We don't need 2 players who's primary role is defensive. IMO Flamini can cover most of the leg work in mid, Pirlo normally doesn't move forward much, whilst we have 2CD, and possibly another wb who won't move forward much, so we can have 5 players in off positions, 3 as a cover, and 2 cd also.
The real system failings will be mental, not physical.

I think the reason we messed up in the last two years was because of Carlo's ugly and negative tactics to play 2 DM beside Pirlo. I think we should have a midfield of Seedorf - Pirlo - Flam/Max/Rino. We should never play two DM's again, we should have learnt our lesson from last year. Zero creativity, ugly football, play on the counter, lose the game against mediocre sides and even lose against them sometimes.
We must play with an all-round midfielder (Seedorf, VdV) along Pirlo and one DM. IMO, the best player for that position is Flamini but Leonardo would not be able to bench captain Ambro and co-captain Gattuso so I'm worried he might revert to the 2-DM system. I really wish we'd play a 3-2-3-2 sometimes, something like this: ---------- SILVA ------------ NESTA --------- ZAMBRO ------------ ------------------ FLAMINI ----------- GATTUSO ------------------- SEEDORF ------------------ PIRLO ------------ RONALDINHO(VdV?) --------------- HUNTELAAR ---------- PATO ------------------------ We could also have Abate and Janku in this formation, but I think this is a good formation as we have 2 players that run so much right infront of the defence. I also know that Zambrotta can play very good as a CB and if he ever felt the need to attack through the wing, one of the DM's could drop back and one of the midfielders could drop back too. Zambrotta could also play in any of the midfield positions. Also we could have R80 playing in the middle and Pirlo on the left as we've seen him play very well there last season. |

TO be honest and I had been stating this for a long time, both Gattuso and Pirlo are too one dimensional for the modern game and Seedorf is just too slow.
I really would not mind playing with a 2 DM formations as long as those two DM can also contribute to the offense and moves up and down the pitch. Flamini to me is not a pure DM, he is more of a two way midfielder. Milan needs more midfielder like Flamini. |

Yes, it is crazy to play both Flamini and Gatusso/Ambro. TO me, Flamini has more leg speed, and has goal shoting ability and creativity to add to his good tackling and marking skills. However with Pirlo/ DIhno/ Flamini not known for their general speed, I think it is crucial to play soemone out wide with speed like Abate..... VDV would be hard to get, but of course a better option. Expect him to come for Hunterlaar's price or more, but don't count Abate out either.....

DiGenarro has hardly been given a chance! His unapparent goal scoring ability with Reginna suggests he would struggle to fill Dihno's shoes, so I haven't quite worked out where he plays yet.....

but i totally agree with the ugly football milan had been approaching. we need to play 4 1 2 1 1 1 i read some dude was writing about employing 2 defensive midfielders for midfield battle or some stuff like that. well if you have in your midfield more than 1 player who can hold the ball then you are gonna win the battle. because when you have defensive midfielders, offensively they have nothing to do but they have to do defensively. what the hell is pass the ball to pirlo or kaka or ronnie stand for ? heck he is a midfielder he should have some creativity to do something you just need one tough guy for to double with your defender not to protect pirlo, when you usually lose the ball you run to get it back. i truly think we need to dump the defensive side from our midfield. 1 is more than enough when you have 4 players in your team who can hold up the ball (pirlo, new midfielder, ronnie and pato)it means you have more chances to create spaces for the flanks you have more potential to be a real threat, since you have just signed a classic #9 you need supply to the penalty box. if the mgmt wants leo to do well they must give him a classic central midfielder, someone with vision and creativity and able to run and follow up. (vdv, sneijder, hernanez, inler) and above all that we need a World class Left back if this doesnot happen we will as boring as carletto's side. latest news milan are linked with felipe and inler from udinese for 35 mil i suspect this is true and i hope its true.

IMO, Pirlo necessitates playing two DM's. Or atleast an allround midfielder like Seedorf in his prime - in fact, back in 2003-2005 when we played the diamond formation he was a vital asset.

There's no way in which Flamini - Pirlo - VDV midfield would work! VDV is an attacking midfielder or supporting striker and he's not active defensively at all. It would be like if you put Kaka into that slot.
Furthermore, where's the power in that midfield? For God sake, if we would play against Inter with that midfield they'd tore us apart. We need a player with BALLS and without either Gattuso or Ambrosini on a long term it doesn't work. Flamini is good, but he's kinda weak for a DM. The best midfield for us is our classic Gattuso - Pirlo - Seedorf. With Gattuso and Seedorf there's a lot of power in midfield and Gattuso adds a little of speed which Pirlo or Seedorf doesn't provide. Seedorf is also tactically fantastic player and he'll do whatever Leonardo tell him to do. He proved against Chelsea that he (still) can defend. Seedorf's inclusion in the first 11 solves our other problem, too. Because Pirlo is too deep, Ronaldinho is on his own in attacking third and that's not working as we witnessed against Inter. With Seedorf, Ronaldinho would get a lot of support. If Leonardo wants to play that way, he will need a player who can cover Seedorf or Ronaldinho when they get tired. Hernanes is pefect for that job. He can play as a classic midfielder or as an attacking one. Last edited by Revolver; 10-08-2009 at 05:29. |

Gattuso Flamini Pirlo Pato Ronaldinho Huntelaar Formation we would be much more creative than Inter and Juve, both of them expected to end up before us. We are talking often about more creativity only to make up for us missing someone up there who can score against all these tight teams. A Vieri kind of player.

I was reading all of your posts on this page and my hands were ready to react because the fact that some are saying that playing with two DM's cant work is really not true.
What was the reason that it didnt work the last seasons, that we looked so predictable, not good in attack and one-dimensional?Its because of Carlo, simple. He played like this: -----Pirlo----- Rhino-----Ambro OF COURSE ITS A FAILURE THEN IF YOU SET IT UP LIKE THIS! The problem was that Pirlo was way too deep lying in midfield so nobody could contribute to our attack from midfield, except some long balls from Pirlo.Rhino and Ambro cant do the creative work and Pirlo could have done it but Carletto wanted him infront of defence so Pirlo couldnt help our attack. When we were 1-0 behind and Pirlo moved forward you could see directly that we were much better and creating more chances. So the 2 DM's midfield system can work easy, but you have to play it like this: Rhino----Ambro -----Pirlo------ Pirlo in a free role so that he can guide the midfield and be the key between midfield and attack,he can help our attack more with his creativity, and Rhino and Ambro should be behind him to cover any mistakes. So thats how its done, the DM's should be behind Pirlo and Pirlo should have a free role like he has now in Italy. |

Guys, I deliver great news!!!:
Bayern Munich Open Talks With AC Milan For Kakha Kaladze - Reports The Georgian could be on his way to the Allianz Arena... 10 Aug 2009 10:57:17 Kakhaber Kaladze According to reports, Bayern Munich have opened negotiations with AC Milan over the potential transfer of Kakha Kaladze. The Bundesliga giants are searching for cover in the centre of the defence following Lucio's sale to Inter and Martin Demichelis' continuing struggles with a knee problem. Kaladze, according to Tuttosport, would be offloaded by the Rossoneri for a fee in the region of €4 million. Milan's vice-president and trransfer guru, Adriano Galliani, is reported to have welcomed Bayern's interest in the Georgian, who has slipped steadily down the pecking order at San Siro. Kaladze, who managed only 15 games in all competitions due to injury last season, is behind Alessandro Nesta, Thiago Silva and Oguchi Onyewu in the queue for a berth in the heart of Milan's defence. Goal.com Hell yes!
