be pushing for the scudetto this year," he added.

"It’s about time we stopped accepting our roles as sparring partners for the big three.

“Ultimately the big clubs aren’t as big as they once were,” he concluded.

Stefano Federici, Goal.com

i agree. Better for the league, but weakens us in the Champions League with the good players spread around many teams. Ultimately that is where Serie A is judged.....
In the coefficient ranking the calculation is based on the Champions League AND the Europa cup.

So, either way it's good for the league.

According to Pato himself, he is not a CF...:

Your point is good, brk...but I believe more in quality. In the past we broke those 9 man defenses without this big target. I still believe in a Barça aproach of the game. You put quality(pass, pace, pression) on midfield and offense, and there´s no way a team can cope with that...unless they have talent in the back like Chelsea.

The problem is that Pirlo and Seedorf aren´t the same...in the few games of the season that they play in a high level, we have no problem to score. It was our defense that cust us the games...

Hm, maybe you're right. But still, I don't think we can sustain that high tempo stuff all season long. When we go through that inevitable slump, i'd rather have a tank up front that can do the dirty work even if the rest of the team is sleeping; basically I want an Ibra that can do the same work he did for Inter and Juve.

I suppose he knows best. I guess it would be wise to play him further back, so he can be involved more in the buildup of the game. That way with him and Ronaldinho (who hopefully will up his game) can serve quality balls to our forwards who cannot create anything for themselves. It sure would be nice to get a forward who can do some work himself, but at this moment we are most likely going to go with Trezegol, so our midfield will have to be very creative and dynamic.

He is not a Milan-level player.

Serie A games/goals: 131/31
35/19 are from his season at Genoa.

Then why use the "Summer mercato 2009"-thread at all?

Hey, y'all, try to use this thread for what it is intended: transfer news, speculation, rumours etc. There are game threads for match information and impressions.
I know our mercato has been less than eventful up till now (but anything could happen tommorow or not), but try to keep the threads to the subjects at hand, OK?
Thanks.

As for our hunt for a powerful targetman CF, I think it might be wasted. We are all bashing Inter for lacking creativity in their midfield, but ours does too. We wouldn't serve up enough balls to our CF. Sure, if we had Ibrahimovic as a targetman, then he could handle the situation himself.. but most targetmen are just big and powerful, but lack quality feet.

We only have one forward (apart from Dinho, who plays slightly further back) who can handle the ball well and create his own chances: Alexandre Pato. Huntelaar and Trezeguet (who according to his agent would like to join us) cannot create jack sh1t for themselves. At this point I'd rather have a technical seconda punta or trequartista, like maybe Cassano or Lavezzi... but they are above our spending budget...
Mate, Pato said himself recently that his strength is not there to be a CF.....

I reckon Boriello can get 10 goals in all competitions max for Milan.... You don't want Pato left to do all the work up foward when Inzaghi is not around..... For me, Borri had a great time at Genoa, got injured last year, and has started off badly in the friendlies. Based on that, we may be coming to a far too hasty conclusion. the man is a late bloomer..... Let's just wait and see.

EITHER WAY, no foward is coming. they are just too expensive for MGT, and CFs cost evern more......
I would concentrate on a full-back. As well as this, the GK situation IMO is being taken for granted!

Report: Tottenham Hotspur Ready To Make Real Madrid's Huntelaar Their Highest Earner
If Huntelaar goes to White Hart Lane, he will be made the biggest earner in the history of the club...

Harry Redknapp is set to tempt Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with the prospect of being the top earner in Tottenham's history in a bid to bring him to White Hart Lane.

Spurs have been chasing Huntelaar all summer, and are believed to have already agreed a €20million deal.

Now, according to the News of the World, Redknapp is set to travel to Amsterdam to meet Huntelaar's representatives, and present a contract offer worth a whopping €104,000 a week. Ledley King is currently Spurs' top earner, on €86,000 per week.

Huntelaar currently earns €63,000 a week at Real Madrid.

Arjun Miglani, Goal.com

I am not trying to be an ass hole, but it puzzles me how the Hotspurs, who haven't been that flash recently, can afford Hunter, when Milan who just qualified for Champions League as well as receiving around 80 million are scared away at first sight! how much did they expect Madrid was to ask for him? 10 million?! IF Galliani was so good, Hunter should have been included with the Kaka deal! Problems Solved!
